Albion V Cables

Can’t make the game tonight so some updates would be much appreciated!

A well deserved 3-1 win against a thuggish Prescot team.
Stott won a pen which Kinsey despatched with aplomb.
Stott then won a one on one on their keeper to finish well but only after Macca had literally battled through the middle to fairly win the ball and set Ashley free.He also did well to escape the clutches of their centre back.
Macca got his usual goal with an excellent side foot volley after Botham scythed through the defence and powered an accurate cross.
How they finished with 11 men I’ll never know but at least the ref booked 7 or 8 of them.
4 wins on the bounce, well done everybody!

The server has been under attack from scum based in Russia and China today, and unfortunately the vermin managed to cause a database error which knocked out the site during the game.

Finished 3 - 1 to the Albion.

FULL TIME

Witton Albion 3-1 Prescot Cables

Andy Kinsey penalty
Ashley Stott
Dave MacPherson

Starting XI: M. Cooper; S. Moffat, B. Harrison, I. Kearney, M. Wood; D. Griggs, P. Heler, D. MacPherson, L. Pugh (C. Botham h/t); A. Kinsey (C. Frost), A. Stott.

Unused Substitutes: B. Pritchard, C. Millar, J. Hancock.

Witton got off to a shaky start, with Prescot taking the upper hand in the early stages. Witton then started to get more into the game, and on 27 minutes Witton took the lead. The ball ended up in the box, Stott chased it towards the byline, the 'keeper came out and Stott made the most of the contact. A definite penalty, which Kinsey calmly rolled into the bottom left corner after sending the 'keeper the wrong way.

Witton then continued to exert themselves on the game, whilst Prescot resorted to dirty tackles, ending the game with at least 7 yellow cards, and could have had at least one player sent off. Prescot however got the next goal, equalising not long before half time, after the ball found its way to the right midfielder who powerfully buried it beyond a despairing Matt Cooper.

New signing Calum Botham was handed his debut when he came on for Lee Pugh at half time. Witton extended their lead about half way through the second half when Ashley Stott muscled the Prescot centre back off the ball, before finishing into the bottom left corner when one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

Witton wrapped up the tree points when Calum Botham was found in space on the left, before playing a powerful ball across the six-yard box where an unmarked Dave MacPherson tapped into an open goal. A good win against a poor and dirty team, and Witton are up to second in the league.

Finished 3-1 to the Albion, a good three points and well deserved.

We did start a little slowly, something that we need to fix. Ashley Stott was brought down by the keeper and Kinsey sent the keeper the wrong way with a fine penalty into the bottom corner. We then upped our game and looked to be in control until the point that Prescot equalised on the stroke of halftime. Ben was possibly at fault for the goal in the build up, he waited for the ball to reach him and allowed their striker to set-up the move that ended in a goal. In fairness to the lad this was a minor error in another excellent performance and he will learn from it. He is definitely a talent.

1-1 at halftime was probably a fair reflection of the opening 45 minutes.

We started the second half stronger and it did feel like a matter of time before we scored another. The trio of Kinsey, Stott and Griggs are all playing well and a real threat going forward. Stott showed real strength to get in front of their defender to go through one on one against the keeper and find his spot perfectly into the bottom corner, a very well taken goal under pressure. Botham’s introduction on theleft side led to the third goal, a good run and excellent cross across the six yard line was volleyed in fiercely by Macca from close range.

The only surprise of the night was Prescot finishing with 11 men on the pitch, they must have had about 7 booked and at least two of their players were lucky to stay on the pitch. We were equally lucky to end the match without any serious injuries.

2nd in the table and only beaten once in 8 games, you have to say that we would have taken that return at the start of the season and there are some positive signs of progress.

FINAL SCORE:

Witton Albion 0 Prescot Cables 10

(that’s in bookings.)

I am not sure exactly how many they got booked, but it seemed like everybody but the keeper. A hefty fine will be on the way to them, and we should thank our lucky stars that half our team didn’t end up in hospital!

Thought we were in for our usual poor showing against Prescot tonight! In the first half, to call us lazy would be overstating it but we were certainly lackadaisical. Prescot closed us down quickly, were much faster than us and very direct. The equaliser was fully deserved on the balance of play.

Second half we were much better, more width and much more lively, and were well worth the points, although I never felt totally comfortable, even at 3 - 1.

Oh, and in case anyone reading the above posts hasn’t yet got it, Prescot were not a nice team!! They were very lucky to have a referee who took an exceeedingly leniant line with them. It is quite astonishing that they finished with eleven men on the field.

good result tonight and a good all round performance after a slow start. we have to be thankful that we finished the game without any apparent injuries due to prescotts gang of thugs, 8 players booked and how they finished the game with 11 players is beyond belief. prescott should not be allowed to get away with the tactics they employed tonight. the only consolation in that respect is that they got their just desserts. congratulations to the men in red for not reacting to their thuggery, certainly the makings of a very good team. come on the albion.

Another very important 3 points. Very poor 1st half from both teams, no real quality or composure (other than the penalty and their goal!)

2nd half all together different, we looked solid, attacked with pace and purpose and retained the ball well.

I actually thought the referee had a ‘strange’ game, agree with all the other posts re Prescot being lucky to end the game with 11. He and the linesmen were verbally abused twice by Prescot players and chose not to issue the mandatory red card.

However I thought he gave virtually all the marginal decisions to us and it looked like Prescot had a stonewall penalty decision turned down. As I say ‘strange’ and unusual that we had a referee that appeared to favour us for a change!

3-1 correct result - Up Th’Albs

Brilliant result was on tenterhooks with the site being down last night!! Didn’t know the result till I saw it in the paper this morning!!
