I did say a week or so ago that with the group of players that have been assembled there’s no reason why we couldn’t go to Altrincham and have a comfortable win. Well we won, it wasn’t particularly comfortable but what a spirited performance. I’ll bet the players slept last night? In my opinion, the difference was that on the day Altrincham had no real class and no one capable of splitting a defence with intellegence football. Yes, they ran the midfield for periods of the game and at times looked a bit better drilled and a touch more physical but Coops was never really called to make any Gordon Banks saves, whereas with Witton there seem to be a few players who are capable of making that killer pass and splitting defences (like it hurts me to say) Arsenal did a couple of seasons ago). Could we compete at Blue Square level week in week out? I’m not sure, but probably with a couple of additions. What do you guys think? So, on to the next round Nantwich maybe? Who did they beat? Fantastic support from the many Witton fans basking in the midday sun (attendance over 600) and supping copious amounts of fine Ale from Altis club. MoM thats a tough one. Titch or Clamps not sure. Boothie in contention? But I’m going for Mike Mossley simply for his after match celebrations!!! Well, off to Cyprus today for more midday sun. Over and out for 2 weeks! SBL
I think massive credit is due to Pritch and the coaching staff for the way we set up, playing Sheehan at full back worked a treat.
I thought after we scored we should have gone 4-5-1 but what do I know!
The team worked amazingly hard for each other, we were boiling just watching it so to do 90plus mins in that heat against a team 2 divisions higher than us was a massive testimony to their conditioning and training.
Referee did his best to assist the higher ranked team with every 50-50 going Altys way.
Respect to the Altys fans in the bar after the game and thanks to my old town for the hospitality throughout the day and night!
Congratulations on a very good performance yesterday. Alty deserved nothing. With the segregation issue I think common sense was used. Good luck in the next round. Witton deserve a bit more luck in the cup competitons. If Alty don’t arrange a league game in 2 weeks time and Witton are at home or nearby in the next round. I will probably come and watch the Witton. As always the day is better when the Vics get beat. Also many thanks to the Wittoners who helped increase our bar takings.
If anyone managed to get any photos that can be used in the programme for Wednesday can they send them to jamie.thompson4@talktalk.net by tonight please.
I would just like to pass on my congratulations to the team ,and management staff , the board in particular Mark and Graham who i had a lot of dealings with last year . and most of all hello to all the regulars who made the trip to Alty and according to their website made it a home game for us. fantastic support
Im so sorry I missed it but working in Netherlands at the mo ,and just have the odd visit to AZ Alkmaar .
I shall have to try and arrange weekend leave for next round .
Sensational team performance with many expected backs-to-the-wall moments. So what this is what happens with under-dog cup football.
Feel sorry for Ollie James.Substituted because of a woeful inept display by the referee. He had no common sense whatsoever,an alarming repeating theme we find when competing against higher ranking teams.
The two centre backs were awesome,Clampitt and Sheehan showed their experience. The list goes on.
