Pretty suprised at that, but at the same time he hasn’t been starting matches. Alex and Rob have looked impressive so far, and we also have Dillon. 4 into 2 doesn’t go, so i guess someone had to make way. It’s a shame as he never really got a chance to have a run in the team, but at the moment i can’t see where that opportunity would come from! He didn’t really have any impact at Kendal when he came on, although i thought he did well against Marine.
Good news about Thornley, he may be the forward player to complete the set.
If feels like May all over again!!!
Didn’t see that one coming! I guess someone has come in for Danylyk and made him a decent personal offer (might be Leek again if they have some fresh investment). I personally thought he would be a big player for us this year, the ability to come on in place of Lloyd or Brown would have given a bit of extra bite to midfield. Also he could have come on to replace Peers to give forward options down the left as an alternative. I would have liked him to have stayed however we can probably cope without him.
I’ve lost count of how many times Thornley has "signed" for us, I hope he does not get a signing bonus every time! Maybe he’ll play for us this time around as well as signing, at the moment the only physical activity at the club has been picking his pen up! We probably will not see him for a few weeks as he’ll be away on England duty, giving John Terry an after match rub down (or is that just a vicious rumour)!
;D
So is Thornley now officially an Albion player? As I saw the other day that he had signed dual registration forms with both Altrincham and Leek and will play for Leek when not selected for Alty.
He’s not a bad player though and could do a good job for us this season it’s a shame that Danalyk has left I thought that he did well when he came on as sub.
But I think we could have a replacement in Kearney who is the type of player who could play in any position with his strength and quickness. It looks like Jim isn’t resting on his lorrels though and is looking to strengthen.
Wincham Park is having more comings and goings than the Big Brother house! (not that i watch it of course
Good luck to all concerned!
Good Luck to Anthony but this shows that jim is always looking at his squad and trying to improve it.
I guess with Coo signing too and his flexibility to play in mid-field, with Royle and Brownhill we were again looking a little overloaded - we cant pay them all!
Shame to see him go though - looked impressive at Chorley too.
That’s the only one that i can’t get my head round. Oh well. Thornley will be a decent signing when he’s here
Players comings & goings (per JV):
It has been an eventful 36 hours and I have made a few decisions. I have asked Graham to put my thoughts on our forum so that you are updated as I’m sure a few are wondering what’s going on…
When certain opportunities occur, managers have two options - don’t do anything (possibly lose out on a quality player) or act swiftly (get them signed or someone else will). I have strengthened the team by signing Cavell Coo & Rod Thornley. Both are exceptional players who bring a wealth of ability, experience and talent to Witton Albion FC. Both signings are a clear indication of our ambition and I want to thank the Board for supporting me in obtaining these players’ services. They are fantastic signings and will compliment our team ethos and what we are trying to achieve at the Club. I am delighted to have players who should be playing in a higher standard playing for Witton; they have not joined for the money but for the experience of playing quality football in a quality team. Unfortunately, when you sign players of Cav & Rod’s abilities there are some consequences.
Players who are on the fringes get frustrated when they are not playing. Every player thinks they should be playing and, when they don’t, I have to manage the situation accordingly.
Dave Tickle asked to join us for pre-season and I signed him based on the experience that he has and that I felt he could contibute towards the team. That was relevant when he played against Marine and he did a good job. Dave asked earlier this week to be released as he wanted to play regular and that is something I could not guarantee. Carl Frost is a very good player but unfortunately due to niggling injuries he has not really showed what he is capable of. We saw glimpses last season and I truly hope Carl stays fit and plays to his potential. I guess the lure of playing each week was too much and an opportunity he could not turn down. Once again I do wish him well as he is a very nice lad who deserves some luck. The final playing leaving is Ant Danylyk. Ant has requested to be released as he has not been able to force his way into the starting line-up. My understanding is that all three have now signed for Leek Town.
I don’t usually come on to the site but I felt that a few words from me would answer a few questions that there may be.
Jim.
Well if Jim thinks that is what is right then i trust him to take us forward, afterall he is doing a fantastic job at Witton Albion FC.
You can’t argue with Jim’s decisions - the quality of football we play is outstanding at times. There are plenty of professional clubs that we would put to shame.
I can understand players being frustrated and in fairness Danylyk is a good and established player at this level and you can appreciate that he didn’t want to sit on the bench. He must of seen for himself that he would not be first name on the teamsheet ahead of Lloyd, Brown, Brodie, Peers, etc. I think he could have done a very good job for us this season, but I guess if you have been player of the year at Leek and they make a move to take you back then you can understand it. He will be a hero for them by returning.
As I said before I wish all the lads well, apart from when we take 6 points off them this season!
Thanks Jim. There is no doubting the class of the players that have arrived at the club, I was very pleasantly surprised by Cavell Coo’s arrival on Monday, and after the game the former Crewe lads were very excited about having him on board. It speaks volumes for the quality we have in the squad that we can afford to let players of the ability of Frost, Tickle and Danylyk leave.
Information direct from the manager is very much appreciated by the fans
Thanks Jim
The Renualt Garage?!
It’s good to have these decisions clarified. Now can someone tell me why Gary Finley left?!? I still haven’t recovered from that bombshell :o
When did he go?
You can’t afford to blink around this place in danger of missing something!
;D
