I’ll look forward to it Eli, you are one of the few that talks some truth and sense on here
C’mon guys there is no point having a go at each other, we need to stick together now more than ever. We will still be supporting the albion when players, managers etc have long gone. We are the best fans going and yes everyone has a right to there opinion. So lets stop havin a go ay and do what we do best support the albion.
Danny, the fact of the matter is that we had another manager from the division below us lined up to do the job, but as Nigel was first choice he was persuaded by all to take it. Ultimately it was his decision and he knows he made some bad decisions, for example thinking your mate Ross was up to the job and in the appointment of his number 2. Nigel is however a loyal and dedicated man who gave it 100%, he is a more established Wittoner than you and I. He let no one down and your lack of respect is staggering. (I don’t think you’ll find Eli’s opinion is much different than mine)!!!
I recall you were stood next to me this afternoon, so how an earth you can say Pritch’s mistake was met with ‘silence’! I certainly was shouting something unrepeatable regarding the error, and when it comes to talking to people’s faces I told Pritch a little more politely exactly what I thought of his second half performance. Of course I didn’t need to tell him, he already knew. Believe you me though, if half the players on that pitch played with the same passion and loyalty to the club as he does we would not be in this position.
They all needed a rollocking after today and I am certain they got it. However the reality is that the players are the only ones now that can get us out of the situation we are in and they need our support through to the end. If we do go down then so be it, as long as we roll our sleeves up and show some fight.
The only parade your raining on Danny is your own. You’re the one coming out with statements like ‘Pritch is past his best’ and deciding the best way to end a debate is to call someone ‘princess’. None of which is particulary helpful, supportive or respectful.
We all need to draw a line under today’s result and move on to next weekend, the lads need to draw on some confidence, difficult as that may be.
You can of course discuss this face to face with me Danny whenever you fancy.
I will, as I did also indeed miss whatever you apparantly shouted.
1 to 11 were poor second half today, Greg’s inexplicable mistake, after two ridiculous back passes gave the impetus to Ashton, and we never recovered from it.
Am I missing something or was it all down to our No.4 today ???
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ Change the record please - He got criticised from the same person when we kept a clean sheet on Friday!!!
As for the fourth goal - poor ball from Ashley and Pritchard got caught in two minds, hardly a decisive moment!
For what its worth I thought Pritchard played pretty well until you went behind, after that we over-ran you as collectively your heads seemed to go down - when the ball doesn’t stick upfront and by-passes the midfield it puts a lot of pressure on the back four, especially as we had the wind at our backs in the second half, and players put under that much pressure are bound to make mistakes. Harsh to blame Pritchard solely for the demise IMO, we had two strikers who both scored twice in the second half - he can’t mark everybody.
As one of the supporters sponsoring the game I can assure you Pritch was mentioned as a candidate at half time and had your right winger had any end product he would have been in with a shout too but Black ran his socks off upfront in a losing cause and deserved his award.
Rabbit you are spot on; if we had 2 or 3 more Brian Pritchards in the team then we would not be where we currently are in the table - and i also expect that we would have won the league last season. There may be more technically gifted footballers knocking about, but i’d rather have Pritch than somebody who doesn’t care about our football club.
I worry that too many of the current squad are just marking time until the summer. It doesn’t really worry them whether we go down or not as they don’t plan to be here next season anyway? I hope that i am wrong in having that concern.
The best way of putting the pritchard debate to bed is for Danny to point out where we can find a better more committed centre half than Brian Pritchard (taking into account that we’ve tried 5 or 6 already this season!!), but more importantly, one who is prepared to play for the same money that Pritch is currently taking out of the club…
You shouldn’t say things like that, you should tell him to his face…
Monday April 13th 2009 UniBond Premier Division
ASHTON UNITED 5 WITTON ALBION 1 att. 205
Team: Smith; Scott, Pritchard, Booth, Warner; Maylett, Dunn, Roddy (Lawless 66), Lugsden; Thompson (Moseley 77) & Black. Subs n/u Schwarz, Dunne & Speare.
For the third season in succession Witton will probably count the cost of their Easter Monday fixture. Failure to hold onto a two goal lead against Grantham and total capitulation against Fleetwood lost vital promotion points and a nightmare 20 minute period at Hurst Cross may well go a long way to sealing their fate this time around.
The afternoon’s events had not started too badly and the faithful yellow bedecked Wittoners present, accounting for at least 50% of the attendance, were in fairly buoyant mood. Albion very nearly took the lead in the 8th minute when an errantly aimed high ball from home defender Alex Frost went inches wide of his own post. Kieran Lugsden, in the 21st minute, cut in from the left flank before sending a low shot narrowly wide of the upright.
In the 27th minute Albion eventually got their deserved opener when a cross from Brad Maylett saw home skipper Craig Robinson’s upraised hand spotted by the linesman and MICHAEL RODDY stepped confidently up to strike the ball past terry Smith to open his Albion goal-scoring account. Controversially though referee Nick Greenhalgh, having booked Robinson for verbal dissent minutes before failed in his duty to show the defender a second yellow!
On the half-hour mark Gary Scott came to Albion’s rescue, as Ashton looked to be getting back on terms, when he produced a terrific headed clearance off the goal-line. Play quickly swung to the other end where Maylett again crossed with this time Mark Lees, more blatantly than the previous one, handling the ball, this time though the assistant kept his flag down!
Instead of being given the opportunity to go two goals up minutes later, it was all square. Greg Smith made a total hash of an over hurried clearance with the ball going straight to an opposing player, the keeper did manage to scurry back and parry the shot away but then inexplicably chased after the ball, that looked to being dealt with by Danny Warner anyway, and only succeeded in clumsily diving in and conceding a penalty that Iain Howard duly converted.
Nine minutes into the second period an Ashton free-kick was tapped to Gareth Richards who was given far too much space allowing him to turn easily and hit a low shot past Smith. The keeper was quickly forced into action again this time punching away a fiercely hit shot from Pat McFadden.
Witton at last got going in the half forcing a corner in the 63rd minute but with defenders caught out upfield the flag-kick was quickly cleared down the left flank and when the ball was swung over to the far post Ben Deegan was in unmarked to produce a diving header past the totally exposed Smith.
Six minutes later the home side went 4-1 in front when Brian Pritchard, who was probably having his worst game for years, got caught in possession and Richards was able to run on unchallenged to pick his spot past Smith.
Albion’s miserable 20 minutes was complete when another attacking move broke down, this time the ball played quickly down the right flank. Despite several chances to get the ball away as it bounced erratically between players in the area the culmination saw Deegan lash the ball into the far right side of the net.
Witton now with results going very much against them elsewhere now must bring all the points back against Worksop on Saturday if they are to give themselves a fighting chance of league survival.
