Atherton Collieries vs Witton Albion (FAC.Prelim )

Saturday sees Witton begin their Emirates FA Challenge Cup campaign, when they travel to Hallmark Security League side Atherton Collieries in the Preliminary Round. The fixture will be only the third meeting between the two clubs, all of them being in this competition. The previous two fixtures were both played at Wincham Park in season 2000/01 and again the following season with Witton coming out on top on both occasions. The first one being a narrow one goal margin but the second being more comfortable, as Albion registered four goals without reply. The fixture gives Witton the chance to build on their impressive start to the season whereas at the same time, allows lower ranked Atherton the chance to cause an upset which can always happen in cup competitions. Carl Macauley’s side will certainly not be taking their opponents lightly as they strive for success and a much-needed financial boost. Should the game be drawn, the replay is likely to take place at The NetDec Stadium on Tuesday evening with a 7.45 pm kick off with a home tie against Evo-Stik Premier Division Buxton awaiting the winners. Kick off at The Kensite Stadium is 3pm.

Will be a tough test this one, hope all the players are fit and up for it, maybe same team as per Kidsgrove win ? maybe Noone if fit in for Hickman or up front and Maxwell brought into the 11, looking forward to it always like the FA cup even if we rarely do well in it lol - UTA

yep agree with CJ - anything less than a whole-hearted approach will see us out . I think the squad will realise the financial importance to the club and be ready for this game. Fingers crossed we get through to face Buxton
