Basford United v. Witton Albion
Where’s his commitment?!.. Week in and week out since the start of the season. The lad is playing part time football with a full time job!! Give him a break for goodness sake
Spot on. Also our first goal scorer today was Willo’s replacement.

Please lads can you win the league as it will make a great end to the new history of the club and increase sales. All profit goes to the Albs so come on lads, all you have to do is keep winning, SIMPLES!!

Didn’t go today but what another great 3 points. Sounds like we deserved it. Brilliant stuff, well done all. UTA

Great win today, well done to players and management. This team just keep exceeding expectation, keep it going. UTA

3 hard games in a week and 9 points we cant ask for more let the run continue and see where the ride takes us .because at this rate it will be a shoot out between us and shaw lane for the title.UTA

Apologies for the lack of updates for the majority of yesterday’s game, no Internet connection in Leighton. Back in circulation now thankfully. Thank you to those who did manage to get information across. Made up with the result UTA.

From Basford United…

A game that had everything ended in disappointment for Basford today as United came up just short in defeat.

Some match photos from todays game https://www.flickr.com/photos/149923878@N08/albums/72157679690655415

Despite the perfect start as Kieran Wells kept up his rich goal scoring vein, Basford paid the price for conceding a pair of disappointing 1st half goals to trail at the interval. A rip roaring 2nd half though saw Basford do everything but score, as the Visitors were given a severe examination of title credentials but came through to clinch a massive win. Basford though can take great heart as we had arguably one of the best side in Evo-Stik on the ropes for most of the 2nd period as the visitors goal led a charmed life.
Kieran Wells gave Basford a fifth minute lead, cutting in from the right
to shoot past Dan Roberts. Witton were level in the 12th minute, Scott
Lycett turning quickly to score from close range at the back post giving Jake Wood no chance.

With Basford well below par 1st half Robert Hopley put the visitors ahead on 32nd minutes as United squandered possession far too easily.

2nd half Basford put Witton under intense pressure from the off, and controversy reigned as Lewis Carr point blank header was cleared off the line with most arguing the ball was cleared from behind the goal line. Moments later Ben Hutchinson hammered a shot against the bar and Reece Bertrams thunderbolt was kept out by Roberts. Fabian Smith should have scored as he missed the angle by an inch. More to follow as the injured Roberts proved the hero with a string of fine saves with the pick being turning over Kieran Wells point blank header. Having ridden the storm Witton held out to gain 3 priceless points as they eye Shaw Lane.
Tough on Basford but failure to perform at a good level for the 90 minutes was key to the defeat today despite playing so well 2nd period. Martin Carruthers & Mark Clifford will no doubt be annoyed at the ease possession was squandered for both the visitors goals.
Basford have the perfect opportunity to get back on track as Chasetown visit Greenwich Avenue Monday evening for a 3rd round Integro Doodson cup tie and a right to enter the last 8 of this competition.
Congratulations to Witton a great club, well supported. Champions elect need to rid out storms like this which they did brilliantly today. Basford will take great heart that we can mix it with the best in this league, and this should stand us in great stead as we pursue our own playoff push.
With todays attendance over 200 all were treated to a great game and a clear demonstration of top quality good value football at this level and we hope to see you back.

So are the other lads.

Is this his 2nd or 3rd holiday during the football season and we’re only 6 months in. Not acceptable

So are the other lads.

Is this his 2nd or 3rd holiday during the football season and we’re only 6 months in. Not acceptable
I for one am more than happy to accept the situation, not that I have any say in the matter. If it was a problem to management they would surely have dealt with it by now.

When you play semi-pro football you are signing up for a commitment to your team for the whole of the season. Yes it’s tough working full-time and playing part time but that’s their choice. It’s a good job the other lads don’t follow suit or we’d have no team. You and the management are obviously more tolerant of this than I am.

Anyway back to the game. Did nobody off here go yesterday?? I’ve been looking forward to a bit of a report, besides the one from Basford. a mate of a mate went he said we defended like troupers and Danny was tremendous in goal. It says in that report that he got injured anyone know anymore?

This is a spot on review of the match. Basford are one of the strongest side I have seen us play this season! I just hope that Roberts injury problems were just time wasting, as his performance got us this win…fantastic keeper! To be honest, they battered us in the 2nd half, but some great discipline stopped them from scoring. We need to win this league, as I dont fancy us playing Basford in the play offs, even though we have done the double over them!

Apparently it’s his birthday, booked way before any rearranged matches due to delays, cancellations. This lad never misses training and has not missed any matches for discipline or injury. I seem to remember a few senior players missing matches earlier in the season, hopley, gards to name 2.
CJ is spot on these players have families, careers and travel for multiple matches per week! Stop talking crap

Sorry did we just win 3 tough games this week ? We have lost 3 games this season, paul played in 2 of them. You seem to be a glass half empty sort of guy. All non league clubs have to deal with this situation with players taking hols and unable to play due to work commitments, It happens, always has and always will.
Most players sign on for a season yes, but if any other club waves enough cash under their nose im sure youll find they will be off, not all i admit, and if a club and its supporters stand by their players and make them welcome, especially when they are having a great season, they are more likely to stay loyal.
You can always ask Paul youself for his reasons for having a break. All these lads that are here are very approachable and are willing to talk to the fans as are the management.
We dont have anybody who writes up match reports I’m afraid and we have to rely on Simmo for the most part for that. And he cant always be present. TT does his best on occasions but he does have other duties on match days. The Basford match report was very accurate and unbiased . As for Danny’s well being I’m sure the fitness of any player will be announced before the next game. You could get your mate’s mate to send you a report. :stuck_out_tongue:

LOL, Wondered what I was watching on the previous one, and yes Williams definitely played, what a goal from Scott Lycett- a top striker would have been proud to score that. UTA

Sorry, senior moment, dont know why I put Williams. I apologise
