I think 40 more points is achievable and we might be there or thereabouts for the playoffs, our only obstacles as I see it are risk of injuries/suspensions and being able to replace some absolutely excellent loan signings in - Firth, Ellison, Reeves, they will not be easy to replace but so far so good for the mgt team so happy to put my trust in them. Callum Hassan has been handed a 3 match ban. He misses the home games against Glossop North End, New Mills & the trip to Kendal Town.
On another note, to add to TT’s earlier post: Following Saturday’s game, we have now scored 28 league goals away from home which is more than any other team in the division.
What an absolutely fantastic Saturday day out despite the horrible weather. Wherever this current Witton team play however the sun shines for me. What a fantastic effort from all of the lads to beat a really good Burscough team with 10 men. I also think that Burscough were lucky that we did not win by a bigger margin. So many positives in the team now my only worry like everyone else I guess is when we lose the loan players. Lets face it Firth, Reeves, and Ellison are fantastic. Its not just that they are good players but the fact this is rubbing off on all our other players. Lads like Tom Scofield, Jon Dawson, Jay Mathews, and Wilson at the back are playing some great stuff, with ourmore experienced players Danny Andrews and Guards also playing with much more confidence. The inroduction of Rob Hopleyhas also turned the tide as this lad is lethal in terms of goal scoring heading abilty and sheer effort.
Like a few people have mentioned already Carl was not my first choice as manager but I’m so glad we’ve got him now as he and his team have turned the playing side round. I spoke to him and Gary Martingdale before the match and they were brilliant in letting me ask some questions about the team and what came over was their enthusiasm for the job. What a complete contrast to Mr Dunderhead and his overbloated team!! Special mention too for John Salmon. Its largely due to him that we get hold of people like Callum Hassam as they contact John to see if he can get them a club.
All I ask now is that we guard aginst complacency , keep on trying and working hard and continue climbing up the table even if we don’t quite manage the play offs which a month ago we all would have scoffed at!!
Also how fantastic to hear our fans making such a great noise and for the most part keeping it clean too. I even joined in myself behind the goal when the rain got too heavy.Overthe moon with this after so long in the doldrums this season.
Onward and upward. UTA
