Buxton vs Witton Albion

I had just drafted a letter to the press praising our team and laughing at Vics, have to scrub it now. Is it only Witton who can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory or is it just my imagination?
WHS.

Full Time Score: BUXTON 2 WITTON ALBION 1.

Thanks everybody for the info.

Gutted with the result.

I´ll wait for the official verdict on our performance.

Back to the bar.

In brief - pretty even game for 60-65mins, Thompson scored a well taken goal after a slip by their defender.

Last 25/30 was all Buxton, points weren’t snatched the same way as they were saturday.

Maybe the pitch tired our players I dont know but we really struggled in the last part of the match.

Still some positives, but I think our perfrmaces pobably deserved more than 1 point over the last 2 matches however.

Ok put it behind us - Saturday now.

First half evens Buxton probably had more chances than us but Greg Smith again at his best. We hit the post from an edge of the box free-kick and brought a good save from their keeper with another.

2nd half we probably scored too early - another excellent goal from Thompson - but we faded badly, gave the ball away far to easily and it was only a matter of time before Buxton scored. Our substitutions came far too late and we never created one chance after we scored. ( Will we ever see Ross Thacker in the team ? )The penalty looked a bit harsh - ball headed down onto Dan Schartz hand.

Worst performance of the season for me and we ended up looking a rabble

Will have to improve on that performance at Bamber Bridge on Sat.

Sorry for negative report - Rant over - Keep the faith

worst performance of the season. I spoke 2 a buxton fan after the game he was right in front of it and couldnt believe the ref gave the pen as it was ball to hand. We need 2 get singing like we did last season. And ross thacker needs 2 be getting started surely, why settle was dropped il never know when hes had 2 keep playing out of position and playing well, and lugsdens starting place must be on borrowed time.

We played well until we scored! After that we just seemed to be retreating further and further into our own half - which will have been down to Buxton pushing on as much as anything else. It was only a matter of time before they scored.

I felt our changes came too late, we reacted to them equalising rather than being pro-active and trying to stretch them on the counter.

I don’t see that Lungsden can start on Saturday, he just hasn’t done anything of note since Prescot. I’d rather see us play Proffitt through the middle and actually field a winger on the wing…

However, it isn’t all doom and gloom as we did play well enough for large parts of the game. I think once again it will have been a learning exercise for Nige, and it is still very early days for this team.

KTF.

I think people panning the performance is a bit harsh. We controlled the game for the first 30 mins and the fact that we didn’t score then was the first step towards our downfall. We then controlled the 1st 15 mins of the 2nd half so in terms of possession etc it was fairly even. However Buxton’s decision to change around and shoot down the hill 2nd half was a crucial one. We looked knackered running up quite a big slope in the final third, and it was easy for them to knock balls into the channels on a pitch that was wet through and had too much grass on it. The penalty was a wrong decision, the referee was starting to back away ready for the clearance until they appealed then clearly changed his mind. Schwarz’s hand was by his side and the lad heading the ball was 2 yards away from him. I agree with the sentiments about Lugsden, however Settle is no better and I think that team with Rod instead of Lugsden is probably as strong as we get. Pritch might have a battle on his hands to play many games this season, the two centre halves did the ugly stuff well and played football from the back.

All in all, a draw would have been fair and without the intervention of the referee that would have been the result.

You called it a stone-wall penalty last night!!!

H couldn’t see it, being as he’s a midget and had to stand on his tippy toes to watch the match!!

a buxton fans view of the game, and mine.

Thought that Witton worked really hard in the 1st half & played some good football. Buxton were giving away alot of free kicks around the penalty area, Scott Hartley making some fantastic saves & them hitting the post, Scott kept us in it in the 1st half. This was not going to be a pretty game with the pitch being really heavy.

40 seconds into the 2nd half Witton were ahead from some very sloppy defending. Buxton then started to push Witton back the last 20Min’s or so the fitness of Buxton showed. The new lad Reuben as got great pace & was taking there defence apart with him making the 1st goal for Knight to slot home. Maxfield had to be subbed after a very heavy challenge on him for the 2nd time on came Brodie who had a shot that just went over top. Gav Knight never stopped running all game went after a long ball & headered it across the penalty box only for a Witton player to handle the ball the ref gave Buxton a penalty which Gav Knight coolly slotted the ball home. ( To be fair to Witton it didn’t really look like a penalty & if it had gone against the bucks I sure Reedy would have gone mad ). With 4 mins of injury time to play the Bucks kept it in the corners to run the clock down.

This was hard fought win for us & 3 valuable points.

If there was 1 player that we really missed tonight it was MICHAEL TOWEY, Bootle & North Ferriby lets have him straight back in the team.

Personally i think Pritch has been on borrowed time for a good 200 odd appearances now…perhaps dropping down a league would prolong his career slightly? I hear that Halifax are struggling, so maybe he could get a game there?

Had a fit Pritch been in the team at Buxton we would not have lost that game. His leadership and endeavour is what is lacking at the minute.

Robbo, if your tongue had been any further in your cheek it would be coming out of the side!

So he would have made Greg Smith catch the ball rather than parry it and he would have prevented Scott Willis giving the ball away which led directly to the penalty would he??

YES

Oh well in that case, i agree!
