Droylsden vs Witton Albion

Full Time Score from Butchers Arms:

Droylsden 4 Witton Albion 3.

Can only be down to attitude, either conscious or subconscious, certainly not ability. I would be inclined to think the latter, but as I said in a post a couple of weeks ago, ‘How much of football is played in the head?’

I love supporting Witton.

Due to other results we stay above the relegation zone. Stocksbridge are now officially relegated, Stafford, Frickley & Marine also lost. Stafford will be almost down if they lose at Grantham on Tuesday night.

I’ll say nothing much about the game beyond the fact that the ability of players on a good run to willfully self-destruct never ceases to amaze me. Even in the 2nd half, with the pitch a total morass, some of our players were still rolling short passes into puddles instead of chipping it forward to safety.

What actually cheered me up was shaking hands with a few Droylesden fans and saying “well done, thoroughly deserved”. Their team has had a season I wouldn’t wish on anyone ( barring some local lot in green…) but they did them proud today, showing passion and a lot of skill. Apart from one slip their little no 6 was amazing!!

Knowing Witton, we’ll turn it on against FCUM, but that still doesn’t take away the pain of today. I’m going to drink too much to blot out the memory now…

Couldn’t make it today or last Tuesday but can’t get my head round it ! Good job I didn’t bet on either match! A good run of results tho prior to today and still lots of points to play for.

We win at Skem, and then this damn disgrace!! :red mooney .argument

I wish I was surprised but we all spoke about this possibility on the way there.

You can single players out or moan about the management but at the end of it all we got beaten by a team who had played 38 games before today and lost 35 of them. It looks like the squad they’ve got now is the best they’ve had all season but that stat doesn’t change regardless.

The Skem performance was brilliant, so to go from that to this is mind blowing. I don’t think anyone could explain it. Had the results been the other way round we’d be going into Tuesday on a high, but at any level of football, today is embarrassing. Radio 5 even got a piece of it.

Witton. Bloody hell.

See you on Tuesday.

Seen it so many times over the years of watching Witton, coming up against teams that prop up the league table and feeling full of expectation only to be disappointed afterwards. Anything can happen in football and it usually does, nothing surprises me anymore.

Anyone who is surprised by ANY Witton performance or result has not been supporting the team very long, we have been doing it since “Adam was a lad”!! Win on Tuesday, I doubt it but then again it is Witton.
WHS.

The dust has now settled and no excuses for that result, or performance, in all honesty for those not at the game we could and should have gone in at half time losing by more than 3 goals it was that bad!

Suicidal defending, an offside trap that was too high and not working as a unit and an unbelievable 40 yard back pass on a pitch where there was no guarantee the ball would roll!

We had a 20 minute spell after half time where we got back into the game but you can’t deny Droylesden their win, fully deserved

As I say there is no excuse BUT the match should never have been played to a finish, there was standing water, players flying into tackles out of control and it was actually dangerous and the referee should be reported for that alone (never mind the total lack of control when it came to time wasting!).

Anyway this is and we are Witton so expect the unexpected and a win against FC on Tuesday is now highly likely!

PS shock horror people were booing (not me though!)
