Pity it wasnt a back pass or a cross Matt Cooper had to deal with we might have scored lol, not worth bothering about -Move on UTA
Just got back from Glossop and it was poor from start to finish. I know we’re better off out of it but it’s a bit poor when Glossops number of goals was more than Witton fans in attendance!
Well done for travelling on a cold Nov night
As one of the (very) few who went to Glossop last night, it was clear from watching the lads warm up that we’d rested the entire first team. Not surprising given the efforts put in on Saturday. I was stood with a pal from work, a die-hard GNE fan, and he said that they had rested some but were still fielding a strong 11. It was the preverbial men versus boys.
Whislt there was no lack of effort, these lads were simply slower to the ball, tactically naive and out muscled almost every time. Lots of sloppy passes cost us not only possesion but at least twice, goals.
A good run out for some of the fringe players, but not the best for their confidence, on the wrong end of a good hiding!

Absolutely gutted to be out of the world famous Integro cup, the one every club in the land would love to have in their trophy cabinet. Anyone know the number for the Samartans? .veryangry
Not a good night all round.
Witton decided to rest the normal 1st team, with only Paul Williams starting from the normal 11. The team was made up of many Development Team players, plus some new signings made in the last couple of days, with one of the signings being made only 9mins before the deadline.
Glossop took the opposite strategy and played the strongest side, which included Sam Barnes and Matt Cooper in the starting lineup, with Jamie Rainford on the bench.
Some slick passing in the 6th minute saw Karl Jones one on one with Dominic Garner, and the tall attacker side footed home his finish.
Witton fought hard for the rest of the half, but failed to trouble Matt Cooper in the Glossop goal, and some desperate defending was finally punished by MOM Max Leonard with 2 very well taken goals in the last 5 mins of the half.
HALF-TIME
GLOSSOP 3 WITTON 0
Half time substitutions for Witton, Paul Williams off(recurrence of his ankle problem), and Leon Donnelly off.
Stephen Vakassakis and Tom Hughes on.
Glossop started the 2nd half where they finished the 1st half off, and were awarded penalty in the 46 minute, but Witton’s man of the match, Dominic Garner, saved well.
Jamie Rainford was brought on in the 52nd minute, and within 2 mins he was on the score sheet, after timing his run to break the offside trap.
A further penalty on 62 minutes allowed Max Leonard to complete his hatrick, and he was substituted shortly after converting.
Witton were reduced to 10 men in the 70th minute when Karl Noon left the pitch with an injury, and Witton had no more substitutes.
Jamie Rainford put the final sword into Witton with a well taken goal on 75mins.
Witton battled hard in the last 15 minutes to keep the score to 6-0.

from Glossop…
A very enjoyable evening tonight. Witton put out a very weak side - “Reserves” might be stretching it and GNE had 7 changes from Saturday - some forced. That said, GNE played some excellent football and we were thoroughly entertained. Impressive performances all over the pitch - Max Leonard hat trick, two typical Jamie R finishes when he came on as sub, Carl Jones a real handful. Astley played very well, Iwan Heeley had an excellent game at right midfield. Defence looked very solid.
One thing I really admire in our manager is that he hates to lose any game and believes that if you are in a competition you should try to win. Sadly Witton did not agree and really ought to hand back their share of the gate!
What was most pleasing about tonight was the attendance - 221. England on ITV as well. What is more - there were 22 ties in this competition tonight and the highest attendance of the night was at Surrey Street! Well done to all our supporters - this is the real strength of the club. Long may it continue
I agree with Glossop
I’m sure Carl took the sensible option by resting some of our small squad, rather than risk having players injured and missing for games of more importance. I very much doubt he sent the players out not trying to win. Fair play to Glossop for the highest gate in the competition, but to be fair the bar wasn’t set very high, and was still over 400 behind Whitchurch Alport in the 1st division of the north west counties league, if their website is correct.
good luck to glossop in next round but actually winning this league cup does’nt earn you much more more than we got from beating kettering on saturday.it’s all about the money.
Carl made the right decision in my view by resting most of the first team, we are having a great season so far however were already playing catch up to teams around us in the league who have played several more games and with the wintry weather soon upon us games will be postponed so we could end up playing a dozen or so games in April!
Out of all the Cups we compete in the Intergro/Doodsons or whatever its called is the one that least gets the blood flowing!
Although it is disappointing to lose any game particularly when the first team is doing so well I go along with putting out a weakened squad on this particular occasion and have faith in what Carl decided to do. I was NEARLY there as I was due to be in Glossop last night and if so two more would have been on the crowd but a family situation prevailed glad to have missed such a drubbing but if there I would have been trying my best to encourage our lads!
For anyone interested, the team was: 1. Dominic Garner, 2. Daniel Adigun, 3. Miles Arnold, 4. Jake Doran, 5. Fernando Osagie, 6. Ronan Eves, 7. Ryan Hickman, 8. Paul Williams, 9. Karl Noon, 10. George Fry, 11. Leon Donnelly, 12. Paul Moore, 14. Stephen Vakassakis and 15. Thomas Hughes.
I did add it following the game once it was provided for me.
I hadn’t noticed that Derek, sorry
No problem Thomas, everything was chaotic that night with a late kick off and information was scarce.
I don’t really go to away games that much…last one was Warrington (sorry, must do better)…would be great to know how many Albs travel each week…! The FCUM game had quite a few as did Nantwich-twat-drumming-day…any other biggies recently?
