On the basis that we now have about £2k in the ground collection fund (and that the target costs are more like £1.5k) how would fans feel regards using the last 5 ground collections of the season (and the remaining home games) to help make a donation to Paul Booth’s operation?

As this is a fans donation the majority would need to be happy with this decision. Paul is privately funding an operation that is going to costs a few thousand pounds and I think it would be appropriate that a sum of money was donated to contribute towards the high cost of this.

I think the ground collections so far have been immense, Tracey has done a tremendous job and the generosity from spectators is fantastic. For anyone looking at the pitch yesterday before kick-off you will have already seen the good condition it is in, however the money raised will help maintain this and make sure it is ready for pre-season next year.

Having reached the pitch target it would be interesting to gauge thoughts on the subject of donating some monies to Boothy.

If the sums add up for the ground maintenance then I second the motion.

Wasnt that a Smokey Robinson song?

Cant argue with the thought though. But the condition should be that Boothy signs on for the next 5 years!!!

i say yes let’s help boothy out. a good player who shows enthusiam for the club. has got the makings of another pritch.

How do you come to the sum of £1500 needed for the ground maintenance Rabbit?
Have you contacted the team doing all the work, as you will find out alot more than £1500 is needed.
Please ask the ground mainteance team for what sum they require

Boothy is a good lad but players (with the exception of Pritch!) come and go. I don’t object to putting a few bob in the bucket for Boothy as long as Lens point above is addressed!

Mark Harris mentioned to me a figure of around £1200 for the pitch fund. Of course there are always other costs that need to be met.

Any decision could be made by the groundstaff. I think it always looks good on the club if we look after players such as Booth when they need it, but as MM says, players do come and go so the first priority has to be the upkeep of WP.

And Pritch too will come and go… It’s just that, like everything else that he does, he is a little bit slower to do it than most players!!!

As Tracey instigated this collection should it not be up to her as to where the monies go ?

Len, see Robbo’s post above. The figure discussed in passing was not a pound and pence cast iron amount, I added a further £300 as additional buffer.

It was more conceptually a question of if the monies required to take care of the pitch had been met then should some consideration be given to supporting one of our players who is having to raise several thousands of pounds of his own money (many times the pitch repair costs) to fund an operation?

The overall maintenance costs for the club could be significantly higher, if we want to add in replacing the goalposts, more refurbishment of the social club, upgrading the corridor between the changing rooms and the stand, other external works such as the car park. You can keep going and before long reach any figure you want to!!! Speak to Pritch he’ll give you a long shopping list (including scaffolding)! Like many others I have made visits to B&Q before now and spent £200 on materials for maintenance.

Perhaps the starting point then would be for the ground staff to prepare their budget and determine the expected spending. The monies Tracey has raised fantastically have been raised by the fans, so the fans can equally share in any debate and suggestions over how they are spent.

Boothy is a great lad, but it all about choices - he choose to play football, he choose to play with no personal insurance, he choose to go private with the op.
I think the money should go to the club thats why i put my money in there every week, for then to change the destination of my money once i had put it in is not right.
If people want to put money in the bucket for Boothy it should be from now on.

I think that is exactly what is being suggested Jono.

Well spotted Robbo…

"how would fans feel regards using the last 5 ground collections of the season (and the remaining home games) to help make a donation to Paul Booth’s operation? "

Jono, would you contribute a couple of pounds for Boothy on the basis he is a great lad?

I’m not going to be at many of the forthcoming games due to work but on the basis I would stick a couple of quid in every week I’ll start off by giving Traceylove a tenner to start the bucket going.
