Ian Kearney

How good is he?
I believe he didn’t play much for you last season so what can we expect?

Ian who ?

LOL

He’s a good player Jim, Ian had a enforced slow start to the season as he was suspended (due to being sent off in the play-off game at the end of the previous season). When he did get into the team he then had an ankle injury which cost him some appearances. The problem Ian faced last year was that Brian Pritchard had a stunning season at the back and our other centre half was the captain Tony Barras. When Tony was fit he naturally played as the captain and therefore Ian could not get a solid run in the team. He did play a number of games in midfield and at right back although he is best suited to centre half. I think ironically he would have been the preferred starting player alongside Pritch this year but he decided to move on. He is a good signing for you and a good bit of business by your manager, I think he’ll do a good job for you.

He likes to play the ball on the ground so I hope your groundsman has sorted out that cabbage patch of yours

Good luck

At our end of season players awards do, Ian was voted by our ex manager as the Most Improved Player of the Season. I believe he was being groomed to take the place of one of our most experienced central defenders. Many supporters felt that the transition should have happened last season, but unfortunately for Ian, the form of Tony Barras and Brian Pritchard kept him out. He was also hampered in getting places at full back or midfield by injuries at crucial times.
I believe he was definetely ear-marked for progression next season.
We will miss him, and he is our loss and your gain.

A very good player, cant understand why he has gone to Ashton. Could have done a lot better.

Thanks for that.
Ian might have signed for Ashton Utd due to the fact that the manager is a young fella with big ambitions and maybe those ambitions lie away from Hurst Cross! Therefore I am sure if Ian does the business he will be looked after by his new manager.

Personally i have always rated Ian very highly. I thought he should have figured alot more than he did last season.

But judging by the award the manager felt fit to issue to Ian, then sitting in the stands and on the bench obviously improved him as a player - so that must be good coaching… :stuck_out_tongue:
