Kendal vs Albion

what a game! i have a feeling more goals will be coming our way in the second half!!!

Lets not forget if we score 2 more goals (minimum) without concedin and burscough carry on drawin we could go 4th ahead of burscough on goal difference! Come on Witton!

If my calculations are correct then if Burscough draw then they will be 4 points ahead so a win for us would still leave us a point behind in 5th, provided the other results stay the same.

4 Burscough 25 13 6 6 50 26 24 45
5 Whitby Town 26 14 3 9 44 39 5 45
6 Matlock Town 24 13 5 6 45 26 19 44
7 Guiseley 28 12 7 9 43 31 12 43
8 Witton Albion 23 12 6 5 47 28 19 42

o aye! haha sorry me gettin a little too excited there lol! Still the more goals we score now the better! Not been another goal yet?! Lol Come on Witton!

Telford still 0-0 at the moment and Conmans greens 1 down to Weymouth reserves

2 six goal games on the trott has got to start bringing people back to watch this superb team!![br]Posted on: January 27, 2007, 05:02:30 PM
2 points closer to Telford too who also drew 0-0

Another excellent performance, again the result did not flatter us.
We did miss a few chances but 5 goals is 5 goals and it will pretty much always get you 3 points - what more do we want from a trip to the lakes? (mint cake as well?)

Lets carry it on for Tuesday and then the really important league games start with Marine.

Well done the Albs, another great result, we’ve got to be the hot team in the league right now.

I’m off on holiday on Monday, so I’m going to miss the games against S**m and Marine, gutted! With regard to Tuesday, I agree with what Jim (and a few others on this forum) have said - you can’t afford to pick which games to win, you’ve got to try to win them all, nothing succeeds like success! When you’re on a winning run, you don’t believe you can lose, and that’s just the attitude that can bring us promotion, and maybe even the championship.

Best of luck to the lads, keep it up, and thanks for some great football this season.

A fantastic performance and well earned victory.

We ripped them to bits in the first half. You can’t ask for more than scoring 4 goals in 45 minutes away from home! Kendal were always going to put up a better fight in the second half, however the game was over and done with. Exactly how to play away from home. The pitch resembled Farmer Giles’ back field, yet even that didn’t trouble us, and the gradient on that pitch would have made it a black run if it was covered in snow!

I was critical of Griff at the start of this season, not convinced that he should be starting games up front. I take it all back, in the last few games he has been superb - strong, composed, clinical. He holds the ball up extremely well, spreads it out to the wing when required and has really got his eye on the goal. His composure for the first goal showed that beyond doubt.

I would give Griff man of the match however picking only one player out does not do justice to the rest of the team. Again I commented last week on how impressive the midfield was, I have not seen a stronger group of players in this league.

Final comment about the fans. For a game that was 90 miles away on the last Saturday in January it was a fantastic away attendance. The support at the moment is making a massive difference and there is no question that this is a boost to the player’s confidence. You can see in the way we are playing that there is great team spirit amongst the lads and they are enjoying their football. You can tell from their reaction to the fans how much the support is appreciated.

At the moment the games can’t come quick enough, there is absolutely no reason why we can’t keep this run going - part of the battle is believing it and I think the players/fans/management all do. Jim and Benny deserve huge credit for where we have got so far this season.

See ya Tuesday

I did say that it was asking a lot for us to catch Telford as one draw would increase the gap to 10 points if we were to win all our games in hand. What as happened? Tellford draw and the gap if we win our games in hand is just 6 points. Proves what I and many others thought, I know nothing about football!!! This is undoubtedly the best team to grace the Witton shirts in 10 years, now even I KNOW that is true!!!
WHS.

UniBond League Premier Division ? Saturday January 27th 2007

KENDAL TOWN 1 WITTON ALBION 5 att 262

TEAM: Kennedy: Spearritt, Pritchard, Barras, Brownhill (Hockenhull 80); Miller (Gahgan 74), Connors, Brown Alex, Lloyd; Warlow (Moseley 77), Jones G.

For the second consecutive Saturday Albion exacted revenge in abundance upon a team that, earlier in the season, had the audacity to inflict a rare defeat on Jim Vince?s team. The whole of the opening half, with Shaun Miller prominent throughout, saw Witton continue in the same vein from their 6-0 defeat of Lincoln seven days before. Tidal waves of Yellow swept the home defence aside and come the half-time break the job of claiming all three points was done.

Albion?s first attack saw Miller find Adam Warlow whose low shot saw keeper Rick Whiteside get down to save. The floodgates were then opened in the 13th minute when Kendal were caught square and GRIFF JONES having brilliantly controlled Warlow?s pass, advanced drew and rounded the keeper and kept his composure to calmly plant the ball home.

Witton?s next two goals came within a minute and were both the results of excellent cross-field passing. Rob Lloyd in the 24th minute sprayed the ball right to Miler, he advanced and could have tried a shot himself, instead though he spotted GRIFF JONES centrally placed and the in-form striker swept the ball home to make him the 4th Albion player to make double figures this campaign.

From the restart Town quickly lost possession and the ball was down the right flank again, Miller laid it off to Jones who delivered a high ball, over all the defenders, onto the head of the incoming STEVE CONNORS outside the far post who headed powerfully over the keeper.

With half-time fast approaching Liam Brownhill fended off a rare Town attack down by the corner flag and with Connors in close attendance the pair exchanged passes whilst advancing up to their opponents? penalty area. That was where ADAM WARLOW took control and upon receiving the ball characteristically worked himself into good position before fairly lashing the ball into the roof of the net to register his 18th goal for the season.

The opening minutes of the second period looked to be having more of the same to entertain Albion?s ever growing travelling supporters that swelled the Parkside Road attendance by a third. Connors missed a clear chance before Warlow was on the end of another good move but headed narrowly wide. Slight scare for Jon Kennedy on 69 minutes but along with the alert Brownhill they cleared David Foster?s and Town?s only real effort away. Lloyd produced a good break down the right shortly after and his perfect pass to Warlow looked odds on to produce the desired effect but the striker pulled his shot and the ball drifted wide of the far post.

On 82 minutes Connors looked to have hit a wayward ball out of play, not so as Jones chased to the far corner and having retrieved the situation released the ball to ROB LLOYD who cleverly ?evaded? Mike Moseley to produce the perfect finish. Kendal went in search of consolation and when Zach Clarke was forced slightly wide he produced a tumble good enough for Cumbrian referee Corkhill to award a penalty. Gareth Arnison striking a good spot-kick wide to Kennedy?s right. Albion though very nearly got their sixth when substitute Moseley chased a ball to the touch-line before finding Connors in support, the midfield man turned and crossed in an instance to find the inrushing Alex Brown but his headed attempt just cleared the crossbar.

So yet again this season the team left an away arena to a tremendous ovation but this time also to the tunes of several newly invented ditties conjured up by a group of their rapturous fans!

Spoke to a few Kendal fans at the game who thought we were the best team to have been there this season - by a distance.

5-1 doesn’t flatter and it was a superb performance again from the whole team. Excellent support from the terraces and in all a perfect day out.

We can win this league - you have just got to believe it - and on and off the pitch we can make it happen!

Roll on Marine!!

I have to say it, being as no-one else has, but how negative were we in the 2nd half?? Only ONE goal. It’s just not acceptable

In all seriousness, yet another FANtastic day out with the Albs. And for those not making the journey on coach, you really don’t know what you are missing!!

Griff Jones was once again outstanding inleading the line, Lloyd and Brown are forming an excellent midfield partnership, and Stevie Connors is running the show from left mid. Awesome.

Not convinced with Leanne Brownhill’s double-earring combination though!!

However, no matter how fantastic the last 2 results have been it will matter little if we slip up on Saturday. We have some MASSIVE fixtures coming up, including Hednesford and Whtiby at home. If we keep playing like we are though then i see no reason why we can’t put a run of convincing victories together.
