I can never understand why people go on about the big midfielder to break down the opposition. I was always taught that if your team hasn’t got the ball you are a defender and therefore pick up the nearest member of the opposition. The management do not seem to instil this into the team consequently some members of the side do not track back and therefore leave their job to someone else. This team is good at going forward, but not enough of them are prepared to defend when necessary as was clear last season. A well organised team will stop other teams effectively - just look at City yesterday - and we need to be well organised.Once we are, we will be able to use our many attacking options. For me more work should have been done in the pre-season to ensure that each player in the squad knows and excecutes their responsibilities.
To think that the spectators felt that some players did not know in which positions they were playing in the first game of the season must come down to the management and their ability to transfer their ideas to the team.
With respect, you should change your name to "LOON". Done more in pre-season???..What apart from their own professions, how can you compare a Premier league team, who can train everyday of the week and are paid stupid amounts of money to do so, to a Unibond side who have to work to make a living.
Oh and then there was the abhorent weather in pre-season, so the schedule was wiped out plus the fact that BP ran off with half of last years squad so the management team had to replace almost half.
Then the team are expected to carry on where they left off, with every team they play against thinking it is a cup final and are out to stop them by hook or by crook.
So how would you have planned pre-season for the team? no doubt you would have utilised all the time and technology that is available at this level in conjunction with your superior footballing knowledge and man management skills to ensure that the squad you had assembled made winning this league a formality.
Having seen JV and a couple of the players this morning, let me assure you they are also dissapointed with the result.
Lets not start griefing the management after 1 effing game, no-one has won a league title in August
Have to disagree with Toon. Any team that has ever won a league has had a ball winning midfield player;
Liverpool in the 80’s - Souness & McMahon
Leeds in 92 - Batty
United throughout the 90’s - Ince, Keane, Butt
Blackburn in the mid 90’s - Batty
Arsenal in their recent winning years - Viera
Chelsea - Makelele
Witton in 91 - Grimshaw
One defeat does not make us a bad side, or under-prepared. It means we lost a game. I think we need a ball-winner to complement our ball-players - maybe that player is already within the existing squad. Other than that, i still have alot of confidence.
To hear u lot looks like Jim will be joing Fergie at the Job Centre.
It’s very frustrating that so many of you are so cynical and have such short memories.
Robbo, i think you’ve hit the nail on the head. The ball winning midfielder we need IS already in the squad - Ant Danylyk. Unfortunately he was introduced when we were chasing the game and was only probably brought on due to Lloyd carrying a knock.
Alex Brown is the only player out of the Lloyd, Brown, Dillon combination who is really capable of putting a strong tackle in. And that is only occasionally. In away games such as these, Danylyk really needs to play. I truthfully think that he would have made a difference on Saturday.
Anyhow what’s done is done, lets get behind the lads and sit back and admire the Albion as they brush aside Marine in a similar fashion to last season’s league game at home - hopefully minus the fog ;D
I still can’t quite believe anybody can even question JV or the squad at this early stage! It was a disappointing defeat and we didn’t get it right on the day, end of. This squad is more than capable of winning the league this year, there’s no doubt about that. Hopefully when Crowe is fit, Warlow will have a strike partner. However, if Jim thinks we need a new forward, I’m sure he’ll draft one in.
Everybody is welcome to an opinion but lets try and keep it positive at this early stage!
Can no one have an opinion on the football side of things without being attacked for being negative, its a football forum for gods sake : im one hundred percent behind Jim, a season ticket holder and do not want anyone else running the team but I have an opinion too, thats all we are doing expressing an opinion for discussion, your view is valid as well, if we cannot discuss the football team on here then shut the forum :'(site down we are connett vics we are free to discuss things.
I can’t remember comparing our set up with a premier league team’s!. However,I would have expected, that from the end of June when the squad got together up to the first game of the season, that at some stage the players and management would have got together to discuss the tactics for the season and would have known where they were going to play and how. So when people come on to the forum and say that it looked like some of the players didn’t seem to know where they were playing before the injury to Barras it sounds a bit worrying.
If Ant Danylyk is the player who should be in the middle, which I dont disagree with, then should we be playing 3-5-2 to accomodate him or should we drop Brown or LLoyd?
Based on the evidence of Saturday, in my opinion Dillon should be the player to make way.
Come on folks we’re not from over the canal!
Lets just stick behind the team - Nothings wonin August unless you believe City will win the title!
Bloody hell!! it never changes with the wittoners does it, we all love a moan ha. I personally wasn’t there saturday but from all accounts, we were unlucky not to come away with something, a few tactical adjusts by all accounts and we will be fine!!
SO COME GET BEHIND THE ONLY SIDE IN WINCHAM!!! A HAPPY AND POSITIVE CROWD MEANS ALOT TO THE PLAYERS!!!
ALBION! ALBION! ALBION!
