Market Drayton Town vs Witton Albion.

What can I say. Agree with what CJ said

Awful referee - overweight, couldn’t keep up with play. I’ve seen better reffing my 10 year old nephews team blatant penalty. Blatant goal that he disallowed. blatant red card for horrible foul on Roberts.

Awful defence - Gards just isn’t cutting it IMHO. time for a change in captain is needed, we need strong vocal leadership and not someone who has been longest at the club wearing the armband

Awful finishing - or not! Too many missed chances

Why only 2 subs?

We will struggle to make the play offs if this continues

Apparently, the goal was disallowed for a foul on the keeper - an offence which only the referee claimed to have seen. The keeper told some of our fans behind the goal that he wasn’t touched. I believe Matty Devine was cautioned for simulation for one of the penalty claims. There were five subs named, as I mentioned in an earlier post when the teamsheet was posted on Twitter only two subs names were visible so had to find out by other means but it was corrected. With other results going the way they did last night, it puts more pressure on getting a result on Saturday now. A win last night IMO , would’ve meant that a draw against Newcastle Town on Saturday would’ve been acceptable but now it becomes more crucial that we win.

Whilst Gards was not at his best last night he was up against their best player by a mile and by dropping Wilson unsettled the defence and because Williams wasnt playing Owens was meant to support Gards- He didnt was always in the middle and cannot tackle ! for me we could consider a different shape to allow us to be at our best saturday if everyone is fit and available eg

                    Roberts

Gardner, lycett, Brown, Wilson, Devine
Prince, Willliams, Bauress
Hopley Tames

Changing Captains will not change anything if players cannot finish, we have players missing and crap referees, we have done superbly with Gards as captain so I dont see why we need a change at all and we will be superb again, same old problem a good 11 but nothing really on the bench. UTA

How people can criticise Gards is unbelievable. He has been excellent throughout the season whether at full back or make shift centre back. First name down on my team sheet every time. UTA

Add me to the Gards support list. I’m sure if the manager puts him in the side, he must think Gards is doing OK and I believe that Carl is a pretty good manager.

Were you at the match last night?

The ref was crap end of. I did think it was a stonewall penalty on matty but I did notice the non reaction of the Witton fans who were directly in front of the incident. Tom owens in my opinion was fortunate to stay on the pitch after he pushed over the number 4.

I wasn’t at the game last night, (but accepting what you say JT) as the old saying goes one swallow doesn’t make a summer, nor does one less-than-usual performance make a player a bad player.

We haven’t had a settled side of late nor have we had a consistent run of games and good team performances. This is another one of the downsides of games being called off. We have lost momentum and need to rebuild it - and quickly. We know that on our day we are as good as anyone in this league. We now need to keep the faith in the team and management to get performances back to where we would like them to be.

I’m not saying Gards shouldn’t be in the squad and I’m not saying that Carl isn’t a good manager. What I am saying is Gards isn’t on his game at the moment. For whatever reason. Perhaps for the reasons CJ said. I would give hopley the armband for the rest of the season

We have to play better than we did against me Gresley and market Drayton if we are to reach the play offs. We’ve got an incredibly tough 3 months ahead

Great player Rob, but dont remember him being the most vocal of players. Gards has admitted that he had a bad game last night and has apologised to his facebook followers, and i’m sure he will want to put that right on saturday. one defeat isnt season defining either.

I know one swallow doesn’t make a summer etc etc but we should be winning teams like that easily.

Anyone can have a bad game but I don’t think Gards has been playing to his potential of late. He wasn’t the only one to have a bad game last night

One away defeat, that is all, we will be back.
AND.

Shaw Lane seem to be firing on all cylinders at the moment, but that can’t last for ever. They surely MUST drop points at some stage, and all we need is a steady ship again, and now injuries are improving and suspensions are finished, that should start to happen. Going to be tough with all the games to be played, but I for one have full support in our manager and players. We may not win every game, but all I want is the commitment we’ve shown most of the time so far, whether in victory or defeat. Don’t want to pile too much pressure on the manager or team, but provided they give a 100%, how can we complain when we lose the odd game? The title or play offs are still within reach, so let’s get behind them, and not start finding fault with any individual/s. UTA, you can do it

Unless Shaw Lane blow up big style the title’s theirs, but it’s good that we’re looking towards the top end of the table rather than the bottom. OK so Market Drayton beat us so did Carlton, we only drew with v*cs but I know who’s position I would rather be in.

Panic seems to have set in. It’s only January.

If we don’t win it - it’ll be every referee’s fault as it always is when we lose, it seems.
GE

of course its the refs fault - thats the law !

From MDFC

It was only the weather that was wet and gloomy last night for the Drayton faithful as Town produced one of the finest performances witnessed in recent times with a last gasp 3-2 victory over the visitors. One of the promotion favourites still, despite being in 9th place with plenty of games in hand due to postponements and cup success, Witton were perhaps not expecting a Drayton performance quite as powerful as it was. This was a Drayton team though, that was building on some impressive recent form and results. A Boxing Day victory at Romulus was followed by a good performance at Shaw Lane despite the loss and a comeback victory over Stamford last time out.

The opening goal came on 9’ when Glyn Coney hooked in from distance to give Drayton the lead. On loan Witton star Tolani Omotola carried on his impressive form grabbing the equaliser following a free-kick given for a foul by Lyndon Campbell and that’s how the score stayed heading into half-time.

The second half continued in the same vein with both teams giving their all in a match that didn’t let up in pace all match. Drayton regained the lead when Shaqqua was put through to run clear and slot the ball past the keeper on 65’. The lead didn’t last long as Witton equalised through Scott Lycett 2 mins later and almost immediately thought they had taken the lead but the goal was disallowed for a foul on Ash Rawlins much to the chagrin of the travelling contingent.

As the match entered its finale a point would have been a good reward for a fine Drayton performance but deep into added on time Jud Ellis re-wrote the script and fired home the winner to match his wonder goal against Stamford on Saturday. Cue delirium amongst the players and there was no time for a Witton reply.

Final score Drayton 3-2 Witton. This puts Drayton on 29 points and remaining in 18th place, level with the 3 immediate teams above and stretching the distance to the relegation places to 13 points. Three wins in four outings and against some good teams to boot sees the good-ship Drayton sailing in calm waters.

Drayton… Rawlins; Gregory; O’Neill; Campbell; McMullen (cpt); Hartlebury (Payton); Whittingham; Beddows; James (C Ryan); Ellis; Coney

Yellow cards Campbell; McMullen; O’Neill; Beddows

Don’t know who wrote that drivel. Real Madrid they certainly weren’t
