Read on Twitter that he has left the club, is this true and if so where has he gone?
I understand he is expected to sign for Congleton. Although nothing has been confirmed by either club as of yet.
another young player lost…Newman, Schofield, Buchan and now Wooley…
To be honest they all left because of lack of game time in the first team, of them all I only felt that Schofield had the ability to go on and cement a first team place in our club at this level, the other were all decent but I thought had issues that stopped them developing as Glover has done, all that said I hope they all go on to have really good careers in football and you never know we may see them back in the future.
JPS - you’ve just said on another thread that you felt Mark Buchan wasn’t good enough to play at this level of football for a few years, you can’t have it both ways!
I think ideally we’d love to keep all the players ‘for the future’ but being fair at any level of football you don’t want to be on the bench regularly.
Matts always done a great job for us but like Newman and Schoey would struggle to make the first eleven at this stage. It is sad to see anyone leave especially local talent, and wish Matt well with his next manager!
Josh Glover has proven what can happen when a young player takes his chance. Josh looks like he’s going to be a class act and may take some shifting from the starting 11!
On another note, it wasn’t so long ago that Josh Hancock left the club and returned a much better player…
Thanks for the goal from the halfway line Matt, seriously though a great attitude to being a footballer but maybe this level is a step to high for Matt, Good Luck and hope you prove us all wrong :clap
The news does appear on the official nwcfl website that Matt has been registered by Congleton.
Personally I would rather keep a good local lad than sign Foster but that is the Manager’s decision not mine; he has to consider which one will keep him in a job, I hope he is right.
WHS.
let pritch make the decisions of who comes and goes at witton, after all he’s not done a bad job so far!. fozzy is a proven goal scorer, which is what some people have been calling for, so what’s the problem? welcome back fozzy.

I think it’s an insult to Pritch to suggest that his only desire is to stay in a job. You talk about a lack of loyalty elsewhere when we all know that he wants this club to succeed and not just himself. Even if he wasn’t manager you know he’d still be involved with the club.
I also think its a bit off to suggest that Woolley has gone to make room for Foster. Woolley has publically stated that he chose to leave because he wanted games and he wasn’t happy sitting on the bench at Witton. But let’s be fair was he going to nudge Gards, Woodsy or any of the midfielders out of a staring position, I think not.
Matt Woolley would have left the club regardless of who was brought in. As would have Mark Buchan, Schoey and Liam Newman. The common factor is they are all young lads who want to play football.
I wish all the lads who have moved on all the best in their futures however I will also back any player who comes into the club.
Well said Jamie.
I wish Matt Woolley well. Always struck me as a nice lad who gave his all. You can’t blame him for wanting to play regularly (as with the others who have moved on).
The post about rather keeping a local lad than signing Foster is a typically stupid remark.
I also wish Matt well for the future. As I have said before Congleton is an excellent set up and JV seems to be getting them playing well. I think that they are currently top (or thereabouts) of the North West Countiesleague? SBL
I certainly don’t think it is stupid to want to keep a good young lad rather than sign a mercenary like Foster. As for Pritch keeping his job, just remember what happened to a “Died in the Wool” Wittoner who failed to win matches, glad you are back Nigel. I will NEVER be ashamed of wanting local lads playing for us and I will NEVER be ashamed of not wanting mercenary players playing for us, I have seen enough of them in the past just taking the money then running when the money gets tight, do you want a list? Pritch has my FULL support, he must do what HE feels is right but I don’t have to like it.
WHS.
Would like to wish matt all the best as I’m sure every wittoner would. Define local? Take you don’t want Matty Wood here either as he comes from Telford and doubt he was a witton fan before he came. Same applies too many players we’ve had. If the local lads are good enough they will play Ben is a prime example of this. I understand you don’t like the decision to bring fozzy back. The players have to agree a code of conduct before they sign. If this still bothers you please have a conversation with Pritch or mark. Stop trying to rock the boat on here.

God he must be so relieved, jobs safe Pritch bowdown
I could understand your comments if we were bottom of the league but we have lost 3 league games and 1 cup game and we are in mid October.
This signing isn’t about saving jobs, this is about keeping up with the promotion chasers. Lets be fair we are going to remain in this league this season so there is the objective complete. Therefore if he chooses to we all know Pritch will be here till the end of the season. If you ask some at Fylde we are good enough to win the league. So to come on here and talk about Pritch making signings to save his job really is a huge misunderstanding of where this club currently is.
As for local lads, do you think if there were any that were good enough they would have been picked up by the club already? Show me a club that is successful using only ‘local’ lads. Using your theory teams like Whitby would be nothing more than a Sunday league team. Also there are a huge amount of clubs in this area fighting for the same talent.
We all understand your dislike for Foster but its time to keep it to yourself now whilst the rest of us get in supporting the team regardless of who is playing.
Matt Woolley, who left Nigel Deeley’s Witton to sign for big-spending Halifax?
Players come and go at all clubs. If I get offered more money, more holidays, a better pension or bonus them I am off. Why should footballers be any different to the rest of us? Good luck Matt. Young players want to play football. All real supporters want their team to be successful. 2 and 2 is 4, simples.
‘Died in the wool’ ???
