I agree Nige is a nice guy too nice i’m afraid. It is time we brought in an experienced head to guide the ship to safety before it is too late. We cannot afford to go down and by leaving alone I can see no other result.Nige is spot on as a number 2 so let him do what he is best at and bring in a not so nice number 1.Before Nigel starts getting undeservedly slated do the right thing by him and bring in a new number 1.Too many players are not pulling their weight and it needs sorting now. Then and only then can we keep the faith…
I have said it few times before,Nige needs an assistant with balls, vocal cords and sound footie know how.Nigel is an excellent coach but does not have a good back up.
I may get lynched for it but Benny may be the person.
I really do admire people’s support of Nigel but I think we all realise deep down that he’s simply out of his depth when it comes to management and I think that if he wasn’t a true Wittoner then he would of gone long ago. A lovely man (which may be half the problem) and a fantastic coach but the fact is we are in the same posistion as when Nige was in charge of Leek and Congleton, at the bottom!!!
The idea of making him number 2 again or bringing in someone with more experience is a great one as I think no one would like to see him lost to the club but just put in a situation where his skills can be better used.
I think the Doc’s idea of bringing Benny back is a really sensible one as he would cheap and the combination of Nigel’s coaching and Benny’s contacts and motivation would see us right. I don’t for one minute believe we would be pushing for a play off spot or anything but at least we would be out of harms way.
Other people who may be worth a look at our
Paul Ogden (who Nigel has worked with before)
Tony Greenwood - Ok people may say he’s expensive but I can’t see where else he is going to go so he will have to comprimise if he wants to get back into management.
Steve Waywell - Same as above
Danny Johnstone - Ok I know he’s on a contract at Ashton but has to be worth a try and he has done wonders there.
Ok I know this is a little off naming names to come into Nigel’s role but something really needs to change quickley and I think it would be better for everyone if Nigel moved back to the assistant manager role and doing what he does best COACHING!!!
i just cannt understand how the standard of football has got so bad so quickly! last night was definately the worse performance ive seen for a long time.
Something has to change quickly or we will be in a real mess, off and on the pitch.
The club know that there are about 200 fans who will turn up no matter what, but something has to be done on the pitch to keep the more fickle fans or up draw back some of teh fans that were coming last season.
Tony Greenwood would be the man. Maybe expensive but im sure we will get by just trim the squad of a few players 2 compensate and long term it would pay off. I think he would jump at the chance. Tony and Nige’s red n white army has a certain ring 2 it!
I think a lot of you are underestimating Nige’s resolve.
Several years ago, Nige was appointed, along with John Bingham as joint managers of Witton Albion, along the lines of nice cop/bad cop.
It didn’t last much more than a week, and Nige walked away.
Can you imagine in your own job, your boss promotes you, and more than doubles your salary. Two months later he changes his mind, and demotes you back to your old position, and more than halving you salary.
Would you be with that firm much longer? I think not!
Changing Nige’s position at this time of the season would be the biggest mistake this club ever made!
Those of you who think he is too nice should stand outside the dressing room sometimes! He can be ruthless!
Give him time…the grass is not always greener on the other side, and change is not always for the better!
If you want it from the horses mouth, then put your questions to him on Thursday night. You will be surprised.
Some good comments Thatch but there has to be a cut off point when we say that Nigel and Andy Nelson have had enough time. Do we still give them time if we are bottom in 2 months, 6 months or if we are relegated?
As I said I wouldn’t want Nigel to be lost to the club but a manager lives and dies by results which unfortunatley he isn’t getting. It may be that Nigel becomes Head Coach and we bring in a Director of Football rather than demoting him to assistant but either way I do feel change is now required.
However I don’t see the point in replacing Nigel with someone like Gary Lowe who we were after in the summer. The only people I feel could make a positive impact and work with Nige are the people I mentioned before.
Once again this isn’t a slight on Nigel as I think he is a fantastic bloke and there is no doubt in my mind that he has given 110% to this job but I do think he needs help to steer the team in the right direction before we end up sinking without a trace!

how much time dos nige need
hes had plenty of it and still nothing to show from it
his time is up
good coach yes but has no managerial talants im afraid
i know who id select as manager who else than someone that is loved by the team and loves the team back
who else than someone who isnt scared of opening his mouth and throwing orders at the team

Posts suggesting that we should be looking to replace the manager at the moment are ridiculous.
-
We have played 13 games
-
We are 10 weeks into the season
-
We retained only two players from last year
-
We have a new manager (appointed after considerable consideration by the board and speaking to other candidates).
-
We have a new chairman.
-
Of the games played 7 have been away, Guiseley, Buxton, Hednesford, FCUM and Nantwich were all difficult places to go.
-
Expectancy levels are too high
-
Our captain has missed half the games through injury
-
Our only other retained player from last season has been missing due to his work and therefore had a stop/start beginning to the season.
-
We don’t have a pot of cash!
-
We are going to have to ‘coach’ our way out of this situation as our financial position will not necessarily allow us to bring in expensive proven players.
-
Look at what happened to Newcastle when they sacked Allardyce and Spurs when they sacked Jol, both teams looking to move forward that are now holding up the table due to those bad decisions.
-
There is not a 13 as it might bring us more bad luck!
-
Questioning Nige’s position at the moment does nothing to support confidence within the management team and the players.
-
We are still experimenting and there are marginal signs of improvement in certain areas.
-
We need to be patient!!!
-
This is not looking at the situation through rose-tinted specs (and I share other peoples concerns as I want this club to succeed). It is a rational review of where we are up to!
-
If there is a time to look at the managerial situation it is the 1st Jan when we will have played 26 games, in other words twice as many as we have now!
-
I feel the same was as everyone else, this hurts at the moment, partly as we are not used to it in recent times. It angers me greatly that we are where we are and how much we have to improve.
-
Be Witton and Be Proud - support the club and the manager.

He wouldn’t take the job and if you speak to him on Saturday at the game he will tell you he is 100% behind Nige! That tells you all you need to know!

every one that watchs witton support the club rabbit
and what are the supporters getting out of it
we turn up every game knowing what the result is going to be we need changes
(or the support will go down which i have allready noticed it is doing)
Man to my own heart Rabbit!
Two excellent posts there from Rabbit & TT.
We have to show Nigel and the players that we are 100% behind them. They must use this website, it would definitely knock their confidence reading some of the negative comments on here !!!

You’re spot on, we need changes and right in saying that on the surface there is very little enjoyment from watching the games at the moment. I feel this every bit the same as you and everyone else. Saturday night and last night were miserable. Equally for the last two seasons we have had plenty of enjoyment.
Football fans are a fickle bunch, crowds always follow winning teams, it’s easy to support a club at the top of the table (and a damn site more enjoyable).
We have no divine right to win games and are having to take backward steps to make forward ones (thank the previous manager and chairman for that), they were the ones that allowed our assets (players) to walk out the door at the end of last season.
Sometimes being a supporter of a club does not always run smooth, ask any Spurs or Newcastle fan, or closer to home Buxton.
But one thing for certain is that there is no point in feeling sorry for ourselves and bemoaning the current situation. We have to climb out of this position and we have to inject some belief into our performances.
We have a lot of work to do and every bit of energy that we can give needs to be positive, something which at times feels very hard and unrewarding. For certain more negativity, pressure and rash decisions will not get us out of this situation. Clear, focused, positive plans and support will!
As fans we have to make that choice!
Yazzy97 nige doesnt look on here mate and i dont blame him.Not many positive things for him to take on board if he did is there not many managers would cope with what hes had to deal with they would have walked by now so that tells you something about this man he wants whats best for witton just as much as we do so get behind him like TT said get down the club on thurs night. sorry rant over
i dont see the argument for nige 2 stay 2 be honest what has he done to make people believe that he is the right person to get us out of this mess. We need a man with experience because this is gonna be a tough task. No time for sentiment in this game, if nothing happens it will soon become too late.
In my opinion, Wincham Rabbit and Thatched Tavern are the only people talking any sense on here. Managers need time to get results. The only manager that I can think of in recent times that got immediate results was Mourinhio at Chelsea, and that was because he had an inexhaustible pot of money to help him.
We lost so much over the summer. Our manager, our chairman, our bar staff, our playing staff (except Mr Witton, and the one and only lazy b*****d), Graham Edgeley, our cups, saucers, and glasses. We also lost a hell of a lot of money that we didn’t have.
For Nige to have done what he has done over the summer I am truly grateful to him. He has a limited budget to work with, which we hoped would be boosted through good runs in the FA Cup and Trophy, which obviously has not happened, and therefore can only sign players who are willing to play for a small amount of money, compared to most of the rest of the league.
Due to injuries, work commitments, suspensions, illness, and the like, we have not been consistent with our starting XI. Once this starts to settle down a bit more, the players will actually know their roles in the team properly, and will learn how they can play well with their teammates, and so will start to play better. If we get another manager in, their will be a massive overhaul of the playing staff but we will still have players of the same calibre, because the amount of money we can spend can only get you a certain type of player.
I therefore believe that Nigel needs much more time and that we, the fans, need to stick behind him, and the players, because if we start shouting abuse at them, that is going to make them not care. We need to encourage and support them. That is the only way we are going to get out of this.
One last point, those of you who think it is time for Nigel to go, or want to know how we are going to get out of this, go tomorrow night, and pose your questions to Nigel in person. He is the only one who knows how these things are going to change.
What a bunch of whingeing, dummy spitting, cry babies. Get yourselves to the INFO MEETING on THURS and put your point of views forward if u have got the BOTTLE.
Wear the colours with pride through thick and thin and support the manager, his staff and the players. There are people working their b*llocks off for sweet FA and they deserve all the support we can give them.
You are right Danny, not about ‘sentiment’, it about rational reactions and decision making. ‘Too late’ for what?
You don’t rebuild a football club on and off the pitch in a 10 week period when the administration is voluntary and the playing staff semi-pro!
Nige has loyalty, commitment and energy which at the moment we need a plentiful supply of. He also has the coaching ability that we need.
Newcastle and Spurs are THE example of what happens when you make a knee-jerk reaction and scak your manager.
