Thing is we have played 4-5-1 a lot recently and gained good results. Tuck is one of my favourite players but Fozzie suits 4-5-1 more so than Tuck. I seem to remember us playing 4-4-2 when we had a bad run of results and the change to 4-5-1 worked. I go with what Pritch decides as he knows what he is doing, he got us up last year and will i believe get us into the playoffs this year.
Also the game could have been very different had fozzie put in the one on one in first half and put us 1 up… (not a critism, as Fozzie is class just an observation on how the game might have gone had that gone in! - think they went and scored soon after) Just didn’t go our way today but am very pleased with our season so far.
Also fairplay to Nantwich as they deserved their win today. Witton fans were also great today. UTA
I agree that fossie is the best lone striker, but neither Sheehan or shaw have done well in that position behind him and I think we have won games playing it but would probably have won them playing 4 4 2 as well, most fans were unhappy with tuck not starting of ours we are having a good season and pritch is the man and has my support but in most opinion he got it wrong today and it was not helped by having our best attacking full backs out who help our game when playing 4 5 1 without them we were poor in attacks and 4 4 2 would have been better I think, I don’t know I’m so bothered cause I’m not even sure we are ready to go up yet but agreed another good season overall. UTA.
Well it is certainly a good talking point, possibly because of injuries to our regular full backs Pritch wanted to play an extra midfielder rather than 2 strikers to keep it solid. Also a new centre half coming in aswell who had an ok game i thought after a few dodgy touches early on.
I think our regular full backs give us something different to the two we started with today but what can you do when they aren’t fit? We have to adapt our shape according to who we have available.
I don’t want to go into the whys, whats and maybes of the advantages and disadvantages to different shapes/players etc as we know other teams come on here to scout :stop however it is fair to say that everyone needs to be on top of their game from now till the end of the season, including the fans!!
Had this game been earlier in the season we’d have probably accepted the result, even the performance. However, as it’s happened on 1 April it feels worse - added to the fact that the others had decent results.
As ME says it’s important to continue to support the team for the rest of the season and get behind the players in the last 7 games.
Still no valid reason as to why Tuck didn’t start?? I would have settled for mid table or even staying in this league at the start of the season however being in the position we are I thought playing a team near the bottom with only a few home wins we would have gone for the throat today. Am keeping the faith but we are running out of games to get points on the board with a few toughies coming up. UTA
On a side note I couldn’t make the game today but listened to local radio ‘commentary’. I can only describe it as biased, one eyed and bloody awful. The two muppets couldn’t get any witton players names right, spent half the time talking about the fact that Foz has grey hair and just generally made an absolute twit of themselves.
Nearly as bad as sitting listening to the clown from Stafford the other day. Questioned the ref on every decision made against Stafford but as soon as they did anything wrong he has defending them.
Firstly, we have been playing 4 5 1 with Tuck off the bench for months, and have been winning.
Secondly, as Tuck has been struggling with his fitness for weeks, it doesn’t take a footballing genius to work out that 2 games in 3 days is going to be tough going for him.
As Mookie says; 6th on GD in April. We would have all taken that back in August. So maybe Pritch knows his players better than we do.
Robbo, nice try but if you saw tuck on Saturday you would have played him yesterday, and I will guarantee he wanted to start he was warming up like a good un, yes we are happy with where we are and with pritch but no one can understand this to be honest and it’s not just me it was nearly everyone who saw both games, go on I’ll say it jo shaw has not done enough to justify keeping tuck out of the team no where near enough.
There’s no getting away from the fact that we were awful yesterday. We must pick ourselves up quickly now though, as yesterday’s result makes the FCUM game absolutely MASSIVE.
I can understand both arguments regarding striker selection, Tuck was fantastic on Saturday but there is no doubt that Fozzie is superior as a lone striker, as his hold-up play is fantastic.
It was my first visit to the Weaver Stadium yesterday and I must say I’m not impressed at all. The ground is far too open and as a result lacks any sort of atmosphere. Good support though, I’d say out of the 388 crowd a good 150 were Wittoners
