Just an observation on my part. At a time when the team is struggling and the main aspect is scoring goals, I wondered if the club had considered having a look at Mark Battersby from Atherton Collieries. I know he’s playing at a lower level but at this stage of the season to have scored 43 goals in any level is quite an achievement. Surviving or not at the end of the season could come down to goal difference or even goals scored.
Mentioned him to Pritch a few years ago when he was at Glossop my friend was raving about him so thought he was worth a look then ! but he did end up having a knee op. quick striker with an eye for a goal, maybe what we need - we also need an established midfielder better than Joe Shaw who can give us some bite and also some cover in define so we don’t fall apart when we lose one player, so IMO we need at least 3 players, note yesterday we only had 4 on the bench again our squad is paper thin, we are in the mix again and other clubs are reacting eg new mgr at Nantwich, Marine signing players and Matlock signed players and gaining points, we have to do something and soon, I hoped your post was going to say we had made some signings !
What I can’t understand is letting Henders leave? When Rainford was scoring all his goals and pulling us out of the crap, he had Henders up top with him doing all his running into the channels leaving Rainford to play on the shoulder of the last defender, but just recently the goals have dried up for Rainford as he is now having to run the channels etc, just my opinion but seems we have sacrificed Rainford here?
I guess since Titch got fit Henders has been left out and we probably had little choice in him leaving because he wants to play, coupled with the strikers not scoring we have a midfield 3 not playing well and without Shaw injured with Ben leaving we do not look solid at the back- dont like Zak at the back at all ! So 2-3 little issues and from looking like we were getting somewhere we seem back to square 1 again, I really think we should have done more to keep him and Ben and I bet we would be 6-9 points better than we are now.
I notice that Battersby had also been playing at Salford City and then got a move to Stockport County twelve months ago, which obviously didn’t work out for him and it might not be the answer for us but surely he’s worth considering.
Titch has played? For me personally I would like to see us go back to 4-4-2 I think that 4-5-1 served us well in steadying the ship, but I feel with a new central midfielder alongside Clark we have the players to attack games with 4-4-2. All opinions isn’t it though, for me Corbett is a hard worker but little else.
As I’ve only seen us once this season and that was on a good day, I don’t feel in a position to judge or comment but results and particularly the number of goals conceded must be of great concern to all of us.
It is surprising how many we are conceding especially with the way we are set out, we have a massive hole in our midfield at the moment.
Four new signings, three strikers and a midfielder so the team sheet and formation should make for interesting reading this afternoon!
Formation 2-3-5 anyone ?
