This was a disappointing performance from Ferriby who struggled to make any real impact on the Witton defence.

Strikers Luke Hinsley and Jordan Harrison had little to work-on up-front as The Villagers’ midfield struggled to get any real control in midfield.

Witton were often quicker to the ball and stronger in the challenge throughout the game and certainly carried more goal threat than Ferriby.

Ferriby only one managed on-target effort during the game, a James Piercy header that was cleared off or just in front of the line after 40 minutes.

The first-half was scrappy but the visitors were certainly the better team and deserved to be ahead.

The game was virtually decided by half-time with Witton three goals ahead.

The first goal was a controversial penalty when Ben Leyland was adjudged to have fouled Matty Devine. James Foley sent Lewis Exall the wrong way from the spot to score.

The decision deflated Ferriby and Witton upped the pressure. Danny McKenna, on the right, and Foley on the left created problems for Ferriby’s defence and midfield.

The second goal came from Ferriby giving the ball away in midfield and Billy Smart was allowed to slide the ball past Exall.

Ferriby were failing to win second-phase ball and their passing was often careless.

The third goal when Foley hammered-in McKenna’s cross from the right.

Ferriby started the second-half more brightly but Witton scored a fourth somewhat against the run-of-play. McKenna broke down the right and Smart glanced a header home.

That really finished the game as far as Ferriby were concerned. They battled hard but still made little headway against a solid Witton defence and midfield.
Ferriby’s greatest downfall was the poor quality of passing in the final third and with crosses from out wide or dead-ball situations. Too many crosses were just cut-out easily by Witton who were then able to break quickly.

Witton substitute Delial Brewster should have added a fifth but slid the ball past both the advancing Exall and the post.

The game became rather aimless in the last 10 minutes with the result decided.

Witton clearly deserved the win and the scoreline did not really flatter them They showed Ferriby how to finish in front of goal.

There was no comment from Manager Chris Bolder after the game.
