North Ferriby v Witton

is this not the same thing we did last year?

We just weren’t good enough.

Devastated.

Yep,just like last year when we couldn’t beat bottom of the table Grantham.Score 4-4.
Yes,this game Against North Ferriby may haunt us for some time.
De ja vu or what.

It’s not over yet.

Keep the faith, ignore the Cods and let’s see…

The darkest light comes just before the dawn.

Gutted after yesterday, dont think it could have been any worse a day for a Witton fan with Fleetwoods and Vics results. But we can always hope Leek do us a favour and this time next week we could be feeling totally different. Fleetwood get a draw at Leek and beat Frickley and we beat Worksop,it could happen and win it by a point! The point yesterday could still be important. Still had a good day and excellent support more Wittoners than Ferriby fans!

Nothing like.

Somehow we’ve contrived to mess it up again and I’ve no idea how! Ferriby were terrible and somehow we were worse. Lets make no bones about it we’ve nearly thrown this away but it’s NOT over yet.

What an extraordinary team of players we have at Witton.

The bigger the game, the more precisely they know what they have to do, the less interested they seem. Inexplicable. If only you could get inside the head of any of the players and find out what strange thoughts are going through it during a match like this.

Just like the end of last season, when, if you had to bank on a team to win to save your life, you’d have put all your money on Burscough, this year you’d put it on Fleetwood.

The championship wasn’t lost (if it is to be lost) yesterday. It was lost against Fleetwood a few weeks ago when we had 11 men on the pitch who made it obvious to all and sundry that they’d rather be out shopping with their wives. All we needed was a draw. Even a loss would have been okay if the players had looked like they were bothered.

I fear for us in the playoffs.

Deep down I know it is all over. Fleetwood will win their last two games and we will probably lose our last game anyway. I can only see us losing to Gateshead if we get to the final play off match. God, I do hope Mr. Vince and his players don’t feel as “down” as I do at present otherwise it really is all over. I wish I could be positive but I have seen Witton throw so many chances away in the past to feel even the slightest bit positive. I even feel that if Leek do us a favour we will still contrive to chuck it away by failing to win our last game. I AM DEPRESSED!!!
WHS.

What it is crucial to remember now is that we have the best home record in the league and we can get promoted at home through the play offs if that is what it comes to. We have been brilliant at home this season except against Fleetwood who played excellently on the day.
Got to still believe we can go up! We can definitely do it at Wincham Park!!

The “good home form” theory is our best hope now of going up in the playoffs, but contrast that with the team’s tendency to implode spectacularly in matches of importance. If Gateshead or any other team we play in the playoffs bring any kind of noisy crowd with them then we’re in trouble.

WHS, players should feel “down” when they know they have given it their best shot at crucial times and couldn’t have done any more. I’ll leave it to you to decide whether they should be feeling down.

Is ‘Billywho’ short for ‘Billywhoknowsjackshit’?

To suggest the players have not tried is ridiculous. Yes i’m sure they have played 39 games just for the hell of it and are quite happy to potentially fall at the final hurdle - come on, get real!! They have been more than good enough to have won this league in pretty much any other season. Instead of getting on the players backs then how about we just realise that Fleetwood have been excellent challengers, and give them the credit that they deserve.

We’ve had a handful of bad games, and unfortunately our opponents have taken full advantage. We’ve lost 4 (FOUR) league games all season, and only 1 (ONE) at home. That is excellent.

A few players weren’t good enough yesterday, and although i wouldn’t normally single any individuals out i would say that Peers has not had the best of games - HOWEVER, to his eternal credit he never gave up yestreday, he didn’t go hiding and he always went looking for the ball. To suggest that he had a bad game due to lack of will, desire, determination, or effort is completely wide of the mark.

Anyway, we should save the post mortems until Tuesday night at the earliest.

Are you a Fleetwood or Vics fan Billywho?!

To say the players didn’t try and didn’t give it their best shot yesterday is a very big statement to make. Do you really think that the lads out there who have now played 39 league games are not going to be bothered about the result?! I think that is a huge insult to the team, that for the most part of the season have played great football and are top of the league with 1 week of the season left. Yes Fleetwood have a game in hand but at this stage of the season, anything can happen. Sometimes things don’t go right, and I’m as gutted as anyone about yesterday but that’s football. We, as a club have to dust ourselves down and get ready for Worksop. We’re going to go into the last game of the season being able to win the championship for the second year running, maybe it should have been sewn up by now but to be there at the top again takes a lot of character after the disappointment of last season. We can talk all day about what we should have done better, that missed chance, that mistake etc but nothing can be changed now! A week is a long time in football, lets hope Leek do us a favour on Tuesday and lets bring the title home on Saturday!

It’s a real sickener, even Neil couldn’t be upbeat about our chances now, but lets remember, every time Fleetwood have had the chance to take the initiative this season they’ve bottled it, and I’m damn sure the same is going to happen Tuesday. If I was a Fleetwood player I would be dreading the prospect of a cold, wet Tuesday night at Leek, knowing full well that the league will be putting the officials under an enormous amount of pressure to play the game, despite the conditions of the pitch, because they have no alternative!!!

We are on 89 points with a game to go, Burscough won it on 80 last season. Shows how well the team has done this season, been a great effort and we deserve to go up.

Can’t believe anyone is having a go at the team after the season we’ve had - an away draw at a nasty team does not count as ‘bottling it’ in my book - if you won all your homes and drew all your aways you’d go up.

Jim has done an amazing job in the last two seasons, and whatever happens between now and Saturday, I’ll be proud of what the team has acheived this season, proud to have Jim as manager, and fully confident we will beat anyone we come up against in the playoffs.

Bring it on!

It seemed to me yesterday that the supporters more than the team expected North Ferriby to roll over and allow us to win the Game. Just Like Lincoln there was a carnival atmosphere with friendly banter and loads of balloons.
Tough games at Fleetwood,Gateshead, Marine and Guisley were not ‘bottled’. The team did not just give Lincoln, Prescot and Eastwood their wins. The manager has admitted that he got the tactics totally wrong in the Fleetwood game.
We have no divine right to expect the team to walk on the pitch and wipe the floor with the opposition. Ferriby defended well in the second half and what would you do if you were playing, looked up and saw nine men camped on their 18 yard line? If the players had kept shooting and missing we would have been telling them to “cross the bloody thing!”
We are all frustrated, but its not over yet. Keep the faith

and there were 2 fewer games played last year!!!

The one thing that is keeping me going at the moment is that the Leek fans are making all of the right noises! Fair play to them, they want to get something from the Cods for their own survival obviously but also to help us win the league. Come on Leek Town!

Agree with you lawrence, Jim and the team have done brilliant this season. What ever happens on saturday lets show them our appreciation. Will be up myself this saturday.
