Wincham Park hosted it’s first competitive match 25 years ago this month. For the life of me I can’t remember who it was against.
Over to you Chad.
Happy to refresh your memory bank A.

Reg Hardingham has come across some programmes from this season, including this particular match.
Could well be prepared to part with them, for a reasonable offer of course
Ahhh Lodgy one of me all time Albion favourites bowdown
Liked lodgy as well and mark Edwards who scored some spectacular goals, where do the years go.
When we signed Mark Edwards at the CG I remember thinking at the time he was something special and that he could take us to another level. He did just that. Alongside Karl Thomas and Tommy Lloyd, Eddie is my all time fave Witton striker. Also remember Lodgy running on the pitch in his suit in the Trophy semi-final at WP
Blimey where have those 25 years gone? Seems like yesterday
Mark Edwards was one of my favourite all time Witton players, wonderful centre forward with an excellent eye for goal, however its got to be Mark Fielding or Andy Grimshaw for my favourite player, remember Mark scoring an absolute stunner in a cup tie early 80’s at Nantwich which as a seven or eight year old, certainly stuck in the memory,
I remember mark fielding for flattening flying wingers more than scoring, a great lad and good fun to be around, played a bit like Gards one of my current favourites.
Mark Fielding was just before my time but I remember a lot of wittoners saying what a great player he was. Grimmy was probably the player I would always have first on a team sheet in any witton team I’ve ever seen as he was a central midfielder that had everything, good passer, scored a few and don’t ever recall him not winning a 50/50.
But my favourite ever player for the Albs, along with a lot of others at the time I think, was Killer. Not the most gifted by any means but just because, he was Killer!
Pleased to see that a few good Wittoners have added their personal memories of around this time.
As you know we have had “Albion Greats” events to place the photos on the wall. Some of the players from this era are already there but what I’ve already set in motion is to honour some more personnel from the period when Stan Allan came to the club in the mid 80’s leading up to his team winning the NPL title in 1991.
Thus embracing the 25th anniversary of the Albs moving from the Central Ground to Wincham Park.
The lack of available home Saturday match days coupled with my own availability is proving to be a real thorn however I’ve decided to save any further delay to go for Saturday October 25th. We are due to host Grantham Town but as it’s also the date of the FA Cup final qualifying round then I’m sure we’d all love to have a home tie instead.
Hoping to have around 15 players/management there, with already a couple of players coming up from “down south” where they now live, ironically not far away from each other.
I’ve set aside December 13th, as a contingency date, just in case the Albion are away.
Well I’ll be like a kid at xmas waiting for this event, I feel very privileged to have seen stans teams from the mid 80’s and the early days at WP. What a fantastic manager he was, I wasn’t sure i’d see any/many of my hero’s from back in the day again. What a great way to celebrate 25 years at WP - this will be one brilliant night, bravo Chad :clap
PS - intrigued by the “down south” clue? Anyway see ya’s tomorrow here’s to a great season with a flying start B) UTA!
