An excellent result, well done all am very proud of you. The draw has been unkind to us with a very tough draw in the next round but maybe being the underdogs will suit us in the cup this year! come on the Albion we really do deserve a little run in this.
When was the last time we scored 6 in the FA Cup? I remember us scoring 7 away to Alvechurch in 1990, we went on to play Bolton that year… an Omen? lets hope so.
Good result today, the players took their goals well and what I liked was the way the team is playing as a unit rather than a group of individuals. The wittoners seemed to enjoy the game and the weather was kind to us all, but lets not get to carried away. Osset were poor and I mean poor some of their players seemed content to want to fight and moan their way through the game and the referee did little to stop it. Unless they improve alot they will be around the bottom of the league all season, but to score 6 in any game is an achievement. Congratulations to Liam on his hat trick. Are we capable of a good run in the FA cup? Yeah why not. Marine are no great shakes and as Churchill said after El Alamein “its not the end, its not even the beginning of the end, but its the end of the beginning”…SBL
Great team performance from start to finish. You can really see the positive impact that Pritch and Mose have had on the team. Plenty of desire and some real quality when going forward. Great performances from titch and Danny Andrews especially and a great way for Liam to get off the mark! We’ve shown we can beat some of the lesser teams, the big test will be when we next come up against one of the better sides again…
Fair comment if the opposition were poor but there’s been too many occasions in the past when Witton have failed to capitalise when dominating lower placed teams.
Marine are only 10th in the league above us. We can do it!
I was at both matches god it shows me age!!
The pleasing thing about the Ossett game is our management team learnt from the 1st half that it was no good planting the ball 8 foot up in the air with their big centre backs so second half we played the ball on the deck and murdered them!! It could have been 12 nil but for a few missed chances and the Ossett goalkeeper being in fine form.
On the Northwich game I’m sure we went a goal down then a certain Sir Ken Barnes got hold of the game and ran it from there on in. I remember his goal a floating swerving free kick from just outside the area into the top corner absolute class!!
Ken certainly in my top 5 players I’ve ever had the privilage of seeing live in a game. The other 4 Tom Finney, Johnnie Haynes, Stan Matthews, Alf Ashley. All memorable for different reasons but my hero was and still is Sir Tom Finney a complete gentleman and so modest considering he’d be worth mega millions if playing now, yet his biggest pay packet was £20 quid one week in 1964 when Preston got to the FA cup final v West Ham.
As for Sir Ken Barnes what can I say that hasn’t been said already a complete football genius and up there with Sir Alf Ashley in Wittons best 10 ever players!! Alf another hero in the Tom Finney mould!!
Sorry to go on but happy memories for me especially that day at the Drillfield!!
My recollection is that V*cs only scored their goal late on through Paul Dobell, when we were 6-0 up, and that our goalscorers were Bill Tynan (2), Fred Taberner (3) and Jimmy McDonald. Ken Barnes may have run the game, but I don’t remember him scoring, at least not that day. Anyway, it was a memorable thrashing, one of my all time best football memories!
And surely Tom Finney didn’t play in the 1964 Cup Final, didn’t he retire in 1960? I think a very young Howard Kendall played for PNE that day though.
