Ossett Town vs Witton Albion

What a downer of a day, firstly stopped for speeding leaving work for the match, then car gave up the ghost on the M62, waited 2 hours for AA, then a further 2 and a half hours for a breakdown truck. Managed to get access to the website and we were 2 up I thought the day was getting better then it changed again. Cant believe that score line, cant wait to hear the reports from those lucky enough to have made the game. BUMMER!!!

Stu

Just got back absolutely gutted.

Looked good first half played the ball around well on a bad pitch, but let in a poor goal before the break. Second half to be honest we just fell apart. Lost most 50-50 balls/challenges and never competed and thats why we lost. The team worked hard and were as gutted as the fans to have lost the game, we need get back up beat Congleton and get them much needed 3 points on Saturday.

I also thought GF new signings played well and looked good players. But by the time we play Worksop Iā€™m sure we will see a lot more new faces. Remember todayā€™s line up was still Nigelā€™s team so Iā€™m sure we are going to see a few changes.

Last comment to Ross who looked distraught going off at FT, Ross donā€™t blame yourself today mate, just keep going everyone makes mistakes just learn and move on.

Gary Finleyā€™s Red N White Army

Good first half, up until the Ossett goal, apalling second half. We scored 2 good goals, both from wide balls into the box. If I remember rightly, the first came from a free kick, wide on the left, played into the box, and Thompson rose unmarked to head it home. The second came when Thacker laid the ball back to Scott, wide on the right, who crossed it in for Smyth to volley in.
Poor defending for all four of Ossettā€™s goals, and thats about all you can say about them. We didnā€™t challenge for the ball enough in the second half, and were poor in attack as well as defence.
Both of the new guys, Olsen and Smyth, looked good I thought, and there was definitely more edge to our attacks, but the defence is far too weak, and we really need to improve it if we want to stay up this season.
It is clear to me now that it is not the fault of either manager that we are bottom of the league, purely the players.

well just home ā€¦ what can i say ā€¦ Gutted!

good first half but dunno what happened second half dreadful!!

agree with ste_ on his comments on Ross Thacker he looked devastatedā€¦

highlight of the afternoon ā€¦ meeting TT hahahahaha :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Fair play to Ross for apologising but I think he had every need to! He was at fault for 2 of the 4 goals today. Donā€™t really know what happened, 2 nil up and coasting and ended up losing. Some wholesale changes need to be made but we knew that already. We need players all over the park but to be fair, the new players looked decent. Onwards and upwards I hope but I really fear for us at the moment

What did happen? from 2 nil up to the final score, we must have been doing something right to begin with, so what whent so wrong? Greg 7 says we need players all over, but apart from FCUM we havnt conceided 4 this season, and we have played some top teams, so what happened today against a ā€œpoorerā€ team?
I hope Ross picks his head up because I think he is going to proove a great player for us, given the chance.

Stu.

Not a bad first half, thought we started the game with real promise. As usual things went downhill from there.

I just feel that the players have got to stand up and be counted as they still don;t seem to be showing the commitment or desire that has to be shown to wear a Witton shirt.

The players let Nigel down big time and I thought today they would have the opportunity to pull their fingers out, but I am afraid that the same few players, as normal, were bailing us out again. Some donā€™t deserve to stay, I hope Gary will have a clear out and get some players with passion.

Shame for Ross Thacker, he is a good player and an asset to our team, he was defending too much when he should be up field.

Keep the Faith !

I suppose we will have to wait now while the new manager builds his own team by which time we could be well out of sight of the teams above us. It was better first half but second half Ossett sussed us out and we never created one chance. I like Ross Thacker but playing him and the new boy Smyth in the same team was suicidal. Ross spent all the second half chasing the Ossett left full-back and Smyth just dissappeared from the game. We were too slow at the back and up front and when Willis came on with the white flag it was " time to start the car ".

Keep the Faith !

Was there any improvement in the attitude of the players today? cos I know if I were playing for a new gaffer, especially one with the reputation Garys got I would have played my nether regions off, just to impress. I really thought we would have got the three points today, but it just adds more importance to the Worksop game, and Bradford PA are not unbeatable. If results go in our favour we could all have a nice christmas, and if I win the lottery! Sorry theres no Emoticons for dreaming.
Come on witton.

i remember the 2nd game to the end of the season against north ferriby,we played awful and drew 1-1 and we wa moaning,it just goes to show how are standards hav dropped since last season

KTF

i cant even comment on how we played due to the amount of alcohol that i was intoxicated with along with others yesterday, so best just say errā€¦keep the faith?

WE are now bottom of the league so I can safely say. without fear of contradiction, ā€œTHE ONLY WAY IS UP.ā€

OSSETT TOWN 4 WITTON ALBION 2 Att. 190

Team: Smith G.; Scott (Schwarz 55), Pritchard, Brockley, Donnelly; Thaker (Skelton 63), Olsen, Drew (Willis 77), Smyth; Thompson & Thornley R.

For their first match back at Witton Albion, Manager Gary Finley and his Assistant Lee Coathup paraded both their two new players - Jamie Olsen (ex Burscough) and Mark Smyth (ex Leigh Genesis) and both certainly played their part as Albion surged into a two goal lead just after the half-hour mark.

In the 5th minute a Smyth corner kick was headed over the bar by Mark Drew. Encouraged by getting on for 50% of the crowd Witton took the lead in the 19th minute. Lee Thompson was fouled close to the left touchline, Olsen produced the perfect free-kick for LEE THOMPSON to head powerfully home from a central position. The clouds that had descended over the past few weeks seemed to have been eradicated as passes found team-mates and the forward play stretched the opposing defenders and it was no surprise when the lead was doubled.

Far too often in previous matches throw-ins had been wasted but in the 32nd minute Gary Scott threw the ball to Ross Thaker, he in turn took the attention of two markers before laying the ball back to Scott who struck a majestic ball into the danger zone for MARK SMYTH to quickly seize the opportunity to strike the ball past a flatfooted John Lamb.

The affect on the Town team at the basement of the league was clearly visible and it just seemed like a matter of time before Witton went further ahead, Rod Thornley getting closest. Then two minutes before the interval keeper Lamb launched a long kick downfield, Aiden Savory outstripped Steve Brockley, drew Greg Smith before going to his right and slotting the ball home.

Four minutes into the second half the scores were levelled in somewhat bizarre circumstances, Thaker was fully exposed as last man near to the right touch-line, he chose to play the ball back to Smith but under-hit the back pass, the keeper came out of the area but in trying to rescue the situation only succeeded in kicking the ball a few yards straight to Rob Oā€™Brien who took full advantage to lob the ball into the unguarded net. Ironically minutes later Scott left the action with a groin injury that heā€™d been feeling prior to Thakerā€™s misdemeanour!

A fully rejuvenated Town took over and Smith was called upon to produce several saves to keep the marauders at bay. On the hour mark though his team were back in familiar territory, chasing the match. Andy Lee, whom Finley had signed for Albion previous, struck a shot from point blank range that Smith somehow parried only for Lee to quickly follow up to net.

With ten minutes remaining substitute Dan Skelton produced the only noteworthy attempt of the half for the visitors when his headed effort was caught by Lamb. Three minutes later though any chance of taking anything from the match disappeared when Andy Leeā€™s low drive from the left bounced awkwardly just in front of Smith to evade the keeper.

Ten straight league defeats now sees Witton anchored at the bottom of the league, for the first time in eleven seasons, with next Saturdayā€™s home match result, against fellow strugglers Worksop Town, being absolutely crucial as they attempt to kick-start their campaign.

Good report Chad but I think it was Pritch who Aiden Savory outstripped before slotting the ball past Greg Smith.
