Have just come across this article from the Northwich Guardian of May 6th 1932.
HEADLINE: "VICS AND ALBIONS TO AMALGAMTE? NORTHWICH MOVE IN THE MATTER"
"Much has been said during the past few years about the amalgamation of Northwich Victoria and Witton Albion, with a view to securing for the town a better class of football and making it a paying proposition, but the matter has never approached anything like fruition.
Northwich Victoria for some time have been burdened with a debt which has proved irksome and the failure of the team during the season just ended has not tended to its reduction. Various appeals for financial assistance have only met with a moderate response, owing to unemployment, the bad state of trade and other reasons and the immediate future does not appear to hold any hope.
Realising this the directors have asked themselves "Can football be made to pay in the town?" and the opinions of some are generally known. The matter was brought up at the weekly meeing on Monday night and we understand the amalgamation with Witton was muted. It was revolved to write to the Albions to ask if they were prepared to meet them to consider the future of football in the town."
Previous mergers talk had also occurred in 1897, 1921 and 1929 however the move above saw firm detailed proposals submitted to special members meetings at both clubs. They were virtually totally rejected - 48-13 at Witton & 56-16 at Northwich.
