Stafford Rangers vs Witton Albion

ME and GE just too many positives mooney

First of all, let’s hope Dave Walker isn’t badly injured. After his lay off that would be very cruel.

As for the game - it is nice, for a change to grab a point rather than give it away late on. Also Powell and Andrews were among the best of a poor lot, so it was fitting that they combined for the 2nd. What was deeply worrying was the lack of fight and passion in the 2nd half, particularly among some of the young players in midfield. This factor, added to their poor passing made the game a miserable experience for the fans.

How a team that dominates against the league leaders can turn in a performance like that escapes me. Admittedly, the pitch was poor, but all the same, as a team performance, NOT GOOD ENOUGH. We must improve or the games in hand will count for nothing.

That has to be the worst game of football I have EVER seen!!! The quality of a pub team and the attitude to match. Absolutely disgusted by it

I said after last years game at Stafford it was one of the worst football expecerience watching Witton it was nil nil and if I’m honest today’s game didnt deserve 4 goals. Agree totally with ME and GE and on social media there’s a load of stuff about people booing the team!(shock horror whatever next racist tweets!) for the record I didn’t boo the team today but I wouldn’t criticise anyone who did. The performance in a game of that magnitude was woeful and anyone who thinks otherwise is dillusional. There’s still a lot to play for but we can’t possibly hope to stay up putting in a performance like that - and paying a tenner for the privilege!

Wow, that was bad wasn’t it and for the record I totally agree with any criticism that was shouted because to put it bluntly, that was f**king awful!!! Players going through the motions and some just not good enough, but today was today and Tuesday is another game.

Still think we can do this, any news on Walker because it looked serious!

Well I’ll be the first to say it because today was as bad as I’ve seen for many a year, Time for a change at the top.

A change at the top? Please don’t say you mean the manager?

We had a bit of a dads and lads day today and from that perspective I enjoyed it. A short train journey, a couple of beers and a few laughs.

Less said about the performance the better. You can lose games 4-0 and cheer the team off the pitch (Barrow springs to mind, lost 4-1 and serenaded the lads off the pitch) but today was shocking from top to bottom. Every pass just seemed to be made with a vague hope that sombody more interested might get on the end of it.

Hopefully the lads recognise this because they are a good bunch, and put it right Tuesday. But today I felt pissed off to have paid £10 to watch that shite.

Im not surprised some fans booed at the final whistle and I don’t blame them. But before that turns into a massive issue, I would imagine all those who booed are Witton through and through and will be fully behind the lads on Tuesday. Its not a witchunt, just frustration at a woeful performance against a team we should be able to beat. Or should we?

Game is over, we all move on, and we all support the guys on Tuesday. If we lose 11-0 and put in the effort, i’ll clap them off the pitch.

Well the buck stops with me I pick the team and they are my players. Today’s performance was not acceptable and after recent performances I expected a lot more.
I apologise to all our fans and if I had it I would personally refund your money.
But we will keep going and that has to start Tuesday. The players are fully aware of what is expected and I fully understand the reactions of people. I know it’s hard after today but just keep supporting the players as much as you can.
Finally my thoughts are with Dave walker who has confirmed to me his ankle is broken.

Well in Pritch.

Nobody wants a refund, you do enough!

Everyone can have a bad day and if the players put in the effort on Tuesday then great. Im sure they’re as gutted as we are.

All the best to Dave Walker. Shocking luck for the lad.

UTA

There is nobody else I want to see in the managers chair apart from Pritch.
Witton is my team and thru thick and thin I will support the team, if we get relegated I will be back next season standing behind the goal in my lucky green coat!
UTA

I think today also showed that Anthony Gardner is wasted at left back. He is a right back - great going forward and a good defender. If he is being switched to left back to accommodate Ali Brown it isn’t working and the team is losing the benefit of a good partnership with Danny Andrews as a result.
You play your best players in their rightful positions. Gards needs to be at right back. If that means we need a better left back try and get one if Ali is not the answer. We’ve known this is a problem position since Wood left.

GE

No point trying to hide the fact that it was an awful performance against a side which was there for the taking. They were shocking.

Unfortunately for us they seemed prepared to battle when we obviously weren’t up for the fight.

I think for me that was the most disappointing part of yesterday, the palpable lack of a fight or of the will to do whatever it takes to get 3 points. One player put his body on the line, and the unfortunate Dave Walker has a broken ankle to show for his efforts - there really is no justice in the world.

The rest of the players should have a look at themselves, and they all owe Dave an apology. Had a few more players put that kind of effort in, then we would have been clear winners and there would have been no need for Dave to make that challenge (although knowing him, he probably would have made it even if we had been 3 or 4 up!!).

At 1 up we looked comfortable - I wouldn’t go as far to say we were playing well, but we certainly didn’t look in danger. Then within a few minutes we had had one of our usual sleepy spells, and found ourselves going in at the break 2 - 1 down. That the home fans were as shocked as us just shows how bad Stafford have been this season (at one point the Stafford supporters near us were singing “how sh*t must you be, we’re winning two one”).

That we got a late equaliser should be (and was) applauded. But here is a feeling that it papered over the cracks somewhat, and gave some of our fans a false sense of achievement.

So, after what most of us seem to agree was not just a poor performance, but more a performance without passion, commitment and desire, in a game of which the importance was surely drummed into the players all week, there were a few boos and dissenting voices at the final whistle - including my own.

And people are shocked by this?

If I was a player coming off that pitch at the final whistle yesterday to cheers and applause I would be utterly dumbfounded.

1 league win since November, a total of 7 points since December. 4th bottom in the league.

Yet we take over 100 fans to Stafford. How many teams sat near the top of this league take an away support like that to any game? How many would the other clubs in the bottom 4 bring to Wincham Park?

The WItton fans turned up yesterday and backed the team for 90 minutes, the least we could expect was a battle on the pitch to mirror that which goes on off it EVERY SINGLE WEEK just to ensure that the Club continues to run, and that wages are paid.

There was no personal abuse, there wasn’t a pro-longed demonstration against the manager or chairman which you see at so many other clubs. There were about 30 seconds of boos and not-good-enough-wittons.

The poor little lambs.

I’ll support this team and this club no matter what. I have seen us get relegated more often than I have seen us have success. I was there in the Southern League, and will be there regardless of where we are playing our football next season.

But I told the team I didn’t think they were good enough yesterday. And I will stand by that.

To then see on Facebook that the new breed of Super Massive Wittoners (entry criteria: the ability to get drunk and mindless on an away coach - the later doesn’t strictly need to be preceded by the former) are telling anybody who boo’d to "F**k off and watch Vics (the second time this season I can remember this particular suggestion being made), well it leaves you speechless in all honesty.

Then of course out comes the usual “these people are the reason Shaun Tuck isn’t at the club anymore, and that is why we will be relegated” line.

No; Shaun Tuck is the reason why Shaun Tuck is not at this football club anymore. Rather than constantly take your frustrations out on people who actually want this football club to succeed, it might actually be advisable to look at the facts.

Shaun Tuck broke the law and was arrested for it. The Club gave him a second chance, despite the reservations of some fans (myself included). Mark Harris even represented him in court.

Shaun Tuck came out of jail, and used social media to abuse FCUM fans less than 24 hours before we were due to go to Gigg Lane to face them. This was a breach of the terms the Club gave him when offering him the second chance.

The CLUB (not me or anybody else - believe me, I WISH I had that kind of power and influence!) then had no choice other than to cut ties.

There was a fans meeting of course before this decision was made. I went. Not many people did in all honesty. But not one person spoke out in support of Shaun Tuck (and there were people there who have spoke up in support of time plenty of times since). There were however people who made it clear that he had to leave the club. Nobody argued with them.

A few days later Tuck sat on Skem’s bench in a Skem tracksuit, whilst still being officially registered to Witton Albion Football Club. What a way to show respect to a club who has stood by you.

But of course, there is still the naïve belief amongst some people that he could save us from relegation single-handily. Incase anybody has missed it, we recently signed a striker from a football league club. If he can’t save us then i’m not sure what Shaun Tuck could do differently.

The fact is that Shaun Tuck does not play for this football club. Which in many ways is a shame. He wasn’t as good a player as he is being made out to be in his absence, but his commitment and workrate certainly could never be faulted. Unfortunately the only person responsible for him not being a Witton player now is Shaun himself, and nobody else (if you don’t believe me, then maybe ask the chairman or the manager. They will tell you that they made the decision, and not a ‘minority of do-gooders’).

It’s sickening to see fans turning on each other week in week out. It’s also ridiculously ironic to see a club who held themselves up as being a great ‘family club’ with a great togetherness (without doubt the single biggest reason we ha such success over the last 2 or 3 years) now doing it’s upmost to tear itself apart at the seams.

I’m starting to wonder what people actually want from Witton Albion these days? There are a lot of people working tirelessly to promote the Witton ‘brand’ (I hate that term, but in modern football it’s something we have to come to accept), by trying to engage the local community (Witton U15s won promotion yesterday btw, well done to all involved).

The benefits of this are clear to see. A raised profile means the club attracts more paying spectators, and gives us greater commercial opportunities. This results in greater revenue streams, which then leads to a better playing budget and progression on the pitch (all blindingly obvious I know, but some people do seem to struggle with the reality of this).

But what we seem to have is a section of our support who would rather criticise those of us who want to see Witton engage with the local community, when it should surely be the common goal? If we don’t actually want to see the club grow, then what the bloody hell are we all here for ever week?!

What I see right now is a group of Witton fans that seems to want to drive another group of Witton fans away from the club. And then moan and complain when this second group don’t come to certain games, or don’t attend social events. Time to get real; you cant tell people to “f**k off” but then be shocked when they actually do.

The attitude of you “you don’t share the same opinions as me therefore you are not as big a Wittoner as me” absolutely has to stop. People ARE being driven away from the Club, and the only thing that will suffer is the team.

You wont drive me away. This is my Dad’s club, and it was my Grandad’s club. So try your best but i’m going nowhere. There are plenty more like me who wont be pushed away, and we’ll be here next year in this league or the one below.

However, there are plenty of people who are newer to the club, who do have other interests and pastimes away from Witton. They CAN be pushed away, and if that is what certain people want, then hey keep on pushing.

1874 are only down the road, and I’m sure they will welcome new supporters with open arms. They seem to embrace community engagement and family values and are clearly reaping the rewards.

So don’t complain when Witton Albion are once again the town’s second club.

It’s time for a reality check people - we’re in this together, or we’re not in it at all.

UTA.

Oops - it was actually the U11s (our guests next Saturday).

:clap

Totally agree with every word!

I’m sure all Wittoners will wish Dave Walker all the best for a speedy recovery. The way he went in for that challenge when still not fully fit spoke volumes for his courage and will. Yes, he did show many other players up. I thought he was one of our big hopes to stay up, however, that was before Titch returned and he is still battling, although it didn’t go his way yesterday. You only had to witness his anger when he missed a chance to see how much it means to him.

It would be great to get a target man in to help him, and a couple of midfielders who can pass, but we know that things are tight and every team needs better players. What we can expect, (and demand!) I think, is a real response on Tuesday that hopefully shows the fans that all the team still have desire and will-to-win.

All we ask for from the players is something to cheer about. Show us some pride.

Quality B)

I think GE makes a great point about Gardner, had a similar conversation yesterday, doesn’t make sense to weaken our defence by losing imo the best right back in the league, to accommodate frankly a player who is not good enough imo, thought Sheehan deserves some praise he put more effort in the 15mins or so he was on the pitch than others did in 90.

Just need to start with 2 up front Tuesday and be more positive, we may go down but at least go down fighting

Everyone is aware that I am not Robbo’ s favourite person but we do have one BIG thing in common, a life-long love of Witton Albion FC. I agree with all he has said and I do believe if we get behind the team on Tuesday they will react positively and get us the three points we need. We are far from dead yet, ONWARDS AND UPWARDS!!!
WHS.

:clap

Yesterday saw fantastic away support with at least 100 Wittoners at Stafford, we all want the same thing, we all want to see Witton win, its frustrating when we dont perform to the standard we all know were capable of!
Yes I was annoyed to hear the boo’s and abuse at full time not because I thought we played well but because it doesn’t have a positive effect! The players didnt have a good game and they will know that, im sure Pritch told them so in the dressing room too!
I know in an ideal world every Witton supporter would be best friends with everyone else supporting the club, lets face it we cant all get on with work mates, neighbours and even family so what chance of 300 people all agreeing and getting on?!
All that matters is the team get our full support from now until the end of the season and with games coming every Saturday and Tuesday were gonna be seeing a lot of each other so personal insults to one side lets for 90 minutes get behind the lads

UTA

lots of bad things are said in the heat of the moment,so lets move on support the team as one.i still believe we’ll stay up.we may not have the best starting 11 but we have so much quality in our side :cheer:
