As we are playing 3 at the back I see no problem with Gards playing where he is. The system definitely works. As for Ben, he is a really nice lad and I hoped and wanted him to progress to a higher standard but for whatever reason it did not happen. He was our best player but we just have to get on now without him. Finally, I don’t know who persuaded him to go to Nantwich but it seems a daft decision to me, Nantwich are going nowhere at the moment. Perhaps they have a “Sugar Daddy” coming in?

Such a shame that some managers see loyalty as a negative thing

Let’s hope his board or his players aren’t too loyal to him eh!
A Stepping stone ! Nantwich Town ! Johnson get in the real world.
:stop
Alas, to think Nigel Deeley has burnt his bridges with WAFC
a stepping stone to 1066 of winsford.johnson is a prick, ben playing to crowds of 150-200 less everyweek is hardly a step up.he’s only managed teams that are in dire straits mooney
It can only be for more money. Why else would you take a step backwards to lowly Nantwich???
Nantwich Town have never been in the same league as our famous club and never will be. Shit club, no fans
As i understand it, the move isn’t money-related - and i heard he had actually taken a pay cut at Nantwich.
Its no secret that Ben was looking to move on for a while now, missing 3 deadlines to commit to the Club for this season and not wanting to sign a contract (if that doesn’t suggest that a player wants away then what does!).
A few clubs have put 7 days in for Ben over the season, and its no secret he actually spoke to Droylsden before signing for Nantwich.
It does surprise me that a player with such ability has stagnated over the last 2 seasons, and maybe the move to Nantwich will re-ignite Ben’s career. At 24 he does have time on his side, but not a lot of it.
So none of us should be hugely shocked that Ben has moved on. What is understandably a shock - and a HUGE disappointment - is how the news of him leaving was broken to the Club. You expect some players to move on without any regard for what they leave behind, but i don’t think any of us would have expected that in Ben’s case.
I wish him well with Nantwich, and hope that he does get the move he’s dreaming of once 1874 are promoted to the Evo Stik leagues at some point in the future (perhaps they will pass Nantwich on their way).
Two wins and two clean sheets since Ben left us.
Top lad, great player for us at times, and Ben and his family will be hugely missed at Witton Albion.
I think he will live to regret it, but Ben clearly felt he had to move on - and now Witton Albion moves on without him.
Robbo is as usual spot on.

The natural desire to speculate in order to exonerate is understandable but there are always two sides to every story. Cut Ben some slack after all he is party to the facts far more than this forum but he has rightly chosen to keep his counsel .This is to be expected of a thoroughly decent young man .And by the way how has Nige " burnt his bridges "? Sacked as manager in the post Vince fiasco and relieved of his duties several weeks ago ! Several years of great service for all parties in which all parties have been mostly good for each other.

LMAO tonight to see Aaron Burns is about to jump ship from Nantwich - perhaps he has been too loyal to them. mooney
This is now confirmed tonight. Aaron Burns has indeed signed for Chorley, he wasn’t on a contract so nothing Nantwich could do. I would be very concerned now for their survival because when you’re in a position of difficulty goalscoring becomes more important.
NANTWICH have tonight sacked Johnson
Ha Ha made me smile that !
Perhaps he was too loyal to them?
Maybe he was just using them as a stepping stone to bigger things?
I wonder what Ben thinks now ! I would like to see him back here- he looks good in red n white.
I believe Nige Deeley is in temporary charge
Nantwich have appointed former Nantwich & Witton midfielder Phil Parkinson as their new manager.
Nigel Deeley has now left NantwichTown.
Former Albion winger Iain Howard has also left Nantwich.
