Witton Albion v Fylde

Wow, 1-0 down after 7 mins, Sheehan gets an equaliser, Andrews misses a pen Gardner then makes it 2-1 to the Albs only for them to get a last min pen… which Coops saves!!!

Full time 2-1 to the mighty Albs

Witton Team:

Matt Cooper, Anthony Gardner, Matty Wood, Ben Harrison, Josh Glover, Olly James, Josh Hancock, Anthony Sheehan, Liam Newman, Alex Titchiner, Danny Andrews.

Subs: Mark Buchan, Dean Ennion, Jamie Harrison, Matt Woolley, Tom Schofield.

Subs used: Dean Ennion on for Olly James, Matt Woolley on for Josh Glover.

Magnificent squad performance.
To have 2 more injuries in the first half and still come from behind to win shows the resilience of these boys.
We deserved the wind assisted goal.
Fantastic penalty save by Coops right at the end. That’s definitely 2 points he’s responsible for!
By the look on Dave Challinor’s face as he had to restrain his no.6 from rising to the “overpaid” jibes as they left the pitch, money can’t always buy you happiness

A very good win in the circumstances without ever really hitting form, I guess the injuries and high pressure games takes it toll eventually but we battled and battled and deserved our win, mom a tough call between Coops for several important saves and Sheehan for sheer tenacity and drive plus a super goal, if we can beat teams around us with this amny injuries and not playoing too well then we have a really good chance of promotion this season. Well done everyone

A very boring first half turned into a pretty exciting second half. Full credit to the lads for getting the valuable 3 points.

No reason we can’t go on a run now, Got that little bit of luck with the second goal but i’m sure Gardener meant it?

Special mention to Matt Cooper, his penalty save at the end was world class, take a bow son!

First half not so good. Second was a battling performance which led to a well earned victory. The wind must have played a big part for both teams in different ways. Iv’e not looked at the league tables but I’m sure that it was a big 3 points. My MoM was Mr Sheehan. Never stopped battling and led by example but well done to all involved.

It wasn’t the best performance we’ve seen by the lads this season but certainly one of the best results.

The first half we struggled to get anything going really, we didn’t create many chances of note.
I think we would have all settled for a draw at half-time.

Second half was better, there was a bit more urgency to get the result we needed and credit to the team for holding on. Great save from Matt Cooper at the end, I had resigned myself to a draw.

Great turnout by the away fans, massive club.

The great thing about this team is that, for the spectator, you know they’re going to battle till the final whistle. At 0-1 and with the wind having a major effect on the game it was always probable we would get the equaliser.
Yes the winner was wind-assisted but Fylde didn’t make use of the wind in the first half with pressure. In fact I thought they were pretty ordinary throughout.
Poor penalty by Danny but excellent save by Coops for their penalty.

Over the years previous Witton teams would have settled for 1-1 and not had the bottle to steal the winner. A good three points, the other midweek results went for us and this Saturday sees some interesting fixtures at the top.

GE

How many times have we come from behind to win this season? Even at 2 down v Leek we went 3 - 2 up.

I can count on one hand how many times we had done this in the 5 years or so before this one. Infact i can probably count on 1 finger…

You’ve been practising then?

Yep, im in training to be a steward.

a truly battling second half performance after a poor first half. but that’s what you get with this squad, 110% effort and commitment. if only more fans would come and watch this very committed and talented young players take us to a higher level, which is no more than they deserve. come on witton.

Great win against one of the teams that will surely be up there at the end of the season.

Well done to the whole squad on this one!

Great win - come on guys another run in the offing. Difficult one up at Durham - gutted won’t be able to make yet another “home game” - Already missed Farsley and Garforth.
