Crack on sunshine, we have a nibble!!!
Two nibbles. That’s shocking Simon
A word to Andy Chad and Neil too for their efforts in getting a few youngsters down with their parents I saw quite a few around the ground and all seemed to be enjoying themselves especially when the winner went in! Yesterdays attendance of 470 has put our average up to 415 for the season so far (league) an increase of 62% on the first 12 games of last season, an incredible increase well done to all and lets keep pushing and moving this club in the right direction.
Yes they do deserve a mention that made a difference yesterday and hopefully the crowds will keep improving. An increase of 62% is outstanding.
Well done lads, yet another title-winning display! Pretty poor in the first half, but more than made up for that with a stirring effort, sparked by a great goal by Peersy, and finished off with an even better one by Alex, making a welcome return. Good crowd, great atmosphere, especially when the winner went in! I hope all the kids and their parents that attended will be back again next week - they ought to, when we serve up entertainment like that.
Ilkeston made life difficult for us, I would have liked to say that they deserved something from the game, but their near-constant fouling and time-wasting took that away, and I felt they got their just desserts.
Poor ref didn’t help either - the tackle on Brownhill was close enough to the line to make not giving a penalty just about forgivable, and the tackle itself, although it sounded bad, probably didn’t warrant a straight red, their full-ack’s reaction suggested that it was a careless tackle that went wrong, rather than an intentional dangerous one. Having said that, I thought the ref never controlled the game well.
Looks like the Codpieces had a similar game, coming from 1-0 down to win 2-1 quite late on. Ah well, we can’t influence their results, all we can do is keeping winning our own games. One step nearer to the finishing line!
Well said Picko, great effort with the juniors and overall a very good crowd for a fixture in the second week of January. We have to keep building as we have done, the job is never over. Well done Andy and Neil.
A great effort to get in 470 (Anyone else notice the papers and Ceefax only show 420?) The second half performance should bring folks back again, just a pity the kick off is early next week. That said Leek should bring some support and if past games are anything to go by next sat should be cracker too! So fingers crossed for another decent gate, decent game and dare we wish for 3 points given what Leek have done to us in recent years?
As for yesterday we had enough chances in the 2nd half to win the game comfortably and I was beginning to think it wasn’t going to happen for us - but this team are never beaten until the final whistle and that really shines through.
It’s a long way to come from Birmingham but I am so glad I bothered. First half we were poor but Ilkeston were excellent and no doubt a lot of teams will raise their games when playing top of the league. But the second half was tremendous, we could have scored several times before the winner and there was a great atmosphere. I agree with Macca - I think we would have lost or only drawn that game last year and getting the winner will help us ‘kick on’ win the league. See you at Hednesford - that’s a home match for me! Oh, and thanks to Mum for babysitting…
Just like Eastwood, a game of two halfs.
They were up for it 1st half, we were very flat and looked a little lethargic. We had a number of good free kick situations and didn’t use them. I will leave the Pritch debate to others, suffice to say we didn’t have any aerial presence on attacking free-kicks and the defence didn’t look as assured without him.
BUT - the Second Half was a totally different affair!!!
The h-t team talk obviously worked because we came out bang up for it, two very special goals and being honest it could have been 4 or 5 with some fantastic attacking moves.
Reading the previous posts just shows how different we all see the game, hence the forum!
My two pennerth - Mom Peers-changed the game created a great goal out of nothing.
Thought Brodie and Liam both worthy contenders.
Thought the defence were generally disjointed 1st half but Kearney, worked well to set up the goal and apart from the suicidal back pass at the end did well.
As for the statement that Pritch and Barras can’t play together then just look at the stats!
If that character and belief continues then we will be Champions come May!
April…
But we’d still be in May, and June and July
I have read my post and it does look like I meant Pritch and Barras can’t play together, what I meant was I think Kearney is playing too well to drop and after showing such great professionalism all season deserves his place, hence the choice is then Pritch or Barras along side, but like you said Chad the beauty of footy is everyone will pick a different team to face Leek!
Glad u also mentioned Steve Brodie Andy - he is as important a signing as Baras was last season. He is a players player - always available for one twos, tracking back to help the defence, not a ferocios tackler but gets his body in the way and just as effective. He lays on goals and scores the odd one as well. Like Baras he has the experience we lacked last season and if he can keep fit and injury free I can see him being Jim’s player of the season.
We certainly dug in on Saturday, the team showed great character to come back from a goal down and you can see what it meant to them!
A word about Alex Brown, he would barely accept any praise for his goal, all he said after the game was that "it’s the 3 points that matter". I think thats an indication of how focused the team are
would like to thank all at witton for making my little lads first witton experience a belter, hes hooked and looking forward to next weekend.
Good news big Rick, I hope you’ll be coming with him and a lot more of the young people we saw on Sat will return. It was a good attendance on Sat, full credit to whoever was responsible for sending all the letters out last week, inviting young people to attend.
I’ll be glued to this board tomorrow night, watching out for Fleetwood’s result. For anyone who doesn’t know, they play Gateshead in one of their games in hand tomorrow at Fleetwood.
Once again, great performance and result against Ilkeston. Well done all concerned.
Spread the word, everyone is welcome!
Nice one Ricky Boy, remember 12.45pm kick-off this saturday, so no night out on the tiles the night before
was stood near the pie shop in the first half and witnessed JK’s clanger (allowed 1 a season)
their fans started singing
"top of the league, your havin a laugh" (you know the tune )
How about we sing
" top of the league sounds about right, your x in the league because your s***e"
x = position of opposition in the league
;D ;D
Just a "little" mile-stone to add for your statistical consumption. Alex Brown’s screamer was in fact Albion’s 1,000th Home NPL goal. I know John Buckley touched on on this following the 3-0 win against Buxton but the actual fact of now it has happened, it would appear escaped the news!
