Upto 4th in the league following this afternoon’s results.
Spalding United dropped points & Romulus were beaten at home.
Good win today! IMO they were the best team we have played this season including the cup games and they should have been 3 up at half time but a combination of poor finishing and a great performance by Roberts kept us in it. As ever, the Witton lads all put in a shift and I would like to say a massive well done to Owens who gives his absolute ALL every single week and his work rate is fantastic
Agree with Hardly, Basford played some lovely one touch stuff , like we were at the start of the season. Made a nice change to see us score from a corner, the last one must have been when God was a lad. The lads kept us sweating in the typical Witton way right to the end to earn a very welcome, hard earned 3 points.
Yes agreed Basford were pretty good, quick and played good football - but we more than matched over 90 and I thought deserved to win, my MOM Rob Hopley who lead the line brilliantly, not sure about Owens tbh I can see the effort but not the quality and a bit lightweight ! Prince also played well at right back again and I thought our effort to a man was great. I bet they end up in the playoffs and wont lose many ? not like the old Witton at all didnt collapse and throw points away ! a new Witton and it great to see UTA
A gutsy performance from totally committed players saw us home against the best team we have met so far this season. A great team effort. M y MOM the team, because they all put in a shift and never stopped running throughout. Well done lads.Keep up the good work. UTA
That ended up being a good win yesterday against a side hitting form and with some good performances in their ranks. That said Albion had enough in the locker to see us home and 3 more points on the scoreboard. So overall a good day.
What the last couple of weeks indicates (to me) though is that we only need to have a player missing or playing out of their normal position and we lose some of the fluidity and cohesion that has made is so good to watch this term. Hopefully with everyone back soon that will be rectified and the team strengthened.
Final point - really disappointed in the gate. I think it was the 2nd best in our league, but this team deserves more support than that. However, looking at the gates for the league above, few were any better. Is there a general malaise in non league ?
I think it’s a sign of the times to be honest.
With so much football on television and us being in close proximity of four premier league teams then we are going to struggle, also the added attraction of the Ryder Cup doesn’t help.
My major concern is in ten years time what will happen. The faces you see on the terraces are the same I’ve seen for the past forty years.
Which is why it is good we have youth teams and free entry for kids, they are the future. But it is right that there is a lot of competition for audiences, not just football. Watch a televised Premier League game from one of the ordinary clubs and their grounds are half empty, only 50,000 at Old Trafford for a European game when the gate is usually well over 70,000 just to watch the grass grow!!

Basford came really close to being the 1st team to displace Witton Albions 100% home record so far this season but came up just short.
Despite an injury list approaching crippling proportions United gave it a real good go but came up just short after a spirited late fightback. It is easy in hindsight to say what if ,but United crucially missed two gilt edge chances in the opening 15 minutes. Ash Grayson who added to the Basford injury list after coming off with a 2nd half injury miss was a particular bad one, as the main photo shows how much time he had to pick his spot rather than roll wide inside 4 minutes. Moments later Kyle Dixon going through on goal one on one you would put money to finish. Not this time as the talented midfielder gave the Witton Albion keeper a good chance to save which he took. The misses proved crucial as the home side gained a foothold in the game and turned the screw going in front on 30 minutes. A routine corner was not dealt with defensive by United and Hopley headed home from 4 yards for 1-0. Fair to say the home side dominated for the next 30 minutes and some good chances not converted, with Saul Deeney pulling off a couple of fine and really brave saves. With United well in the game a lot of set plays were not taken advantage of and far too many times caught offside. Witton looked to have sealed the game on 72 minutes with a fine strike for 2-0 but even this one many chances in the build up to clear lines. Credit is due that Basford kept going and Courey Grantham finally evaded markers to divert home for 1-2. Sensing a real chance to get something out of this one 83 minutes Calum Smith who continued his education, hit a cross cum short that clipped the far post with keeper beaten and inches away from onrushing strikers. But it wasn’t to be and United went down to a 1-2 defeat
I have tried to put videos and photos here without success . May I am not following the steps. If some IT savvy person could tell me how to,i’ll gladly put the vid here .
