Witton Albion vs Bedworth United

Cracking 3 points, awful performance, we need better cover players than we currently have when I saw the team I feared the worse but at least our spirit and battle was high and we fought to earn the points but quality without Williams, Haywood, Devine and an assured keeper in Roberts left us weak in areas and we could not plug the holes evident. One to forget and lets hope this is the last of AWOL players (they may leave but you know what I mean lol) UTA

ps I thought ref did ok today and handled the melee quite well a few mistakes but tried to give advantage and couldnt really disagree with many of his decisions

With 2 games a week it’s a cert that the lads will pick up injuries. Don’t know how long ng we can keep battling on for with key players missing

Well, that game had everything, just needed some football to complete the set. For me the game changed when Tol came on and started worrying their defence, makes me wonder why he’s not been starting matches of late. IMO it seems that most of the teams we play have improved over the season, while Witton have gone backwards. Of the signings made since the start of the season, I can’t think of one who has been an improvement on the players we had here already. Anyway good to get another three points and let’s hope we can finish in the play offs.

A difficult game against a physical team. I thought the key event was going to be the penalty not given. The ref looked to the linesman who indicated that the ball hit the defenders chest - but we were stood 5 yards away and the defender deliberately hung out his arm and the ball hit him just above the elbow. The defender turned to mask the handball and the linesman fell for it. In the end justice was done so no hard feelings, but it could have been a really bad moment in the season. We are getting closer to Shaw Lane, 10 points and 2 games in hand so at the moment its in their hands, but if we beat them in a couple of weeks time, then it really will be game on !!

I’ve no complaints about the team today, they worked their socks off and deserved the win. The absentees bring more fluidity to our play, but everyone is doing their best so you can’t criticise the team on the field.for that.

Not sure how they ended up without any red cards though !

Their keep poleaxing Tola was a red as he would have had the chance to go round him and score, didnt see the handball claim but certainly a big shout went up, and for Me Im not trying to criticise players directly and yes they do give everything but better quality is needed as someone said before our signings have been at a lower level than we need to improve the best 11 can you imagine the playoff scenario where we are missing due to holidays, injuries, work and suspension and as like today 4 of your best are not available, would you want to play Spalding or Rushden in those circumstances. UTA

After a grueling season I would not fancy us in the playoffs so it is win or bust for me. It must be difficult to get quality players this far into a season, who is going to let one go? The lads who have come in have had to replace quality players so I think they have done okay really.

From Bedworth …

BEDWORTH slipped to defeat as a solitary goal from Robert Hopley gave Witton the points.
Hopley pounced in the 81st minute when the Greenbacks were unable to clear a Bradley Bauress free kick curled into the six yard box from the left edge of the area after a foul by Jamie McAteer.
But for the most part Bedworth were more than a match for a Witton side unbeaten at Winchcam Park this season.
The early exchanges were tight with Josh Barnes pushing a Steven Tames free kick round the post.
But that apart the visitors had much the better of it with Luke Rowe testing home keeper Craig Ellison on his debut.
The best chance though fell to Jack Jeys when he was sent clear by Daniel Creaney. The striker though couldn’t match the heroics of a week earlier, his first shot being blocked and his follow up saved by Ellison.
With chances at a premium with Daniel Reynolds volleying inches wide with Barnes at full stretch.
Witton: Ellison, Gardner ©, Hickman (for Wilson 61), Lycett, Brown, Hinchliffe (for Noon 80), Reynolds (for Omotola 61), Owens, Hopley, Tames, Bauress
Subs not used: Sloane, Moore
Bedworth: Barnes, Smith (for Kavanagh 86), Rowe, Haines, McAteer, Albrighton, Parrott, Blythe ©, Creaney, Jeys, Moore
Subs not used: Brehon, Perkins, Amour, Penny

After Wednesday it was great to get the win. Just about shaded it after an even first half. Bedworth created nothing second half while witton just about managed one or two chances.

With Prince and Williams missing from midfield long ball was the main tactic, which should have led to tol coming on sooner than he did. Made the difference in the end. Wouldn’t mind seeing him start with Rob going forward, was a good partnership first half of season.

A game to remember methinks. Played poorly but still got a result…Rob’s face said it all in the net! Vis a vis their goalie…I respect someone who communicates…it’s more fun! I had to drag my lad down today with bribes but when he was there he loved it.

Well done the ball boys… U7’s Witton JFC! You don’t see THAT normally do ya?!

Love to all from the part timer southern lad

The Witton junior ball boys were just great so small yet did a super job on a cold day I hope they all enjoyed it well done lads UTA

Totally agree.
WHS.

I thought at halftime we’ll take a one nil here, they were a good team and we were missing one or to key players and were struggling to create anything clear cut. I wouldn’t criticise any of the players we had out there though they were certainly putting in everything and in the end we just about might have deserved all three points. Tolani coming on gave us a bit more oomph with his pace as the game opened up a bit towards the end and Rob Hopley brilliantly hooked in the winner. The mass handbags at ten paces near the end was a bit stupid for all involved but emotions do boil over when the pressure is on! The ref and his assistants dealt well with that and the man in black had a really good game all round. Bring on the Belper on Tuesday!

We ground out a result, which gives credit to the players who gave their all to win the match. Well done boys on a job well done. Let’s hope for a similar result on Tuesday. Also agree about the referee, one of the best officials i have seen lately. UTA
