Witton Albion vs Boston United (FAT3Q).

What a crazy wonderful cup tie that was, two nil down on six minutes and looking in tatters at the back though we had two chances before they scored. Then a fantastic fightback and a brilliant result again against higher opposition! We could have scored again and again and again in the second half as they pressed us without really creating a serious threat. The whole team once again were brilliant and it will be great to see Chester FC back again on Saturday COME ON THE ALBIOOOOON!!

The updates in the thread don’t (and couldn’t possibly) capture the drama and intensity of that first half performance. It was sensational.!!! After going 2 goals down we looked floored, but then suddenly sparked into life , got our mojo back and BOOOOOOM. Boston never really knew what hit them. Rob Hopley was sensational up front, but then again everyone in the team stepped up to the plate and Boston were hanging on for dear life. They made gaffes galore, but be in no doubt we ran them ragged. They absolutely didn’t know what hit them. We scored 4 fabulous goals with that first free kick an absolute peach, bending round the wall and giving the keeper no chance!! Second half we could easily have doubled the score. A couple of nailed on penalties not given , chances galore missed, post hit, shots well saved or flashing past the post or over the bar. Forget the Boston story (or lack of it) - we were brilliant ! Every man Jack played his part and it was a fantastic performance .

Chester were watching and I think would have been impressed. Whatever the result, we will enjoy Saturday and so should the players, who you know will not give a jot for status.

It’s very difficult when you’re not actually witnessing what’s going on and the information is via other means. I was sat here kicking every ball with everyone but there’s no substitute for being there in person. A great night for everyone concerned and this team just never seems to know when they’re beaten. #UTA.

well said Knutsfordian, just another brilliant team performance it really is a great season to be an albion red, well done all the players and mgt superb display and attitude. UTA

Hahaha! It really is a joy to be a Wittoner right now. Absolutely battered a team a couple of leagues above, this is some team!!

Nuff said! UTA

Wheels, don’t misunderstand me, there is absolutely no criticism of your updates at all. You do a fab job and we are all really grateful for what you do.

This was a real roller-coaster of a game and it was impossible to capture that in written updates, so I apologise if my comment caused any hurt whatsoever

No misunderstanding on my part Knutsfordian and I didn’t intend it to appear as if there was. I love the club and there’s nothing I would like more than being there. It isn’t the same and it is virtually impossible to recapture the atmosphere.

What a brilliant performance by the players, they just do not give up and always put in a full shift plus that bit extra. We could have been in double figures with a little bit of luck. Now for Chester on Saturday, what ever you were planning to do this weekend think again and get down and watch the team go for glory. They deserve bigger crowds to see them perform and go on to the next round.
Let’s get there in numbers and really make some noise.UTA

Oh yes definitely awake now, so no it wasnt a dream, and still smiling away, I bet a certain TB is choking on his cereal this morning over on the 2012 Winsford forum.
Very hard to pick a MOM, first half Bauress or Owens were irresistable, overall tho between Hopley or Haywood for me both superb in effort and skill and both set a standard for a team playing at the top of its game, No damn it ! I dont have to pick - 2 MOM awards to Rob and Prince. UTA

and to think one of our players was not fit to play before the game, and we had to send out to the nearest chemist for some medicine for him. He made some great runs during the game. (the medicine was Imodium Plus!).

Great to see us getting the main headline on the FA website too. http://www.thefa.com/news/2016/dec/07/buildbase-fa-trophy-round-up-061216

From Boston (just a recap of facts really without any comment)…

Boston United surrendered an early two-goal lead against Witton Albion to exit the Buildbase FA Trophy on Tuesday evening.

Joe Maguire and Marcus Marshall had set the Pilgrims on their way inside six minutes, but the tie turned on Bradley Bauress’ fine free-kick on 20 minutes.

Rob Hopley quickly equalised and Thomas Owens added a brace before the break to ultimately seal United’s elimination.

The Pilgrims had got off to a dream start with MAGUIRE spectacularly smashing home Taylor Miles’ fourth minute corner.

Matters got even better two minutes later when MARSHALL stooped to head home a left-wing cross and seemingly put the Pilgrims on course for progression.

Witton’s comeback started in the 20th minute when BAURESS stepped up to curl a delightful free-kick into the back of the net from 22 yards, off the inside of Michael Emery’s right-hand post.

Parity was restored five minutes later when HOPLEY rose highest to power home Bauress’ cross from the right.

Nine minutes before the break Witton edged in front when OWENS capped a flowing move with a neat finish from inside the penalty area.

OWENS then waltzed through on the stroke of half-time to pick his spot and beat Emery with aplomb from 12 yards.

United’s response was muted, with on-loan York City defender Ben Clappison going closest with a header wide at the back post following Marshall’s deep cross.

Tolani Omotola carried Witton’s primary threat on the break during the second period and he went close on three occasions late on, with one effort striking the post.

Bauress and Hopley were also close to further goals as Witton threatened to extend the winning margin.
