Great game, great performance and a cracking win all credit to the players who gave 100% effort all game to a man hard to pick a MOM but I will just about go with Tames who was a constant threat and was very influential UTA
from Bay…
THE Seagulls paid the price for missed chances as they bowed out of the FA Trophy with a 3-1 defeat in their replay at Witton Albion (Nov 1).
On the back of failing to score from the penalty spot in the 1-1 draw at the weekend, Scott Bakkor and Will Jones were guilty of two bad misses, while Gaz Burnett and Danny Andrews spurned other good opportunities.
Having said that, only three fantastic saves by Shaun Pearson in the first half kept Colwyn Bay in the tie.
Two former Bay players were among the home scorers with Michael Wilson getting the first after just seven minutes with a sweetly-hit volley after Rob Hopley had headed on a corner.
The Seagulls equalised two minutes later with a good finish by Burnett, but as Colwyn Bay struggled to contain Witton’s pacey attacks, Steven Tames saw a shot rebound of a post and Brad Bauress was inches wide with another effort.
The Bay were then unlucky when Bay hit the bar with the home keeper beaten, and straight from the clearance Tames broke clear at the other end to put the home side 2-1 up.
Bakkor then had a great chance to equalise when a defender’s mistake left him clear on goal, but he shot straight at the advancing keeper in a one-on-one situation.
After that it was keeper Shaun Pearson who kept Bay in the game, flying to his left to turn a Paul Williams shot round the post, leaping to tip a Town Owens effort over the bar and then diving to his left to keep out a Williams free kick with a brilliant one-handed save.
Late in the half Bay had another half chance when then ball fell for Burnett inside the area, but he spooned the chance high and wide.
In the second half the Bay should have been level on 67 minutes when Burnett latched onto a weak back pass and rounded the keeper before setting up a perfect chance for Will Jones – only for him to slice his sidefoot finish horribly wide of an open goal from 12 yards.
Danny Andrews then shot straight at the keeper from another good opportunity
When Jones then did get the ball in the net from Louis Corrigan’s low cross, the flag went up for offside – the third time in four games the Bay have had what could have been a key goal disallowed.
Bay’s hopes of saving the tie went with it as Witton finished strongly after that with Owens hitting the post again and Rob Hopley securing victory by sliding in the home side’s third goal on 82 minutes
I think the Bay report reflects their obvious disappointment to the result of what was an absolutely cracking game. The game had everything. End to end with chances for both teams, goals, woodwork hit by both teams, near misses, bad misses, defensive errors and great saves. 100% commitment by 2 closely matched teams. In the end, I think we shaded it and the result reflects that. The Kettering game should be a cracker too.
Well done to all the players and management. Lets hope for more nights (and days) like these !!!
a couple of the teams near us in the league lost last night so a good day all round
A great cup tie and a credit to both teams! We deservedly came out on top but it could have gone either way. Steven Tames had his best game for us but every single player did their very best COME ON THE ALBIOOON!
A couple of worrying errors at the back but the commitment shown by the players is simply first class.

At the back we are missing Brown at centre back who is terrific and credit to Bay they pressed and harried all night and they had a fair bit of quality up front so maybe a bit of nerves were responsible but other than that to a man we were great and Wilsons sweet volley for the first goal more than made up for his back pass error. UTA
Best game I have seen at Wincham Park for well over 4 years From the off we were at them right until the 90th minute, special mention for Williams that lad is a class act and his left foot is majestic! But as Colin said they were all brilliant, Gards seemed his old fired up self, Hopley is just pure class and could see that goal meant a lot to him last night, Owens never stopped for 90 minutes really starting to like this lad he is 100% every week, just a great performance
Knew this management team were the right choice
