Great start to the season. We wont be easy to beat get ready with the “1-0 to the Albion” song this season. Not a lot up front though. Kinsey did well and I liked the look of how he holds the ball up. Just need someone (a couple?) to play off him but early days. Macca was outstanding as usual, what a player to have at this level. The number 4 did well when he went to right back too and the left back looks good. All in all I am pleased that I went to Witton even though my other option was the Alex who won 7-0. 1-0 to the Albion will do me nicely thanks.

Totally agree with tea hut this was a great first outing looked very shaky first 20 mins, but oggy saw this and changed it and it worked. We looked steady at the back and in midfield following the changes and it seemed to spur peter Heler on he became more involved.
Liked the pattern and the commitment we showed and to be fair to them they were a very competitive and strong team who were well organised and played some good football.
Really enjoyed it and well done to all involved.

A pleasing day all round and pleased to have shaded it. Imo that will be the case for a lot of games this season - a lot of hard work, tough to beat and few chances. Thats not a negative comment as I believe given our resources that is the way we need to play.

Re the gate - it was legit, no point in making these things up. Credit garforth who brought a decent number which easily tipped the balance over 300. I just hope a few more do the same.

Might go to Fylde on Tuesday night, trying to persuade the wife by offering to take her shopping in Blackpool and Fleetwood prior to the game!!

I didn’t think there was a problem up front - I just think the team needs time to gel. I watched the strikers and they were making the runs but many times the midfielders were taking too many touches or stopping to have a look and allowing the defence to turn before playing the ball in, thus making their runs ineffective. It should hopefully start falling into place soon when there is a settled eleven and they get more used to playing with each other.

Strong display, I still thought we lacked cutting edge up front ( but not effort )macca has to be in the middle and we probably need a left winger will we regret letting Maylett go ? I would like to see him in this team, dont really want to see Warner come back in he does not defend well and prone to getting caught in possession and out of position too often, defence is looking very good with lots of options, what of course we dont know is how good are Garforth ? Oggies history shows that if he is not happy he will change things so could be interesting season.

I thought it was a decent first game, lots of effort. I think some of them were trying just a bit too hard at times, just need to settle a little. Was impressed with how Oggy chnged the formation so quickly when he realised it wasn’t working. We couldn’t afford Maylett CJ and to be honest I wouldn’t want him in a team that has a good spririt and work hard for each other. Not sure about the Warner situation if it had been me on Saturday I would have put him in at left back just so I could push Matt Wood further up field because he is going to cause a lot of defences problems this season

On how good Garforth are, its a good question only time will tell. I don’t know how these things get found out but I was told afterwards that their wage bill is double ours, and if rumours on the fylde forum are true they are on anything up to 10 times what our lads are on!!!

Going to be a very interesting season.

Agree with most of whats been said. I think on the Warner situation that its a shame he’s not playing releasing Wood to play further upfield with his pace. Danny’s strength is his passing so I think he’d play some great balls through for Matt Wood to get on the end of. We do lack that punch up front but what Mr Ogden has done is make us hard to beat as we looked very solid and thats with Ben Harrison out who has to be an asset. I don’t think Brad Maylett would add anything to this team or indeed any of the others we had last season. The lads all seem to work for one another and the team spirit is good. I think this was a solid start to the season and if we could get even a goaless draw at Fylde tonight I think we could build on this.
I’m sure Mr O is already thinking about the forward set up and the lads up there certainly don’t lack effort but as we all know the two forwards up front have to have that chemistry to be able to play off one another so who knows this could come right with more games.
Considering we have one of the lowest budgets I think we are looking good and if we can grind out results like this all season we could be up there with some of the more expensive others!! The club is moving forward again on a number of fronts and its great. Its up to all “fringe” Wittoners to come back into the fold and get the gates up. That way our board might consider a small increase in the budget!!
Onward and Upward great stuff!!

well said mona, we are definately moving in the right direction. all tha we need is for more stay away fans to come through the gate and support the very real efforts that these players are putting in. so come on all you witton fans, get down to wincham park.

When will “Super Mike” be fit? Once he is back we will be really on our way.
