Witton Albion vs Kendal Town.

I think a good gauge of what a sorry outfit we are at the moment is the dwindling number of supporters behind the goal. It was woeful today and if things don’t change quickly I feel Derby matches next season against 1874 are a distinct possibility.

I don’t think that’s going to happen mate but I did take a look around today and there wasn’t many of us which does concern me.

Regarding attendance ours was the second highest in our league, so fans seem to be doing their bit. So was it officials or excellent pitch to blame for getting a footballing lesson from Kendal? Don’t think so. Thanks to Gards, and the two Danny’s for showing some quality. Not sure if the rest of this squad can match them.

Don’t usually comment on the forum, but I agree CJ, we are lacking quality in some areas. I think we need a good left back who can defend. We need a good wide midfielder to play with Roberts, Schofield, and Andrews. Up front We need a better player to go with Titch in my opinion. We need to sort this out now if we are going to have a chance of making the play offs.

Anyone know what happened to Beaumont the big midfielder ? not a huge fan but think he would be better than Green and Baker in midfield ? next game up is Brighouse and they are doing well also so no easy recovery on the cards. also is Tom Schofield back training as someone suggested earlier ?

I heard one or two things but I’m not sure which was correct.

I heard Beaumont moved on a couple of weeks ago, don’t know under what circumstances or where to though. For me Baker is an out and out winger and has looked good when played there, why he’s been playing in midfield is beyond me. Completely wasted there imo.

Yes Paul, I believe Tom Schofield has started training again.

Think it was CJ that enquired about Tom Schofield not me, but thanks for the info. We could do with him back asap.

Latest Score from Wincham Park:

Witton Albion 0 Kendal Town 1.

Craig Carney puts Kendal in front on 9 minutes - a tremendous volley in off the crossbar.[/quote]

Same player? Or remarkable coincidence…?

Seems odd that a player from our ‘development squad’ would be featuring against us in a league game against Kendal?

Yes, I have it on good authority that it is the same Craig Carney.

Anybody know why he was playing - and scoring - against us rather than for us on Saturday then?

Judging by the goal he scored he’s got ability, so surely he should be in our first team not Kendal’s if he is part of our development squad?

If he’s playing first team football for Kendal then surely he doesn’t need to be ‘developed’ and his place would be better off going to a young local lad for example?

I’m struggling to see how Witton benefit from having a Kendal player turning out for what is affectively our youth/reserve team?

From what I have heard the players in the development squad are sometime dual registered, some are just there to be in the shop window for themselves- hopefully Witton will get first look and first choice but if they are not on contract and most wont be then they are able to move to first and best offer from any club - some of them are not youngsters but experienced younger players who are looking for games at a decent level to prove themselves to Witton or other clubs I don’t know what exactly happened with Craig Carney but assume Kendal knew about him and offered a chance to him ! I know Terry Murphy and Paul Ogden have watched our Development squad but I guess we cannot sign them all either on contract or for the first team so we are bound to see fluidity with the squad and we will miss out on some players ! not too good for us but good for the player hence the attraction to the squad and we have I think signed 4 players onto first team forms.

Having signed 4 on which is great, but if they can’t get a game at the moment then what’s the point? I know Matthews was injured at the weekend, but what about the others?

I would have hoped that if Jay Matthews, after his spectacular contribution in the FA cup, had been fir he would have AT LEAST been on the bench on Saturday. And for our development squad players to be making such a significant contribution to beating us by scoring for Kendal seems most odd!?

Jamie Mathews played for the development team Thursday scored a hat trick but got injured and came off so I am sure he was injured for Saturday and it was only 1 player who played for Kendall and it can as I explained happen ! but having seen it and the standard it is at looks a good set up ! so far Mark Bainbridge and Jamie Mathews have come through but we already have a squad so to get in the team they have to be better than we have but 4 in total have been signed to provide cover and or play which is not bad-better than any reserve team has ever done I think, I don’t know if Craig Carney will be a miss or not scoring one spectacular goal does not make him a great player but time will tell. Try and get down and watch them sometime it is pretty good and they do play decent football.

According to Kendal’s player profiles he has been with the club since Feb 2014.

So again, still no idea why he would be playing for our development team if he already has a club at this level.

Feels as though our reserve team is being pimped out to the highest bidder.

Any news on the lad that’s on trial at Aberdeen?

Well I sort of see your point Robbo, but its not a reserve side its a development squad slightly different aims and its aimed at a different group of players which are meant to be closer to the quality the first team need and I guess it has its problems - not sure pimping is the right term though lol, but it is bringing some results for the first team already and its early days, I have not heard news on the trial at Aberdeen guess we should soon maybe Derek can find out ?

I believe Colin has got it spot on. From what I have been led to understand, this is no longer a “RESERVE” team.

John Salmon, who runs the “DEVELOPMENT” team has some very unique contacts in the game, and not just in this country. As such, players who are eager to make it in football, want to use John’s expertise to fast path their futures. (I believe some fly in from other countries to play, and some even pay to play). Basically, it is a shop window.

John is giving these players their chance, and Theo’s trial with Aberdeen is evidence of this.

Each player is different, but there is a strong chance that Witton will benefit from this Development, as seen with Jay Matthews. We just need to show some patience.
