It was a much improved display from the Albs but ultimately keeper errors and lack of goal scoring threat cost us a deserved point. I can see why Matlock are top big robust/dirty side, pretty fit with pace where needed and essentially the ability to score goals. Witton to a man put in a big effort to compete and and in a 5 3 2, we looked better balanced! On other days Saunders scores one of those 3 chances he had! Now we need to put that effort in again and beat Mickleover.
Matlock’s manager Paul Phillips was very complimentary in his comments saying “Witton deserved something from the game” and he went onto say that “Carl & Gary are good managers, we have good players and playing like that we’ll get out of trouble.” Of course we need to get the results in order to enable us to do that. Big six pointer next week now against Mickleover.
C.J., It’s becoming a regular occurrence where keeper errors are costing goals or putting us under pressure with poor distribution. Maybe time to look at a new keeper, Greg is certainly not the keeper he was in his first spell with us.
Greg Hall seems to be in poor form and is becoming very erratic with catching, kicking and decision making and his previously seen great shot stopping is not as it was. As it stands maybe he needs some time out to recover his form as a shaky keeper leads to defensive jitters. Maybe we can get a loan keeper in?
The trouble is we haven’t seen enough of Raj as back up keeper to know whether he could do a job, and probably the wrong time to take a risk on him. I think a keeper on loan may be the only answer but if Greg is on contract it’s more money we need to find for a loan keeper’s wages as well as Greg’s.
I think we are being a bit harsh on Greg. A keeper is like a ref, when they make a mistake everyone picks it up. On their goal he made 2 really good saves so he did his best. We must have had the rest of the team in the box, yet we conceded! It is easy to blame the keeper, 1874 differ to us when they lose, they just blame the ref!
