Good performance, and nice to see Titch on the scoresheet. Rainford was having a good game until half time but at 2-0 better to not risk him. Hopefully not serious and just precautionary.
Really happy to get 3 points from that, first half played pretty well, second half nervy and mistake ridden no idea why ? plus points for us 2 well taken goals from Titch and Jamie and a good return debut for Tom Schofield in centre mid with Luke Clark they could become a good pairing John Dawson had another good game at left wing back right side not so good, hope Jamie is not too bad because we need him upfront with no real options in the squad until Fowler is fit ? League table looks a little better now but we need to keep winning UTA
After all the other stuff that’s been happening, it was good to see the team giving their all. Some good football first half and very nervy in the second, but that said we had chances with one kicked off the line from Titch (oh soooo close) that would have given us breathing space at 2-1.
Overall 3 good points against a Stourbridge side with some really quick players who looked very useful at times
Oh and yes the crowd did get behind the team
UTA
Well played tonight lads, against a tough team we battled well. Much needed 3 points. Mom was titch for me put in a great shift. Also thought john Shaw had a great game. Get in!
Witton Substitution:
Jamie Rainford replaced by Lucas Porquet-Molina at Half Time.
Didn’t know about that one until after the match had finished.
Not a classic but the wins all that matters and 3 points thought Schofield played well coming into a new team and nice to see Titch put a shift in been missing that! Two season defining games coming next and 6 points!? UTA
The best performance I have witnessed for the last 2 seasons. As demonstrated at home, Stourbridge are a very good side, with some very pacey players, and we did well to come away from their ground with just a 3-0 drubbing. I think they were mezmorised by our sleek passing game, especially in the 1st half, and we went in deservedly with a 2 goal lead. We kept our shape (3-5-2) throughout the game, which was bossed by our midfield general, Luke Clarke…what a signing he has turned out to be!
The whole team put in some great effort, especially when Stourbridge woke up in the 2nd half, and started to throw the kitchen sink at us. We kept our shape, and limited them to just 2 real attempts on goal…one hit the crossbar, and the other went in.
Great start to Danny Andrews captaincy!
The reaction so far seems to be more positive than mine would be. I think we’ve been very fortunate to have played the last 3 teams, none of whom were up to much. But let’s look on the bright side, we’re now within reach of a few teams above us. I think the centre back pairing is very sound and the goalie has a knack of keeping out chances. Great to see Titch score and Rainford’s finish reminded me of one S. Tuck at Gigg Lane a few years ago ( happy days…). If we can start taking a higher percentage of chances then more wins should follow, but the overall standard must improve if we are to get anything out of the games against top-10 sides.
Great to see Pritch at the ground - a shadow of his former self (in a good way).
I thought we played well first half but very nervous second half - which given our league position is very understandable. How many games last season did you throw points away in stoppage time? When the 5 minutes went up last night i think we all feared the worst! So great credit to the boys for holding on.
I thought Titch put his best perfomance of the season in, andit was all about work-rate. He’s set a standard now which he needs to maintain.
I would also give great credit to Joe Shaw for putting a great shift in in an unfamiliar position.
7 points from the last 3 is a good return no matter the quality of the opposition. No games ar eeasy when teams are scrapping for every possible point.
Our home form remains impressive and could be decisive.
Just on another thing last night, was great to see the players come over to the Popular Side and accept our applause, never usually see that thought the fans were excellent last night everyone was behind the team UTA
Looking at the League table this morning, I believe the bottom 3 are doomed, and the 21st position is likely to be fought out between Nantwich and ourselves.
The remaining fixtures are:-
NANTWICH:-
HOME - BLYTH, RUSHALL, BELPER, WITTON, WHITBY & ILKESTON
AWAY - Frickley, Barwell, Curzon, Blyth & Rushall
WITTON:-
HOME - BELPER, KINGS LYNN, SKEM, RUSHALL, WHITBY, FCUM & BLYTH
AWAY - Frickley, Ashton, Nantwich & Stamford
For arguments sake, say that all games against the top 8 in the league we both loose against, all games against the middle 8 of the league we both draw, and all games against the bottom 8 in the league we both win. This would leave it very tight, with Nantwich securing 12 points, ending on 50 points, and Witton ending on 52 points.
I wish it was that easy!
Sorry Jeff but I’ve just looked at the league table and I think it’s absurd to say it’s just between us and Nantwich.
Kings Lynn in 14th place are only six points above us from just one game less. Stamford are two points ahead from the same number of games etc.etc. I won’t go through the others as it will take me too long to type!
For what it’s worth, I think the number of home games we have left will save us as our home form is so much better than our away form.
Long way to go yet. I still fancy us for the play offs
If only it was that simple TT a long way to go yet. UTA!
Was discussing this last night, Ramsbottom have many games in hand, their current form however is very poor (lost 7 drawn 1 in last 8 games) they also have alot of games to fit in so this will also play a part.
There’s a lot of games left between teams who are in the bottom half of the table, so any number of teams can get pulled into the battle to survive. We have to believe in our own team and have belief that we are good enough to stay up, if we do that we can make it happen.
What a fantastic result and a superb three points!! Just sad I coundn’t be there…but I’m there Saturday COME ON THE ALBIOOOOOON!!
I think the 4th place will be a 4 way battle between, Witton, Stamford, Ramsbottom and Nantwich ! On the plus side if we were to finish 4 th bottom if one team is saved because of Salisbury demise then currently Witton have a better points per game ratio than the south or midand league and would be the team to survive, lots of football to be played of course and on current form I hope Witton won’t need to rely on 4th place Maths.
