Witton Albion 1-0 Sutton Coldfield Town

Toughest game so far for the Albion. Sutton failed to take their chances when on top in the first half and Witton’s defence especially Cooper Kearney and Harrison stood firm throughout. Excellent far post corner from Botham provided the winner.

Well Done to all concerned today.

I am not sure what percentage the players will get from the £2000 prize money, but I hope they enjoy it. Its just sad we are no longer top of the league.

We’re now away to Cammell Laird in the 1st Round on the 16th October 2010. Prize money £2200.

Sutton will definitely count themselves unlucky to not have got the replay, but cooper made some great saves to keep them out. That said, we had chances at the other end to finish the game off, so overall we probably just shaded it. Ashley Stott was my MOM fot the goal and his endless effort up front.

nice win did,nt think we played well tho,Grandson enjoyed him self with it being first match.:cheer:

Strange game, didn’t play well but their keeper saved 3 or 4 one on ones so we could have netted a few. That said, we enjoyed considerable fortune (for once!) and if I was a visiting fan I’d have thought my team deserved at the very least a draw. Hope we’re back to form for Wednesday.

I think for once we rode our luck a little today (come on its about time) what was most pleasing was the team knew they weren’t playing well but they dug deep and came away with a win so great credit to them for that. No sponsors today but the board picked a man of the match which was presented in the club afterwards and it went to Coop’s in Goal for in our opinion a faultless display.

Enjoyed the game today, sign of a good team when you can grind out a 1-0. Their keeper was a bit mouthy and probably could have had a booking. Cooper was excellent and Botham looked lively, getting some good crosses in. Odd goal, we had better chances than that and they should be disappointed to have let it in.

Onwards and upwards.

There’s a great spirit and togetherness in this team and that’s what gets you through sometimes.
To win 7 games in a row is a remarkable achievement.
Matt Cooper had his best game and showed his quality.

Agree with all that has been said. We certainly rode our luck and could have been 3 down in the first 10 minutes. We had a good 15/20 minute spell in the second half around the time of the goal. Personally I thought it was an own goal, Kinsey’s header back looked to go in off their player who headed it beneath the bar.

Good spirit and the ability to win games without playing well is a good quality to have. Cooper ultimately was the difference to the win or a replay on Tuesday.

We’ll have to play better on Wednesday night but there again it was interesting to see Chester having to come from behind at home to Prescot to get a 1-1 draw. I don’t think we should go into this game with any fear, Ruffer, Peers and Hopley are not better than Kearney, Botham and Kinsey. We just need to play to our ability on the night and not freeze in front of a big crowd.
