We were that poor today I’m not even goin to post anything…ooops I just did!

There are two points I would like to make. You learn, or you should learn as a young player never, never to let the ball bounce, but to head it before it does so. You also learn to “Clear your line.” It is painfully obvious that our players are unaware of these two “Golden Rules.” It is all very well to try to play nice football but defenders are first placed in defence because they are not as good at passing or dribbling as others so they are taught to stop the “Clever” players from playing, they are also taught to give the ball to the better footballers and allow them to create and score goals. It seems our defenders are unaware of these “Golden Rules” so they continually give away the ball and give away “Daft” goals. Whose fault is this? Is it their previous teachers or their present coach? I have no idea, but the issue needs addressing if the team is to improve. I await my telling off for even suggesting that our Manager may be at fault for our poor performances such as the one yesterday. Pretty football is nice, but it rarely wins unless tempered by reality defending.

I take away nothing from Trafford, they were superior in every department. The first goal was the best away goal I’ve seen all season. And if our shooting hadn’t been so abysmal, well, who knows. But we were set up wrong today, back to the bad old days of early season with one striker in the first half. Sheehan was not suited to the advanced role. You add to that ridiculous defending at times and you have a pretty comprehensive humbling, in my view.

It’s times like yesterday that we really miss a big man up front who can hold the ball. Surely we can get one 6 footer plus for next season, the lad that came on made Titch look big! No disrespect to any player, but we need more options.

May I make clear before anyone gets the wrong idea, I am NOT calling for the head of our Manager who I greatly respect as probably the greatest living Wittoner. But it has been painfully obvious all season that our defending has been naïve in the extreme in some games and something needs to be done.

Bakkor is one booking away from a 3 game ban, hence he was left on the bench.

I know Pritch has regularly tried to sign more physical centreforwards (the lad from Lairds who went to Barrow i think? The fella who plays for Worksop? The lad from Leek?), but i think often money comes into it, or a desire to stay where they are comfortable. Most of the time our style of play doesn’t suit a big man, so i’m not sure if it would be counter-productive. Dave Walker is probably ideal.

Well done to Lewis Stanley who had 2 more goes at breaking a world record yesterday (how’s that for dedication!). Ultimately he fell short, reaching 7 goals. Plenty of time for him to practice over the summer, and we’ll try again next season - when we’ll also open this up to other supporters again. Thanks to all who assisted yesterday.

I would agree Robbo, our style of play does not really suit a big man.

DOes that mean he’ll be on the bench for the rest of the season?

With the situation the way it is does it matter?

NO!

There is a cut off date when this ban applies, and that has now passed. I believe he was booked 9 times before he joined us.

Yes, as the ban would begin from the 1st game of next season… :red

Cheers, thanks for that info Robbo; so it is important.
