The second annual Charity Golf Day held by the Evo-Stik League took place on Thursday 7th October at Hollins Hall, Hotel and Country Club, Baildon. ESTC Group had generously agreed to sponsor the event for a second year, along with our new sponsors Bostik Ltd. We thank both companies for their most valued support, and in particular we would like to mention Dave Milbourne of ESTC and Simon Fleet from Bostik Ltd and hope both gentlemen and their guests enjoyed the day.
The chosen charity for this year was Help For Heroes, and representative Colin Brown attended the presentation evening that followed the golf competition. Colin is one of many representatives who voluntarily attend fund raising events and give talks regarding the history of the Help For Heroes charity and its aims. Quite simply, Help For Heroes offer support to those service men and woman who return from active duty suffering from any one of the many differing traumas that can affect these brave individuals. Many have suffered the loss of a limb, or sight and others return with psychological problems that can develop when troops have been exposed to war conditions. Colin gave a very inspiring and emotional speech and it was a pleasure having someone who is obviously so committed to the cause make the address.
The excellent golf course at Hollins Hall is set amid 200 acres of rolling hills in the heart of Yorkshire and boasts grand surroundings and beautiful views. Due to some late retractions it was unfortunate that only nine teams experienced the attractive yet challenging USGA standard course, with the team representing Witton Albion FC taking the winners trophy with a score of 82 points, and Bradford Park Avenue FC coming in second with a score of 79. The nearest the pin prize was won by David Scott of Newcastle Town and Longest Drive was won by a member of the ESTC team. Congratulations to all our prize winners and a sincere thank you to the teams who participated, namely: ESTC, Bostik, Barwell, Newcastle Town, Clitheroe, Bradford Park Avenue, North Ferriby United, Witton Albion and AFC Fylde. We would also like to thank the 15 Evo-Stik League member clubs who kindly sponsored tee-boards.
After enjoying a delicious three course evening meal in the relaxed splendour of the Hawksworth Suite we were entertained by Master of Ceremonies Pete Emmett and Comedian Billy Bean who had travelled all the way from Leeds! A raffle was held and also a ‘football card’ which seemed very appropriate. The £100 prize was kindly donated back by the winners Mike Winterburn and Roger Banks, both of whom had also helped out during the day taking responsibility for the scorecards and registration process. Thank you gents for your support and kind assistance. Andrew Pinfield who had organised the event on behalf of the League had managed to procure some fantastic auction prizes including a Steven Gerrard signed portrait and a signed Liverpool shirt donated by Chester FC. Bostik had donated a framed Evo-Stik shirt signed by the legendary Sir Geoff Hurst and Hollins Hall Hotel had generously donated a Round of Golf (4-ball) with buggies, both items raising significant sums which should realise a donation in excess of £1200 to the Help For Heroes Charity.
Thank you for your support, sponsorship, donations and attendance – see you all next year!
