While shoppers would have been hustling and bustling for those last minute Christmas presents, Witton Albion manager Gary Finley was busy putting the finishing touches to his squad in time for the festive programme with the introduction of two new player’s at the Club with one departing.
With first choice keeper Joe Clegg having given the game up and his replacement Craig Vernon out injured, Finley moved quickly to fill the number one shirt with the acquisition of Jack Baker from UniBond North side Warrington Town.
Baker joined Town at the end of October from VODKAT League side AFC Liverpool, and played in their four fixtures the following month.
Hot on the heels of Baker came Ronnie Morgan, another player with UniBond experience after leaving Cammell Laird to sign for the Albion. The 29-year-old Liverpool based forward was in his second stint with the Lairds, for whom he once scored 180 goals in a four year spell.
He left the Wirral to try his luck in the Welsh Premier League, joining New Saints in June 2007. An injury plagued season saw him make just the one start (3 sub) but he still managed to score. He was also on the books of Wrexham in 2003/04.
With Albion’s game at Kidsgrove Athletic being postponed due to a frozen pitch, Morgan’s debut could well be their home Boxing Day encounter - against Cammell Laird!
With two in, it was one out, with Stuart Rudd moving across to join UniBond Premier side Guiseley.
Rudd, who joined the Albion pre-season elected to join the Leeds outfit once he was aware of their interest, and the player leaves Wincham Park with the Clubs best wishes
