Its quite out of order to say people don’t want to help their team fact is some can’t afford to. Their money has to go to more important things.
Some people aswell are too nice to say no, I think if they have said that “Ill do it next week” a few times you should take the hint and stop pestering them maybe because you are clearly making their visit to Wincham Park uncomfortable and therefore they will be less likely to return.
Gates are already down on last season, yes Witton have dropped a division but pestering people for money for this that and the other is just going to annoy them. It is one of the reasons I only follow from afar now. Yes the club needs money and peoples money is needed etc. But there are plenty of other clubs just as poor if not worse off and they aren’t pestering for money every 2 mins at games. Some people have more money than others so let those come and contribute that can afford it.
Last season became ridiculous when the bucket for the grounds donations started appearing at AWAY games. Some cheeky cow called me tight for not putting in at Ashton when I had put in every other week at home.
People should be appreciated for just coming through the turnstile even if they buy nothing else but they aren’t. Its a joke. After all the money fans put in last year what did they get in return…Relegation to Unibond South.
The pestering for money continues, entry to WP remains overpriced and it any wonder regulars have stopped going…

You make a good point Red Army, I think in fairness the club fully acknowledges the commitment and indeed the financial contributions of many. Whether people have an extra 10p or £100 to put is not the point, the fact remains that financing the running of a football club at this level is hand to mouth and therefore fund raising is always going to be a necessary activity. The squad we could afford to operate would be of lower quality without the ongoing support of those that do/can contribute any amount.

One fan is no better than the other whether they can/do donate over and above the entrance fee. No one should ever feel under pressure to donate anything that they don’t want to donate, but at the same time we have to keep up the profile of money generating schemes like the predictions sheets and the 200 club (both which offer very good odds on winning more money back than you actually put in)!

The challenge regarding increasing gate sizes will not be overcome by knocking £1 or £2 off the entrance fee. Anyone who has seen the team play would recognise the quality of the squad and the performances has been better than last season. Ultimately the only way to get gates back averaging over 300+ is to be seriously challenging for promotion. We could knock the entrance fee down to £6 (lose players like Foster, Maylett, Rudd, etc) and be propping up the bottom of this division on gates of 170/180 people. Yes the entrance price would be £2.50 less but we would have less chance of getting out of the division with poorer quality football. Is that really going to put 50 or 100 more people on to the gate?

I think overall the Chairman, board and others are doing the best job they can for this football club at the present time. Equally there are many fans that work tirelessly to raise additional funds to maintain a competitive playing squad and to assist in the financial upkeep of the club.

Ultimately the best supporter is the one that turns up to encourage their team, home or away, on a Saturday at 3. If they throw in a extra £5 then great, if they don’t then their support is just as vital. Supporting your local football team is not an elite activity (unless you happen to live in Stretford)!

I’m in the 200 Club by the way through choice and hopefully more will try to do the same but it does not mean they have to!

Are you seriously saying that because people keep coming round to ask for money, you have stopped going to games?

That is a rubbish reason! If you get annoyed at being asked for money once you get inside the turnstile, then just tell whoever it is that you can’t afford/don’t want to give any more money.

Also, even though £8.50 is only a little less than last year, it is still less than other clubs at our level. I went to see Hitchin Town yesterday who play in the Zamaretto Division 1 Midlands league, step 8, the same as us. Adult admission was £9, and concessions were £5, also more than us. And the football wasn’t as good, and the same went for the atmosphere.

If you don’t like the cost of supporting our club, then stay away, but don’t complain about who much it costs on this website.

Finally, although I don’t agree much with everything that WHS says/does with regard to Witton, but I think it’s a bit rich for you to have critised him on the Shepshed thread, and then say that you have been following from afar.

Tom, really you should have stayed at home and sent your £9 towards the fund!

Joking of course

No course it isnt the only reason. And last season I was there pretty much every game. WHS for the last 2 years on this thread has made me laugh how he writes an excuse for not going. He must have been 1 or 2. Yet he posts more than anyone. Mostly about why he can’t go. We don’t need to hear whether he is going for a walk in the park instead or polishing his toenails.

Yes Wincham Rabbit I know what your saying with needing people for 200 club etc but as long as its advertised in the club, on the website etc people are aware of it they dont need to be put under pressure.

I understand your point regarding needing the extra to keep the better players too but if they are only playing for the £60 or £70 they are getting then you dont want them players in your team. Because they arent playing with a passion as we have seen in some games this season already. Thats fine if you a better player much like some Eastwood, FC United, Guiseley etc had last year. But are you telling me the younger keen lads that are on the lowest wage probably arent doing as good a job?

Last year we got told to do this and that and if we raise this much blah blah so we could have this player and that player still there. But them lot last season played with no passion and no heart and thats why we went down!

Yes - he’s a cheeky bu**er that Len - always going round asking fans for money !

It’s a perennial problem of non-league Red Army.

Unfortunately we have had examples of players leaving over the last couple of seasons where they have moved for an extra £30 a week and they were good players! The challenge is club’s can’t afford to over commit themselves to the number of players they have on contract and therefore it is easy for players to move. Unfortunately at every level of the game players move for money (eg Ashley Cole, Carlos Tevez and one of the biggest culprits Nicholas Anelka), however at non-league many of the players use the money to supplement sometimes moderate incomes, where the weekly money from football is a reasonable percentage of their earnings.

Generally the players are not Witton fans (with our lucky exception of Moseley and Pritch). Take Steve Foster, a very good player at this level of football and a well liked player in the team from what I understand. Steve is not at Witton as a fan of the club, he is here because we are paying him and one would hope because he wants to enjoy his football in a winning side.

Players unfortunately play for money, we’ve had a defender leave the club already this season who asked for more money to stay as he had been offered more elsewhere. I agree with you, good riddance if that is the attitude. We want players who want to play for the club but money is always going to be a factor. Remember the Halifax factor, a bunch of players dropping down a league for more money!

I agree that heart, commitment, pride, are all factors that you desire most in a player, however ultimately money talks. If a club offers a player £150 rather than the £75 he is on say with us then generally you will not see him for dust.

Our budget is low and I know that we will not be held to ransom by any player, but we have to pay the ‘going rate’ for players in the league we are in. I’m pretty sure this is exactly what we are doing but this does require that we continue to raise much needed funds.

By the way, you mentioned Eastwood as an example in your post. They had a striker last season costing just under £1,000 per week which is more than half our budget. The club’s bankrolled by benefactors can fall back down as quick as they go up! Gretna spring to mind!

Redarmy, if your attitude in your recent postings reflects your general demeanour then I suggest that the problem lies with you not with the committed Wittoners who fundraise for all our benefit in terms of furthering the progress of WAFC.
There is no pestering but it is necessary to ask and sometimes ask again. It is everyone’s right to politely refuse and this will always be accepted.
Part of Tracey’s success is the banter as she goes round and I would rather donate to my own club at away games.
My own take on Len’s posting was that of “there’s a finite number of tickets, if you’ve said you want one you’d better get one soon”.

Last season became ridiculous when the bucket for the grounds donations started appearing at AWAY games. Some cheeky cow called me tight for not putting in at Ashton when I had put in every other week at home!

Don;t you have a go at Tracey, Redarmy…she’s doing far more for the club than you are by staying away !!!

Have to agree, the bucket money raised by tracey is absolutely fantastic keep it up!

Its a family forum leave Tracy’s bucket out of it!

Redarmy doesn’t half sound like that Danny (I’m Witton no they got relegated so - I’m FC Utd now) who stirred it up with Eastwood and most opposition supporters last season before walking into the sunset!

I politely decline to contribute to certain things, and its never been a problem.

I do decide when I can afford it to contribute to other things - Dead simple!!!

As a solution to Len’s problem, why don’t those of us who’ve had a go and wish to, have another go on the 200 Club maybe in a different family members name or try and sell one to a colleague?

I’ll start the ball rolling, put me down for an extra one in Cameron’s name please Len.

And lets hope this thread becomes a very long one!

I already have three so put me down for another to make it a round figure Len please.
Witton is our club and our extended family.we will continue to make contribution in any form we are able to, either fiscally or by working around the stadium.
Ala Shanks,[with apologies] Witton isn’t every thing,it is the only thing.:-]
Long Live WITTON
WE LOVE YOU.X :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Do I really have to defend myself for not being at matches? I am in the 200 club, I have in the past donated £1 for every point the team won to the medical centre,( I did that for three seasons, good seasons) I gave £50 towards the purchase of a player and I own a few shares, as does one of my sons. I never say no when asked for donations when I am at a match but I’m not made of money, I wish I was because Witton would be high on the list of things I would support if I was. So please Red Army acknowledge that we can support our club in many ways, the best way I agree is to go to matches and I will when I can, but as I said before I do have many other interests.
WHS.

see a doctor danny about your problem, before its to late.
