This season I’m looking to freshen the programme up again and one suggestion was articles from you lot - the fans!
I’ll be looking for favourite memories/favourite players/funniest moments etc.
I’m going to produce a small questionnaire which I will hopefully be distributing at the Macc and Stalybridge friendlies and also post up on here for you to print/email to me.
If you would take the time to complete them for me I would really appreciate it. After all the programme is nothing without its contributors. It matters not if your memories are from last season, 1980 or whenever. The more diverse the better
My most unfavourite moment was when the coach driver took the wrong turn coming back from a midweek FA Trophy tie from Dagenham. I happened to notice we were on the M11 instead of the M1. We ended up in Kings Lynn and got home at 5am. I remember standing talking to the late Nonk and he was giving it loads with the old swearing. I remember I’d started at Littlewoods that week so it would be around 1979-80 so had to be in Liverpool for half eight that morning!!
My favourite moment with the club was my 1st game watching as an 8 year old against Wellington town at Central Ground. Len Stephenson scored the only goal in a 1 nil win for the Albion. This was the start of a 54 year watch of the albion which continues to this day!! Another nice moment was sat in the stand behind Sammy and Walter Powell who I didn’t know really. The old gentleman Sammy was playing hell about the albion who were actually beating Wrexham reserves 3 nil at half time. He said he was going into the dressing room at half time to play hell with the players obviously not happy with 3 nil up against a Wrexham team with lots of 1st teamers in!! Whatever he said worked as the Albion won 8 nil that day. It was 'nt till a few years later that I learnt the significance of the man called Sammy Powell a true legend and a big part of our clubs history.
I suppose really I got loads of favourite moments the recent events at Curzon are right up there in the top ten!! Just love are fabulous club long may we continue!!
Memories are great but isn’t wonderful that with this new team we have a great future too, maybe we should write about that too, comparing players of different eras etc.
