2nd New Signing

A little bit more info about the 2nd signing, as he was the striker who hit the shot that Greg Smith failed to hold on to, which resulted in their 2nd goal against us a couple of weeks ago. Looking on Leigh Genesis’s web site, Mark is/was their highest rated player so far this season. (click on graph next to their last game to see).

PROFILE
England Under-20 international Mark Smyth was released by Liverpool at the end of the 2004/05 season.
Smyth fulfilled a childhood ambition when he made his Liverpool debut in the Carling Cup quarter-final win at Tottenham in December 2004, and made a lively impact.
A product of the Academy and a lifelong red, he idolised Ian Rush when he was growing up and is hoping to follow in his hero’s footsteps by making it all the way to the Reds’ first team.

Left Bangor City to join Leigh RMI and link up again with former boss Steve Bleasdale in October 2007
Steve Bleasdale bolstered his Bangor City squad with the acquisition of former Liverpool trainee Mark Smyth in December 2006. Despite making the England Under 20 breakthrough in 2004/05, the midfielder was released by the Reds in May 2005 after failing to make the grade at Anfield.
Smyth had previously made his Reds debut during the Carling Cup quarter final triumph over Tottenham in December 2004, but failed to convince Rafa Benitez that he was good enough to play for Liverpool. He subsequently joined Accrington Stanley, but soon moved to Vauxhall Motors and he was lastly at Morecambe before Bleasdale snapped him up.
He made 15 League appearances for the Citizens and made a great impression with his speed and creativity. He scored four goals for Bangor in his first year and after a failed trial at Yeovil in the 2007/08 pre-season, Nev Powell was delighted to welcome him back to the Farrar Road ranks.

Sounds like a good player, hopefully he can get a couple of goals tomorrow.
