Read on the Unibond site that Ashton lost their appeal in the Marcus Hallows case;

This is a huge concern for non-league clubs, most of which live on a hand to mouth basis. One tackle could end up putting Ashton out of existence and whist I don’t hold a lot of love for the east Manchester outfit it would be horrible to see them wound up over such a matter.
By all accounts the Ashton player involved was not even booked for the tackle that caused the injuries to the player, yet still Ashton have lost their appeal against the verdict. When you think back to the tackle that involved Rob Hopley and Steve Hall at Colwyn Bay and the incident that Mike was involved in just a couple of months ago. In the case of both of these tackles neither appeared to have any intent on behalf of the player who caused the injury. To think that a club could go out of business as a result is very scary.
I would urge the club to have a good look at our insurance policies in light of this and think that the players should make a nominal contribution matched by the club, that ensures that they are personally covered and the club is covered from a liability point of view.
