Last Saturday’s Premier Division fixture between Worksop Town and Buxton at Sandy Lane, was held up for 25 minutes following a horrific injury to Buxton’s Steve Ridley.
The player was taken to hospital with a broken leg following a challenge with Tigers’ striker Andy White, and is expected to be sidelined for twelve months after surgery to repair the damage.
Following the incident, the referee’s decision was to send off BOTH players and produced the red card for Ridley as he left the field on a stretcher.
Worksop are appealing against White’s dismissal as they claim he got the ball and have video evidence to confirm it and claim that Ridley’s injury was caused by the way he landed.
Incidentally, the referee re-started the game by awarding a free kick in Worksop’s favour.
The referee in question? Mr McGrath from Hull.
