AFC Fylde

Be another tough test for us, heard of no new signings so maybe same 11 as saturday they can play better than that for sure so maybe chance to fight back - nothing to lose really nobody will expect us to beat Fylde on current form ! or maybe we will try our battling 4 5 1 formation again to try and pinch a result bringing back in olly james with powell and pushing on Sheeha, left back might be problem again with Glover and Connors both being injured recently ! any updates on injury front ? UTA

Really tough game but perhaps that’s exactly what we need. More concerned about the performance tonight than the result, and like Rooney says about United, the players need to show that they’re better than they looked at the weekend. For both teams, games don’t come much bigger/tougher.

Updates for exiles tonight?

Will try but if you are on twitter follow simmo

Albion have “new signing” from Trafford Alastair Brown (22 appearances, mostly as sub in 2006/07) in their starting line-up as well as Jonathan Breeze as the changes from Saturday’s opening X1

Cooper (GK), Brown, Harrison, Joseph, Moyo, Andrews, Sheehan, Powell, Breeze, Hancock and Luby.
in a 4-5-1 shape, with Powell, Breeze and Sheehan in the centre of the pitch. Chris Luby is a lone raider

Subs: Glover, Ashworth, Purcell, Thompson and Wilson.

Ollie James is still banned whilst Jon Dawson is unavailable.

33 mins having looked quite comfortable gone 0-1 down with Danny Lloyd scoring for the moneybags X1

H/t trail 1-0 ithe visitors have taken pretty much the only clear chance created so far.

have we had any chances ???

a double change - Matt Purcell and Neville Thompson replace Josh Hancock and Anthony Sheehan.

Only shot of note seems to be an effort from Michael Powell just into the second half that fizzed over after Ally Brown made ground down the left.

Andy Simpson’s summing up : Table-toppers did enough, but not much more. Hosts huffed and puffed.

Thanks to Andy & Jamie for the tweets

Just seen “Chad” score a 3rd goal for Spurs - That’s my boy

A much better showing that Saturday. Huffed and puffed is probably about right, 100% more effort than we saw at the weekend. Given the opposition, I think the performance mattered more than a result to some extent, and we got some effort tonight. Sadly, created next to nothing, and barely looked like scoring but a step in the right direction after the weekend. Lets hope we can keep it up on Saturday in a winnable game.

Agree the performance was a lot better but Fylde were average for a side that is topping the table. We looked more of a team just need some firepower that knows how to put the ball away now and we’ll come good. Some big games for us coming up, where we need to take some points (or ponies as Pritch called them in his notes tonight).

Fylde for me will grind out results and be up there come the end of the season but had nothing special. Brown had Barnes in his pocket all night.

Yes as said the effort last night was there for all to see, but we shouldn’t need to be even talking about players putting in effort that should just be a given! Don’t see how we would have scored if we played another 90 minutes a goalscorer is needed and quick.

Thought Cliff Moyo was outstanding last night MOM for me easily, looks a lot more comfortable at left back.

I agree with all comments so far. The back 4 were great, especially Ben and Cliff, who had his best game so far and he has been a real find for us. He’s no Matty Wood going forward but he is reliable and can tackle. Our returning full back was also super fit and had an impressive debut.

Unfortunately Powell left his passing boots at home and when he struggles, so does our whole midfield,. Can I also plead that we ditch this ‘one small guy up front’ tactic. You know why? because IT DOESN’T WORK. It didn’t work at Buxton, It didn’t work at FC United, or for the first hour last night and I could go on. It results in us giving possession back after pumping up high balls we can’t win, and it means that the front man is usually passing backwards and their midfield regroups. Despite us still not forcing their keeper to make a single save in the 2nd half, I still thought the momentum shifted when we brought on Kyle and Nev and a couple of through balls nearly resulted in chances from our shot-shy team.

All in all I was really encouraged by the effort and passion of the boys after a really bad run. This again pays tribute to the man management and coaching at our club.

A really good effort never going to win to be honest but deserved something against the top team so there is hope of points to come ! echoing what everyone else said we desperately need a quality striker or we will struggle to score - hopefully we now have an easier run of games and can pick some points up as well as some much needed confidence.UTA
