AFC Rushden and Diamonds vs Witton Albion

Witton make the long trip to Northamptonshire on Tuesday when take on AFC Rushden and Diamonds in an Evo-Stik Division One South fixture. The Diamonds were only formed in 2011, following the demise of the original Rushden & Diamonds club who were liquidated following financial difficulties. The present club were set up by supporters and from 2012 they have shared the home of neighbours Wellingborough Town but are to leave their home and re-locate back to Rushden for next season. Since the club was formed, they have not finished any lower than fifth in their respective league and are now pushing for the Play Offs despite losing their last two fixtures and being edged out temporarily perhaps at the present time. This will be the first ever meeting between the two clubs but Witton did face the original Rushden & Diamonds in an FA Trophy tie in 2006/07, when a goal from Lee Tomlin who is now playing in the football league, decided the game in Rushden’s favour at Wincham Park. Witton go into the game in very good form and sitting second behind leaders Shaw Lane but the month ahead is set to be a crucial time for the club with still fifteen league games to play and double-headers against at leat three of their main rivals for promotion. Their task at The Dog and Duck Stadium will be a difficult one but momentum is all important and they will be looking to continue their challenge. Kick off at The Dog and Duck Stadium is 7.45pm.
