Decent perfprmance, couple of great goals. One nil up at half time, Marine equalised but Witton then turned on the pressure, and a penalty from Mark Peers and a fine finish by Brodie to a lovely move finished the game off. Marine lost a defender to a second yellow later.
Wasn’t it Brodie who got the 3rd???
Solid enough performance tonight though. Played some good stuff and scored a couple of good goals. Back 4 didn’t seem too troubled until their player scored unmarked in the box!
Peers was quality and will destroy teams with more performances like that. Thought Alex Brown also played well
any one tell the gate
377 I think
brodie did get the 3rd
Thought we won far more convincingly than 3-1 would suggest. Apart from a spell of a few minutes in the second half, when they scored, we totally dominated the game. Should have had more goals, but never mind, save a few for Saturday!
gate was 377 we need to build on that
377 can and will be built on. It is a very positive first gate coupled with a good result which should help for the coming weeks.
There wasn’t many from Marine either… 20 at most
Other results…
Buxton 0 vs. Hednesford Town 2
Frickley Athletic 2 vs. North Ferriby United 2
Guiseley 2 vs. Ossett Town 0
Leek Town 1 vs. Ashton United 1
Matlock Town 2 vs. Lincoln United 1
Prescot Cables 2 vs. Kendal Town 1
Worksop Town 1 vs. Eastwood Town 2
So it’s not gone that badly for us this evening…
Awesome game enjoyed it from beginning to end…
Great team performance, Warlow unlucky not to get on the score sheet after a fantastic save from Marines’ keeper in first half.
Peers was outstanding and all the lads gave it 100%
Roll on Saturday well done lads!
Excellent performance, and a big relief after Saturday! thats how we can play and is what we were all expecting on Saturday, lets keep that up and the gates will also improve.
As noted above v v poor showing from Marine - if we can manage 70odd to Lincoln…thats v disappointing. also good to see a fair few kids there and many using their new passes I’m told from my turnstile source - performances like thatw ill have them coming back!
Roll on Saturday…
I would first like to say that witton performed extremely well barr the 10 mins after half time, which gratatued has to go to the management for the changes which worked well!
on to my main point, i think that officials get over looked when they perform well, and to much profile when idiots like mr styles at anfield perform, the referee apart from getting in the way a couple of times, which i add were not his fault was absolutely OUTSTANDING! he let the game flow and did not stop for pathetic acting, he let the dramatics go and pulled the game back after any fouls and booked accordingly.
100% referee would love to see more like you
Was really pleased with the way the team lifted themselves after dominating and then letting Marine equalise, one of my critisisms last year was that we tended to let our heads drop in similar situations but not tonight.
one compliment to make to the lads putting the programme together, well done the best for some time lots to read and good quality too, just one small grumble, it smells terrible!!! but a small price to pay I guess for the quality on offer.
Smells terrible ! Picko may I suggest a trip to the opticians if you have to get that close to read it.
Just like to say well done to the lads from afar Im in the Middle East at mo, so Im relying on texts /internet etc. Hoping to get linked up the NPL TV online. Will be back to see Albion end of next month tho, and by then we should be top !!!
Top performance, great football and excellent attitude from all the players after the (no) show at Lincoln. Thought Mark Peers and Alex Brown deserved a special mention but to be fair we were excellent all round the pitch.
Marine is usually a game that sets the benchmark for how we are going to fare during the season - on the basis of last night I think we have a lot to look forward to! As for Marine when they left the pitch they looked like a team that had been given the run around and been outclassed and they knew it!
[color=brown]A good all round performance. Thought two players stood out, Mark Peers and Liam Brownhill. Thought the first half was shaded by Witton, and atleast the scoreline suggested just so. We were a little slow out of the blocks in the second half, but fortunately we responded well to their equaliser. I appreciate that our task in the latter stages of the match were made easier by Marine being reduced to 10 men. On the subject of which, whilst his two yellows were merited I thought Marine’s number 6 actually up until his dismissal was playing pretty well, making life for the Witton midfielders difficult and did the ugly things well.
Any news on Liam’s injury?

Have to say i thoroughly enjoyed the game last night! I think the whole team performed well but the players that stuck out would definately be peersy rob lloyd (all over the pitch) and liam brownhill! I hope Liam is alrite after that appalling tackle on him i have to say i think liam was lucky not to be (hopefully) too badly injured! anyone any news on him? As was mentioned earlier thought the ref and the liners too had a great game last nite and i hope this year we have more like them! Well done boys lets keep this up for saturday! Come on Witton!
I spoke to Liam after the game and he had a problem with his calf. He said it wasn’t too bad, just sore.
From the Marine forum, always interesting to read a report from the other sides point of view, not that often they are so close.
Difficult to take much heart from tonight’s performance, although Witton as usual were a solid, well organised unit who played some nice sharp stuff going forward. It was fairly clear early on that there was only going to be one winner tonight, and we were grateful for a couple of fine saves from Andy Banks to keep us within touching distance at half-time.
We missed Darren going forward in the second half, having been replaced after taking a knock in the first. However,we did manage a period of pressure (albeit brief!) in which Kevin Towey created a sitter for Wacker to restore parity.
It looked at that stage as though we may go on to snatch an unlikely victory, but Witton went back on the offensive almost immediately, and were awarded a penalty which Peers duly converted. This seemed to extinguish any hope we had left, and they added a third soon afterwards. To compound our problems, Robbie Talbot pulled up with what looked like a hamstring problem, with Karl Brown and Darren already having been injured and replaced.
To top things off, Eddie (having already been booked) seemed to lose his head for a 10-15 minute period during the 2nd card, and predictably enough received his second yellow after scything down Witton’s winger near the touchline
