Champagne football.Harrogate were simply swept aside.
Alarmingly played against a crowd of less than three hundred people. The attendance was a huge insult to all behind the scenes at our club.
What do the red and white side of the town really want?
The dream team and all the backroom staff are in place, great result against Alty, quite simply it is just not good enough.
This is a bleak weekend in my eyes, two year deal shirt sponsor announced,a buzz around the place on a matchday and this is the best we can do,with all around us bursting their guts for our club.
The stayaways, read this and be ashamed,it does not cost much to turn up for the odd match, but you will be the first to complain when your club have to withdraw the fuses.
Saturday should have pulled a crowd of five hundred,i can shout from my soap-box,how many other ordinary Wittoners can?
Forgot to mention Sheehan’s great reverse pass to set up a first half goal.Ben and Paul were superb in the heart of our defence.Matt,Josh and Liam are growing game by game.
Ollie James watching from the touchlines,a true quality midfield player, the type of player we would all hate to play against, but still nobody can be bothered to come down and watch this team.
We have hit the buffers in the Holland/Kempes household,a true red line of Lostock/Ollershaw Lane.Penketh,Burtonwood albion stock, but this weekend we have genetically come to a halt,we have more than done our bit.
Our family will fight on,but even i have seen the writing on the wall half of the town cannot be bothered.
SKY have a lot to answer for.In the end the TV coverage will kill more and more little clubs, many people cannot see why they should go out to watch a minor league match when they can sit in the warm and watch several major games on TV. What can be done about it? I am at a loss to make any suggestions. OhI know SKY don’t cover games at 3-00pm on a Saturday but ESPN do and if you have watched 4 or 5 games in the week and two on a Sunday you’ve pobably “overdodsed” on football by Saturday afternoon, wives and girlfriends will only put up with so much. See you on Tuesday. (If you’re not watching a game on TV)
WHS.
its not just sky, kids and young men would rather sit in all day playing PC games and either play simulation football or manage a team on a computer ? all witton can do is keep improving get into a higher league and manage within budget - things will change but might take a while - V**s are the same top of the league above us and have crap gates albeit it is a rotten club with poor morals and a half finished white elephant of a stadium with no atmosphere - who would follow them ?
I’m surprised at the negativity regarding gates. Hasn’t it always been the case? Certainly back to my first games at the Central Ground in the 60s. Be interesting to see if Chad could give us a season by season breakdown on average attendances?
Whilst I agree with the comments regarding Sky, don’t dismiss the standard of opposition we face. With no disrespect to my neighbours up here at Harrogate Railway and the likes of the two Ossett’s, they are not going to entice many floating neutrals along to watch at the H4H. They certainly don’t, to a large degree, bring even say 20-30 souls along also. (That will certainly change Saturday! Hope we’ve got plenty of pies in!)
I think everyone should keep their heads up and keep battling to preserve OUR club. A promotion to a higher league and better class of opposition will, I’m sure, bring it’s rewards.
I can accept that people have stopped coming and therefore found other activities to fill their Saturdays.
What confuses me is where 100 Witton fans have gone since August?
We have a better team on the pitch, the football gets better week on week, we are sat 3rd in the league, have made history in the FA Cup in beating a team 2 steps higher than us away from home, and have just won 7 games on the spin.
We couldn’t say that back in August, yet more people seemed to think that we were worth watching? And that can’t be attributed to the opposition either.
Aye and if the wretched horse don’t wanna go, it won’t flippin go!
Yes we’re on a great run, playing some super football, absolutely stunning result at Alty, the dream team at the helm…but if only that number chose to come then thats it (500 would be wildly optimistic at this level!) You cannot force them to come and the negativity of moaning about the crowd is hardly encouraging them to either.
I brought a neutral along to Alty and am trying to bring some more on Saturday, COME ON THE ALBIOOOOON!!
